References to the First World War in Lithuanian Memoirs and Publications during the Interwar Period: ‘And Lithuania moaned under the iron fist of the invaders’
Get PDFPersonal testimonies of the Great War, revealed in memoirs, diaries and publications byLithuanians, have already been used by historians seeking clarification of the reflection of themilitary experience in Lithuania. This article shows that a significant part of these testimoniesappeared in the interwar period due to the intentional collection and publication of materialon military history, and their publication was often not random, but also had a political aspect.Moreover, the article complements earlier knowledge of the fact that the Great War was referredto not only when mentioning the German occupation. The many references to the GreatWar in the writings of Lithuanian intellectuals, and in the writings and speeches of politiciansin the interwar period, had much more varied reasons.KEY WORDS: First World War, German occupation, military history, war experiences, memories,publications

Get PDFThis article emphasizes the line of the Christian moral attitude in accordance with didactically significant and attractive insights of the writer Jonas Juškaitis, by positioning the Christian moral attitude and its presentation. The way of religious self-consciousness of the writer is discussed. Some of his ideas, associated with the possibilities of developing a Christian attitude, are revealed, taking into account a popular narrow approach to the human being, to the overall development of the personality, and higher education. The type of the research is theoretical descriptive. The main research methods are analysis, interpretation and synthesis. The methodological principles of the research are: neotomism, which is the basis for the development of the moral attitude of the individual, i.e. the system of his/her moral experiences, aspirations and behavior; and the system of universal education that does not allow to deny personal value and dignity, bases the complex development of the personality and helps to abandon a narrow technocratic approach to the essence and purpose of human existence.KEY WORDS: Christian moral attitude, writer, experience, didactical paradigm

Get PDFThis paper presents development of school buildings influenced by certain principles of educational paradigm and new educational ideas. The research is interdisciplinary, as it questions how physical education environment complies with the concept of education. Importance of study, which involves analysis of the educational nature and the architectural space is evident not only in Lithuania but also in the whole world at the moment of change of the educational nature, when the existing buildings are renewed according to the changed needs, and new educational architectural objects are built rarely. This article covers a review of period until the year 1940 of Lithuanian schools architecture and educational provisions in a wider context, necessary for further studies to find out whether the changing educational tasks and teaching methods have changed the school buildings.KEY WORDS: school buildings, education, architecture, education paradigm

Get PDFThe article analyses axiological and hodegetic ideas by M. Pečkauskaitė-Šatrijos Ragana. Aspects of neotomistic ethics in the writer’s attitude towards human virtuousness and preparation for eschatological fulfilment are highlighted. Cultivation of virtues is revealed as an essential prerequisite to faith. Virtuousness reveals to people horizons of freeing truth and a possibility to overstep human imperfection. Love is actualised in this context as a fundamental value with eschatological continuity and remaining in the hope and perspective of divine eternity. An important role in M. Pečkauskaitė’s pedagogical concept is assigned to personal self-reflection enabling self-knowledge and an adequate evaluation of one’s actions and spiritual culture. Get PDF“Today Christ calls us to agree with Him and follow Him on the path which transforms all our existence” (Pope Francis). The first transformation takes place through Baptism. Baptism pardons all our sins both original and personal. However, forgiveness of the original sin remains a controversial truth of faith. Pope Benedict XVI said that “original sin is usually hard to understand” and therefore talking about original sin is a way to say that salvation is primarily universal and not individual. In order to more fully understand what happens at Baptism, this article overviews Biblical aspects of the original sin, development of the doctrine of the original sin in the history of the Church and consequences of the primordial sin. DOMESTIC VIOLANCE AGAINST WOMEN: DISCOURSE OF REALITY
Get PDFThe article deals with the problem of domestic violence against women and assesses the expression of this phenomenon in the context of a society approach. The statistical construct of this phenomenon confirms the assumption that the establishment of legal fundamentals for protection against violence is linked to a process of changing the society approach to this issue. The analysis of theoretical and legal discourse of domestic violence reveals that the consistent implementation of the strategy of legal protection of victims against domestic violence has enabled the creation of a specialized comprehensive assistance infrastructure system throughout the country, which provides access to appropriate medical, psychological, legal assistance and at the same time entitles the society to develop prevention programmes that help to establish intolerance towards violence. The Republic of Lithuania Law on Protection against Domestic Violence (2011) has laid strong foundations for the establishment of specialized assistance centres and implies the development of necessary infrastructure.KEYWORDS: violence against women, Republic of Lithuania Law on Protection against Domestic Violence, specialized assistance centre
