    Get PDF
Anchored on Teresa Amabile’s componential theoryof creativity, the organizational creativity model wasinvestigated. The primary goal was to investigate theinterrelationship of variables in the organizational creativitymodel such as domain-relevant skills, creative-relevant skills, intrinsic task motivation, work environment, and organizationalcreativity using 133 respondents from micro, small and mediumscalerestaurants inside and outside the National Capital Region(NCR) in the Philippines. Results of the partial least squaresstructuralequation modeling revealed that only creative-relevantskills and work environment predicts significantly organizationalcreativity, while work environment significantly affects creativerelevantskills, intrinsic task motivation, and domain-relevantskills. Implications for work environments, as in the case ofMicro, Small and Medium-Scale Enterprises (MSMEs) anddirections for future research are provided

    Get PDF
A “reverse merger†(RM) has become a populartransaction that allows a private company to take over a publiclytraded firm and obtain their exchange listing. RMs havesignificantly outnumbered IPOs as a mechanism for going publicin the U.S. since 2002. Moreover, foreign firms entering the U.S.have accounted for over 40% of RMs taking place on U.S.exchanges from 2008 - 2013, as compared to approximately 10%of all cross-listings and 7% of all IPOs during the same period.Chinese firms have been participants in 63% of all foreign RMssince 2008. This study is the first to focus on foreign and domesticRM’s use of PIPEs (Private Investment in Public Equity). Whencompared to RMs transacted between two U.S. firms, this analysisfinds Chinese firms who engage in RMs through the use of PIPES(traditional and structured), on average, 1) raise over 400% moreinitial investment, 2) experience higher post-merger marketcapitalization valuations at closing and post-merger, 3) take placeon higher level U.S. stock exchanges, 4) have a higher rate ofsurvival (influenced by sector) and 5) experience significantlybetter short and long-term buy and hold returns

This study focuses on the fact of the relationshipbetween Human Resources Management Practices andOrganizational Performance which have been the center ofattraction for many researches and studies. The effect of humanresource management practices positively on employee outcomesand then on organizational performance is the engine oforganizations to sustain the competitive advantage, and themanagement of this worthy resource can lead to success.objectives: The main objective of this study is: To assess theeffect of human resources management practices on theorganizational performance of small businesses throughexamining the causal order of the main variables (HumanResources Management, Employee Outcomes, andOrganizational Performance) in an attempt to unfold the socalled“Black Box†to clarify the ambiguous relationship betweenhuman resources management practices and organizationalperformance. To achieve this objective, a quantitative researchstudy was conducted on a sample consisting of 265 Malaysiasmall businesses working in manufacturing sector. Structuralequation modeling with Amos 20 was used as an advancedquantitative measure beside other statistical measures in order toattain the prior objectives. Results: The main findings of thestudy were; the existence of a significant relationship betweenhuman resources management practices as one “bundle†andorganizational performance, and significant relationshipsbetween the component of employee outcomes and both humanresources management practices and organizationalperformance. Conclusion: the human resources managementcould be one of the most significant strategies to achieve thecompetitive advantage

Text classification is a very important area ininformation retrieval. Text classificationtechniques used to classify documents into a setof predefined categories. There are severaltechniques and methods used to classify data andin fact there are many researches talks aboutEnglish text classification. Unfortunately, fewresearches talks about Arabic text classification. This paper talks about three well-knowntechniques used to classify data. These threewell-known techniques are applied on Arabicdata set. A comparative study is made betweenthese three techniques. Also this study used fixednumber of documents for all categories ofdocuments in training and testing phase. Theresult shows that the Support Vector machinegives the best results

Personal flexibility as a key component of competence of employees in non-traditional forms of employment

    Get PDF
This Many theoreticians and practitioners areinspired by the current situation on the labour market and, inparticular, flexibility of employment as an a-typical form toanalyse broadly understood theme of flexibility. Requirements ofthis non-traditional form of making a living make an employeeacquire a permanent capacity to adjust to multifaceted changesof irregular frequency. This relatively permanent tendency maybe the result of a longer exercise, be formed due to regularlyrepeating operations or be intrinsic capacity manifested in ameta-ability responsible for optimal for an individual use ofpsycho-social domains due to a situational context (which is acognitive, emotional and behavioural potential). In the first case, we are dealing with a cognitive habitperforming an economic function, liberating the mind fromcontrolling operations resulting from cognitive schemes that canbe automated. However, excessive leaning toward habits leads toimpoverishment of cognitive processes, automation of performedactions, mental laziness and emotional depletion. This effect isshown in a later section describing the area of flexibility qualifiedas pathological (cf. Dobrowolska, 2011, 2012, 2014).The article presents the results of research on a sample of n=2118flexible employees, using a tool devised by the author of the paper- Personal Flexibility Auto-perception Tool

Systematic training of chess has beenshown to significantly increase the IQ and cognitivefunctioning among children. The study assessed theimpact of chess intervention on the IQ scores ofchildren and analyzed the cognitive functions thatcontributed to the IQ gain. Eighty-six schoolchildren, boys and girls in the age group (4-15)undergoing chess training were assessed using Binet-Kamat Test of Intelligence. Chess interventionconsisted of standardized bi-weekly training sessions of 2hours’ duration over a period of one year.Individual attention was given to every child byassigning one coach for every 4 students. Paired ttests and regression analysis were carried out.Significant increases were observed inIQ.Regression analysis indicated that non-verbalreasoning, language and memory significantlycontributed to the dependent variable IQ. The study hasimportant implications for education

Exploring the Transcriptomic Data of the Australian Paralysis Tick, Ixodes Holocyclus

    Get PDF
Ixodes holocyclus is the paralysis tickcommonly found in Australia. I. holocyclus does notcause paralysis in the primary host – bandicoots, butmarkedly affects secondary hosts such as companionanimals, livestock and humans. Holocyclotoxins are theneurotoxin molecules in I. holocyclus responsible forparalysis symptoms. There is a limited understanding ofholocyclotoxins due to the difficulties in purifying andexpressing these toxins in vitro. Next-generationsequencing technologies were utilised for the first time togenerate transcriptome data from two cDNA samples –salivary glands samples collected from female adult ticksengorged on paralysed companion animals and onbandicoots. Contig-encoded proteins in each librarywere annotated according to their best BLAST matchagainst several databases and functionally assigned intosix protein categories: housekeeping, transposableelements, pathogen-related, hypothetical, secreted andnovel. The “secreted protein†category is comprised often protein families: enzymes, protease inhibitors, antigens, mucins, immunity-related, lipocalins, glycinerich, putative secreted, salivary and toxin-like.Comparisons of contig representation between the twolibraries reveal the differential expression of tickproteins collected from different hosts. This studyprovides a preliminary description of the I. holocyclustick salivary gland transcriptome

The study is using literature review and conducted selected social interviews in 2013-2015. Cultural understanding and urban problems of multiethnic neighborhoods in Seoul is a complex issue that needs to be further analyzed from both local and foreign residents’ perspectives. The study is important as it critically addresses challengeable issues for the urban cities culture in South Korea in recent history

Transit Oriented Development Strategies in Indian cities

    No full text
Urbanization is one of the major phenomenon in the current urban scenario. It has been estimated that by 2030 around 400 square kilometers of land would be consumed for urban area and it is expected that in the next 20 years urban population will be doubled due to massive spatial and economic change in developing countries. Many developed countries like UK, USA have adopted transit oriented strategies that focus on catalyzing development along transit oriented corridors. On an ongoing basis, the strategies have been presented for augmenting development and transit ridership. There have been adverse effects of urbanization on development in many countries. In India, mass urbanization, is leading to severe environmental and economic problems such as urban poverty, congestion, pollution, degradation of quality of life etc. Hence, a sustainable approach is required to attend to these problems and ensure a positive growth for the cities. In Indian cities, rapid transit is a comparatively new phenomenon. Hence, the current strategies being introduced include densifying the development along the transit corridors, boosting compact development, discouraging private ridership, improving paratransit modes to enhance transit accessibility and ridership. A transit-oriented development (TOD) is thus an approach integrating land use and transit systems to maximize access to public transport and solve other glitches. Transit oriented development embraces compact mixed use design that provide proper accessibility to transit and non-motorized transportation and encourages transit ridership. It aims at integrating infrastructure, transport and land use with urban design to increase positive growth in the city
