MULTIPLE INTELLIGENCES PROFILES: STUDENTS VERSUS TEACHERS
The educational popularity of multiple intelligence (MI) theory is related to the basic needs of teachers as they try to create teaching instruction that is both affective and effective. It is essential to promote understanding and appreciation among students and create classrooms, which help foster learners‘ self-esteem and self-motivation. The application of MI theory allows to meeting the needs of different types of learners. Teachers, who understand and use basics of MI theory, can apply human diversity for better teaching. The respondents in this study are students, who study English at Klaipėda University, and their teachers. The findings have been obtained from the online survey completed by the students and the teachers. It contains 56 statements on a 5-point Likert’s scale ranging from (1) to (5). Having completed the survey, respondents received online assessment of their intelligences. The responses of both samples have been compared and processed by a means of the Software Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). Pearson’s Correlation Coefficients rho demonstrate strong relationships between the profiles of both samples: their magnitudes are close to 1 and the Significance levels Sig p correspond to probabilities of either 99% or 95%. The obtained data can be extended beyond the researched samples despite their small size. KEY WORDS: multiple intelligences, profiles, assessment of learning strengths, overlapping of scores. Globalisation brought into the classroom – reflections from the local context in social work and nursing education
In increasingly globalised societies higher education meet challenge to integrate the international and intercultural dimensions into their services, strategic plans, education programmes and research. There were few discussions around the concept of “Internationalization at home” (IaH) during the last years in the academic community. This article generally outlines a process of IaH in higher education, by giving examples from the bachelor programmes of Social Work and Nursing Education at Malmö University, Sweden. The internationalisation of the curriculum at home was shown to have a much greater impact than individual mobility alone. The authors of the article present their own analysis about possibilities to understand the culture, profession in the process of IaH improving professional and intercultural competences. Modern society poses a challenge for professionals – to think globally and to act locally.KEYWORDS: higher education, internationalization at home (IaH) social work, nursing, intercultural competences, global, glocal.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.15181/tbb.v74i2.136
VYRŲ BENAMYSTĖ NAKVYNĖS NAMUOSE IR GATVĖJE: IŠGYVENIMO NARATYVAI
This article analyzes the survival strategies of homeless men in the night shelters and in the street. Homeless people face social and economic lack of resources and because of that, their daily life is related with hope to meet their minimal needs: to find the shelter and food, to protect themselves from the cold and violence. The article presents empirical study the goal of which was to find out how the homeless people construct their hope to survive the homelessness on the streets and shelters. The results of the research show that homeless men use these survival strategies: in order to get food they go to the charity canteens, get food from their friends, try to buy food with their minimal incomes or beg in the streets. In order to protect themselves from the violence homeless men try to be open-eyed at any time of the day, take the role of “conflict fighter” or try to be brave and proud when there is a threat to their health. Trying to protect themselves from the cold homeless people look for the relevant things and find remote places to hide from wind and cold.KEY WORDS: homelessness, survival strategies, reasons of homelessness, narration.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.15181/tbb.v73i1.127
HAIR, BONE PLATES AND COPROLITES: ANCIENT DNA RESEARCH ON RARE ARCHAEOLOGICAL MATERIALS
The article describes the possibilities and limitations of ancient DNA research on organic materials that are usually not the focus of archaeogenetics, because of their low preservation potential and thus rareness in archaeological settings. These are remains from fish and birds, animal hairs, and coprolites. Several of the author’s own key studies from different regions and time periods are presented.Key words: ancient DNA, archaeozoology, animal hairs, fishbone, Acipenser, Pelecanus, coprolites, paleofaeces.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.15181/ab.v23i0.129
THE PHILOSOPHY OF BODY: INTERSUBJECTIVITY AND TEMPORALITY
On the basis of Merleau-Ponty’s philosophy of body, the article analyses the intersubjective life-world and the time experienced by a body. The consciousness and duality of a body are revealed: a body simultaneously experiences the other and itself. The article discusses a unity of a physical body and an incarnate consciousness, which reveals itself in certain lifelike situation at each point in time, a sensual perception of which each time provides new knowledge and further opens up the world. The article shows that Merleau-Ponty brought a revolution of sensual perception in philosophy. He revealed that sensual perception consisted of various processes of consciousness associated with memory, imagination, feelings and other areas. It is assumed that the reason of the origin of time is the interaction of a subject with things. Analysis of time is a possibility to access to a concrete structure of subjectivity that represents a subject. Time has a transitional nature of movement through the difference between the past and the future in the present.
