SIGNIFICANCE OF CHILDREN’S HEALTH-RELATED QUALITY OF LIFE INDICATORS FOR FAMILY-FOCUSED PUBLIC HEALTH PRACTICE

    No full text
Recently, health-related quality of life has become one of the main underlying assumptions for public health practice, especially for gaining insights into highly complex health problems that are mainly determined by social factors. Children’s health is highly determined by social factors, especially those in the family environment. We follow a newly emerging trend to investigate health-related quality of life within a family-centered social system instead of individualistic approach; therefore, we chose KIDSCREEN52 questionnaire. We consider KIDSCREEN52 questionnaire significant for public health practice.KEYWORDS: children, health-related quality of life, self-perceived health, family, public health.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.15181/tbb.v85i2.218

PAID LEAVE POLICIES AND PARENTAL LEAVE CHOICES IN LITHUANIA

    No full text
This paper focuses on paid leave policies and parents parental leave choices in Lithuania. Lithuanian paid parental leave system provides one of the longest leaves in Europe, with high replacement rates, but there is a lack of more flexible working arrangements for working parents. For an empirical analysis an administrative data of SODRA (State Social Insurance Fund Board), which includes information of all benefits recipients was used. SODRA data allowed to disclose the gender differences in the parent’s parental leave choices by gender (2011–2018). This period has been chosen because Lithuania in 2011 introduced new paid leave policy regulation, when two parental leave options were offered for parents: 100% of net earnings until the child is 12 months or 70% of net earnings until the child is 12 months, and 40% net earnings until the child is 24 months. The SODRA data had shown that although the share of fathers who take paid parental leave had increased since 2011 but in comparison to women it constituted only about 24% of all f paid parental benefits recipients.  Considerably larger part of the fathers is choosing to receive the parental leave benefits the second year while they are eligible to work and benefit is not reduced.KEY WORDS: paid parental leave schemes, paid parental leave choices among parents, gender differences.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.15181/tbb.v85i2.218

ŽALIOJI PASAULĖŽIŪRA IR APLINKOSAUGINĖS ŽMOGAUS TEISĖS KAIP SOCIALINIO DARBO GALIMYBĖS KURTI TVARIĄ APLINKĄ

    No full text

KRIEVU KALNS HILL-FORT: NEW DATA ON THE LATE BRONZE AGE AND PRE-ROMAN IRON AGE IN WESTERN LATVIA

The article examines the results of the 2012 and 2013 archaeological excavations of Skrundas Krievu kalns hill-fort, situated in western Latvia. Krievu kalns was listed as a site in the 1920s, but it was not regarded as a hill-fort. During a site inspection, striated pottery was discovered, and this indicated that it might be numbered as a Late Bronze Age and Pre-Roman Iron Age habitation. Excavations revealed the site to be a hill-fort that was fortified in the 11th to the ninth century BC with a palisade made of vertical timbers. In the eighth to the fiftth century BC, the defences were moved outwards, thus enlarging the living area. There was possibly even later a third fence. Krievu kalns may be classed as a Late Bronze Age hill-fort with striated pottery, reflecting the characteristic Bronze Age cultural traditions of western Latvia.Key words: Krievu kalns, hill-fort, buildings, finds, Late Bronze Age, Pre-Roman Iron Age.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.15181/ab.v26i0.202

REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT: THE IMPORTANCE OF THE INVOLVEMENT OF INHABITANTS AND INNOVATIVE APPROACHES IN MANAGEMENT

Innovation and an innovative approach in management, education and leadership have been changing over decades, according to the dynamic world we are living in. Changes start at an individual level, with the personality, and only those who have changed themselves can start to lead others towards global change.  The Latvian National Development Plan defined aspects of polycentric development for all the regions of Latvia. Each region has resources, strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats, but human resources are the most important resource for change, creative ideas and sustainable development. The education system changes very slowly, from lecture learning to a more inclusive ‘learning by doing’ approach. This approach has been used in northern countries for a while, but Latvia has just now started to implement the approach. The term ‘innovation’ today is wider than product, process, service or organisational innovation. At a national and regional level of development, it is crucial to encourage inhabitants of the region to stay in or return to rural areas, and create knowledge and enterprises in the region and their home town. The aim of the paper is to evaluate the involvement of residents in management activities and regional development processes, and their willingness to participate in the creation of knowledge and innovative entrepreneurship and co-creation. The paper is a review of literature on theoretical aspects of the creation of innovation in the region in a combination of survey analyses of residents. The methodological approach is based on two steps: a review of research literature, and an analysis of the results of a survey of residents of the region of their willingness to be involved in processes and tasks for regional development, and some aspects of analysis of entrepreneur opinion about innovative solutions in their companies. The article consists of four main parts: 1) the theoretical findings of a systemic approach to innovation and development; 2) the role of the innovation process in development from different perspectives; 3) an analysis of a survey of the region’s residents about their willingness to be involved in processes of regional development; 4) aspects of innovation used in regional entrepreneurship. The significance of the paper is to define aspects of regional development relating to innovation and co-creation.KEY WORDS: innovation, regional development, knowledge, involvement.JEL CODES: R10; M10; M11DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.15181/rfds.v30i1.203
