The Perception and Life Experience of Pulmonary Tuberculosis Patients during Treatments in Jakarta, Indonesia: A Qualitative Study
Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious respiratory disease and still remains a significant health problem in Indonesia. Combating TB is paramount as the drop out and relapse of patients are still high. Generally, there are two types of TB patients, which are: TB patient category I and category II. Someone who never suffered and very first had TB treatment is the characteristic of type 1 whereas relapsed or have second (or several) times of treatment are the characteristic of category II. The aim of this study is to explore the experience of tuberculosis patients who had relapsed; TB patient category II. This research was conducted in Jakarta, Indonesia for seven months (March – October, 2014). The qualitative method with phenomenological approach was conducted in this study. Ten participants, with relapse case that are usually visiting the outpatient of pulmonology department in a respiratory hospital in Jakarta were selected using the purposive sampling and interviewed using semi- structured questions. The data were analysed using conventional content analysis and has been saturated. This study found four themes: the perception of tuberculosis, the impact of tuberculosis on patients, the challenge of TB patients during their treatment and the support from family. These results of this study can be used as the information for the healthcare professional, especially community nurse, to improve TB program such as, increasing health education program, so that the incidence of the relapse in TB patients can be reduced
Impact of Randomness on a Game Bot Workings within a Real-time Strategy Game Engine Spring
From the artificial intelligence perspective the bot is an autonomous agent that makes intelligent decisions. In real-time strategy games bots are sometimes referred to as generals or even computer operated fictitious opponents of the human player. Bots have to deal with imperfect game information, the complexities of hundreds of variables and they must strive to perform as humans would. The complexity of developing a game bot is even greater because the game engine's operation includes randomness. This can be a very difficult challenge for bot developers to crack, as the algorithms behind game bots are often programmed with the presumption that the game engine environment information output is deterministic. In this article, we have analysed what kind of impact game engine randomness has on a game bot’s gameplay. In order to do so, we constructed experiments for measuring the random effects that a Spring game’s engine has on a game bot whilst the bot is conducting unit movement scenarios and simple battle tactics
A Position Paper on Managing Youth Screen Time versus Physical Activity
Childhood obesity is becoming increasingly prolific and problematic. Contributors to childhood obesity include decreased levels of physical activity and increased sedentary behavior. Screen-based entertainment may be an important factor in the development of childhood obesity as children and adolescents prefer to spend time using electronic devices than exercising. While it is difficult to encourage children to cease playing video games, it is possible to change these passive screens to active ones. Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) have been utilized by academics and researchers to promote levels of physical activity among young people. This paper is part of our continuous research into the use of technology in the facilitation and motivation of children to be more physically active. This paper presents the “MySteps†framework that has been developed to manage youth screen time and exercise performance statistics. By developing technology-based solutions, we intend to increase children and adolescents awareness of their levels of physical activity and screen time. Consequently, self-monitoring and management of screen time and physical activity levels may lead to more active living beginning at an early age and continuing throughout life
An Efficient DNA Molecule Clustering using GCC Algorithm
Researchers in the biotechnology field have accomplished many achievements in the past century. They can now measure expression levels for thousands of genes, testing different conditions over varying periods of time. The analysis of the measurement results is essential to understand gene patterns and extract information about their functions and their biological roles. This paper describes a novel approach for clustering large-scale next-generation sequences (NGS). It also facilitates the process of predicting patterns and the likelihood of mutations based on a semi-supervised clustering technique. The process is based on the previously developed construction of FuzzyFind Dictionary utilizing the Golay Code for error correction. The introduced method is exceptional; it has linear time complexity with one passage through the file
Improving Knowledge and Behavior of Children in Dental Care based on Lasallian Health Education
Dental caries is a major dental health problem and often occurs in school-age children 6-12 years as well as children. The objective of this study was to determine the effectiveness of Health Education by using a model of Lasallian education to increase knowledge and behavior dental care of children. The design of this study was True experiment. The independent variable is Lasallian health education and the dependent variable is the knowledge and behavior of children. There are 56 respondents were recruited in this study. Respondents were divided into two groups: the experimental group and the control group consist of 28 people for each group. Data collected by using a questionnaire. Data was analyzed using the Wilcoxon test and Mann Whitney. The results showed there is no significant difference in knowledge and behavior of dental care before and after treatment. At the Mann Whitney test for knowledge, pre-test phase P = 0.654> 0.05 and a post-test 0.00 0.05 and a post-test 0.00 <0.05 means that the pre-test there were no differences in behavior between the experimental group and control group in post-test have behavioral differences between the experimental group and control group. Based on the results can be concluded that health education of Lasallian effectively improve the knowledge and behavior of dental treatment of children aged 6-12 years in Public Elementary School Tanamon District of Sinonsayang
The Impact of Obesity on Physiologic Indicators
Obesity results in an alteration in the stress response that often results in adverse perinatal outcomes. This study investigated physiologic changes in 21 obese and 20 overweight women during pregnancy and the impact on vagal response (heart period and respiratory sinus arrhythmia), oxygenation, hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) and systolic blood pressure at 20, 28 and 36 weeks of gestation. The impact of obesity on perinatal outcomes was investigated. Blood oxygen, systolic blood pressure, and HbA1c levels were significantly higher for the obese women as compared with overweight women. Monitoring physiologic mal-adaptation may permit early detection and intervention to improve perinatal outcomes
Rural Adolescents’ Perspectives on Contextual Influences of Sexual Risk Behavior
Persistent health disparities in HIV on racial and ethnic minorities are evident in recent national reports of HIV rates. Furthermore, high rates of other sexually transmitted infections among minority adolescents point to the need for risk reduction interventions. Research in disproportionately affected rural communities in the Southern United States suggests that sexual risk reduction interventions targeting these communities should address contextual factors that perpetuate health disparities. In this article, we report findings on a formative study that was conducted to identify rural adolescent perspectives on sociocontextual influences on sexual risk behaviors. Thirty eight rural adolescents ages 12-16 participated in initial and follow-up focus group sessions that were segmented by age group (12-14, 14-16) and gender (male, female). A comprehensive theoretical model addressing the complex interplay of multi-level factors associated with risk behavior guided the study. Qualitative content analyses were used to analyze transcribed audiotapes of focus group sessions and observation notes. Emergent themes supported the theoretical model and revealed modifiable contextual and decision-making factors; and related consequences that can be used in risk reduction interventions. Collaborating with target population provided relevant input for a user-centric approach to intervention development aimed at reducing sexual risk behaviors
Realizing Cultural Component of Worldviews in Languages (Russian and English)
The paper considers the interrelation of culture, worldview and language. The cultural differences are acknowledged from the philosophic point of view and determine/are determined by the worldview. The worldview differences predispose the Russian and English national characters and are reflected in the languages: lexis, grammar and speech practices. Vocabulary as the most vulnerable aspect of language registers the changes first. On the basis of the author’s classification of new vocabulary concepts some changes in the Russian worldview and language are treated as a result of the English culture and language influence
Moodle: Ten Years On
As Moodle (and similar online teaching tools) move into their second decade, it is important to learn how they have caught on among teachers and students. This research attempts to answer the question: Do students and teachers use Moodle to the maximum? A two-part questionnaire was designed to probe student and teacher use of Moodle. Results show that neither students nor teachers take full advantage of what Moodle has to offer
An Analysis of Students’ Perspectives on the Usage of Knowledge Maps in Open Learning Environments
Open learning is a new form of online learning that allows learning materials and courses to be freely available on the Internet and accessible to anyone who is interested. Massive Open Online Courses is the term used for courses provided in these open environments. The authors believe that open learning environments are still in their early stages of evolution in terms of providing effective learning models with many aspects still needing to be considered. These aspects can be addressed with consideration to principles of cognitive science and herein lies our research. Based on the concept of schema theory, the knowledge map has been chosen to organize and present learning concepts. This paper presents a study that has been held to evaluate the use of knowledge maps as an approach to presenting and organizing learning materials in open learning environments. A prototype has been developed and piloted on a group of IT students. The students’ perspectives on the use of the knowledge maps and how they affect their learning have been collected through two surveys. The result is promising and an indication of the likely success of such an approach
