Beyond the railing of Paulo de Frontin Viaduct
In recent years we have observed a process of change inthe concept of urban mobility. Today there is a greaterappreciation of the journeys on foot or by bicycle, and a biggerconcern of the need for investments to improve publictransportation as well.This is one reason why some cities in the world are rethinkingthe use of public space and trying to give back to the populationareas that have been degraded and abandoned by thegovernment, considering demolishing some viaducts. Thus, it canbe said that the demolition of the Perimetral Viaduct, in the PortZone of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), has been a milestone in thehistory of national urbanism.So it is possible to assume that, depending on the resultsachieved in the aforementioned area, other parts of the city thathave the same characteristics and that have been affected by theconstruction of a viaduct can also be included in a range of issuesand, therefore, call for studies and urban interventions.Therefore, this study aimed to investigate what makes a goodor a poor neighborhood to its residents, ie, check whether thepresence or absence of a viaduct is key to measure the quality ofthe urban space by its immediate vicinity.As a case study we opted for the Paulo de Frontin Viaduct,located in the neighborhood of Rio Comprido, in the city of Riode Janeiro.Methodologically, this research has parts of theoretical nature,where it sought to analyze the origin of the urban chaos and thehistory of the neighborhood concerned, and a part that focusesprimarily on the results of interviews with residents and formerresidents of Rio Comprido.The conclusion is that the presence or absence of a viaduct isless relevant for the quality of the space than it is supposed, and aviaduct is not decisive in itself to determine either depreciation ordegradation of an existing neighborhood, but it may be deemedan aggravating factor. This observation further reinforces theimportance of popular participation in city decisions, since theyare the real users
Procedural Modeling of a Residential Site Using the Interoperability between the GIS and CityEngine An Adaptation of the Radburn Type Cul-de-sac Roadsystem and Housing
The main objective of this study is to observe the procedural modeling technique run by the CG Architecture design rules. Also, the interoperability of the design data between the CityEngine and GIS databases are to be tested for an efficient manipulation of the 2D land information and the 3D building information. The study uses the Korean National Geographic Information System databases as well as aerial image data from the National Geographic Information Institute. The study also takes Samsong area in Goyang City, Korea, as its study area. In addition, the field survey photographs of Radburn neighborhood, New Jersey, in the US are also presented to render the target site planning prototype

Literature review of mental health recovery in Indonesia
Background: The recovery process for mental healthpatients in Indonesia is still not optimal. This is evident from thehigh recurrence rate of patients with mental disorders. Thisarticle describes how literature views the recovery process ofmental health patients in Indonesia. The purpose of this article isto illustrate the recovery process of patients with mentaldisorders through literature searches on publications on thephenomenon of recovery in Indonesia. Review: Literaturesearches were conducted through Google Scholar, BMC,Springerlink, Science Direct, Scopus, Proquest and the Cochranelibrary. A key word that was used in English was recovery, whichis “pemulihan†in Indonesian. The literature search wasundertaken up until August 2015 and retrieved 66 articlesconsisting of 60 research articles and 6 non research articles. Outof these 66 articles, two were in duplicate. 42 of the remaining 64articles were excluded thus 22 articles in total were reviewed.There were two articles from a patient’s perspective in theresearch focused on the recovery process of patients with mentaldisorders. Other research focused on information pertaining tothe recovery process. Results: Only one of the articles portrayedthe stages of the recovery process in Indonesia. There are threestages to the recovery process for patients in Indonesia, whichconsist of the first stage: Arising, gaining insight, the secondstage: Effort, struggling to archive recovery, and the third stage:Harmony, harmonious integration with the community. Theother 21 articles were on part of the recovery phase, however themajority of them supported research on the first and secondstages of the recovery process and the third stage, theharmonious integration with the community has not had muchattention or focus in research. Conclusion: Research needs toaddress the recovery of patients with mental disorders inIndonesia, particularly pertaining to community integration
Analysis on Using Synthesized Singing Techniques in Assistive Interfaces for Visually Impaired to Study Music
Tactile and auditory senses are the basic types of methods that visually impaired people sense the world. Their interaction with assistive technologies also focuses mainly on tactile and auditory interfaces. This research paper discuss about the validity of using most appropriate singing synthesizing techniques as a mediator in assistive technologies specifically built to address their music learning needs engaged with music scores and lyrics. Music scores with notations and lyrics are considered as the main mediators in musical communication channel which lies between a composer and a performer. Visually impaired music lovers have less opportunity to access this main mediator since most of them are in visual format. If we consider a music score, the vocal performer’s melody is married to all the pleasant sound producible in the form of singing. Singing best fits for a format in temporal domain compared to a tactile format in spatial domain. Therefore, conversion of existing visual format to a singing output will be the most appropriate nonlossy transition as proved by the initial research on adaptive music score trainer for visually impaired [1]. In order to extend the paths of this initial research, this study seek on existing singing synthesizing techniques and researches on auditory interfaces
Sign Language Translation Approach to Sinhalese Language
Sign language is used for communication between deafpersons while Sinhalese language is used by normal hearingpersons whose first language is Sinhalese in Sri Lanka. Thisresearch focuses on an approach for a real-time translation fromSri Lankan sign language to Sinhalese language which willbridge the communication gap between deaf and ordinarycommunities. This study further focuses on a novel methodologyof enabling distance communication between deaf and ordinarypersons. Once the sign based gestures captured by depth sensingcamera, series of feature extraction techniques will be used toidentify essential attributes in gesture frame. Identified featureframe will be compared with pre-trained gesture dictionarybased on classification techniques, in order to identify gesturebased word. Detected word will be displayed for ordinary user orcould be used for communication between two individuals in twodifferent geographic locations. Proposed prototype has providedan overall recognition rate of 94.2% for a dictionary of fifteensigns in Sri Lankan sign language
Future of Tele-echocardiography
Telemedicine is defined as the ‘delivery of health care and sharing of medical knowledge over a distance using telecommunication systems’. Echocardiography is often used to diagnose and exclude important cardiac diagnoses in adults and children. Evolving telemedicine technology has boosted access to echocardiography and has created a network that offers many possibilities for clinical, research and teaching activities.The two primary modes of telemedicine practise are ‘ store and forward’ and ‘real time’ videoconferencing. Using these technologies, relevant, up-to-date scientific information is instantly available for analysis and interaction. Studies have also shown these to be accurate, cost effective, improves patient care, enhances echocardiography quality and sonographer proficiency and promotes practice expansion.The growing use of technology such as smart phones, laptops and computer tablets as well as newer technologies like cloud computing, picture archiving computer systems(PACS) and the standardization of medical images(DICOM) has fuelled the now accelerating specific demands for tele-echocardiography. However, all these are not without challenges and obstacles. Some of these include lack of standardization of telemedicine components, confusing medico-legal and licensure issues, privacy/confidentiality, poor reimbursement, training issues as well as attitude and acceptance.These issues need to be addressed by all those involved in medical practice. Clinicians must work with sonographers, medical IT experts, hospital management and hospital physicists as well as manufacturers and insurance companies to ensure that the new system is integrated as an extra function within ultrasound consoles. National and international societies such as the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) and the American College of Cardiology (ACC) could play a role in bringing everyone together and define the necessary training programmes. Exploring the transcriptomic data of the Australian paralysis tick, Ixodes holocyclus
Ixodes holocyclus is the paralysis tick commonly found in Australia. I. holocyclus does not cause paralysis in the primary host – bandicoots, but markedly affects secondary hosts such as companion animals, livestock and humans. Holocyclotoxins are the neurotoxin molecules in I. holocyclus responsible for paralysis symptoms. There is a limited understanding of holocyclotoxins due to the difficulties in purifying and expressing these toxins in vitro. Next-generation sequencing technologies were utilised for the first time to generate transcriptome data from two cDNA samples –salivary glands samples collected from female adult ticks engorged on paralysed companion animals and on bandicoots. Contigencoded proteins in each library were annotated according to their best BLAST match against several databases and functionally assigned into six protein categories: housekeeping, transposable elements, pathogen-related, hypothetical, secreted and novel. The “secreted protein†category is comprised of ten protein families: enzymes, protease inhibitors, antigens, mucins, immunity-related, lipocalins, glycinerich, putative secreted, salivary and toxin-like. Comparisons of contig representation between the two libraries reveal the differential expression of tick proteins collected from different hosts. AN ASSESSMENT OF THE APPLICATION AND THE CORPORATE FAILURE PREDICTIVE VALUE OF ALTMAN’S ZSCORE MODEL IN ZIMBABWE
This research focuses on testing corporate failure predictivevalue of Altman’s Z-score model on Zimbabwe’s financialinstitutions in order to establish whether the model canaccurately predict risk of failure for these financial institutionsand the extent to which the model is being employed by theinstitutions for failure prediction particularly after Zimbabwefaced unique economic conditions. A case study approach withten selected financial institutions was used. The research foundout that the Z-Score model can accurately predict risk of failurewithin two years with higher accuracy one year prior to failureand that financial institutions were not employing the model infailure prediction. The study concluded that the Z-score model isan effective tool for failure management and was thereforerecommended
