    No full text
This study empirically examines whether advertising message appeals used in Army recruitment (i.e., patriotic appeal, financial appeal, and adventure appeal) could influence college students’ attitudes toward the advertising. In responding to this advertising, we particularly questioned whether the current generation’s tendency toward materialism (i.e., the concentration on their personal happiness and physical achievement) might vary their perceptions of advertising effectiveness. The results showed that participants (N= 399) evaluated thefinancial compensations appeals advertising as more preferable than other appeals, regardless of their level of materialism. The practical implications and study limitations are discussed

    No full text
Designers influence construction ergonomicsdirectly and indirectly. The direct influence is because of design, details and method of fixing, and depending upon the type ofprocurement system, supervisory and administrativeinterventions. The indirect influence is because of the type ofprocurement system used, pre-qualification, project duration, partnering and the facilitating of pre-planning. The purpose ofthe paper is to determine architectural technologists’ perceptionsand practices relative to construction ergonomics.A survey of the related literature was undertaken and anempirical study was conducted among members of the SouthAfrican Institute of Architectural Technologists (SAIAT) using aself-administered questionnaire. The following constitute the salient findings. Cost, quality, and time are more important to architectural technologists thanconstruction ergonomics and project health and safety (H&S).Ergonomics during the use phase is more important toarchitectural practices than the other phases. A range of designrelated aspects impact on construction ergonomics. To a degree, construction ergonomics is considered / referred to on mostdesign, procurement and construction occasions by architecturaltechnologists. Experience predominates in terms of howergonomics knowledge was acquired. A range of aspects have thepotential to contribute to an improvement in knowledge and theapplication of construction ergonomics. The paper concludes that architectural designers contributeto construction ergonomics, but there is potential for and a clearneed for enhanced contributions.Recommendations include the inclusion of constructionergonomics in tertiary architectural technologist education, related continuing professional development (CPD) and practicenotes, and ergonomics regulations

The purpose of this descriptive correlation study is to describe the level of perceived benefits and the level of perceived barriers to treatment adherence and the level of treatment adherence, and to examine the relationship between these variables and level of treatment adherence among Indonesian older adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. This study is important for health care providers and no one has reported a study done on this population.  Purposive sampling technique was used to recruit study participants among members of PERSADIA (Indonesian Diabetes Association) in Bandar Lampung city, Indonesia.  There were 164 participants that met the inclusion criteria, and the study had 100% response rate.   Each consenting participant was asked to fill in the demographic and health information form and a scaled questionnaire on perceived benefits to treatment adherence, perceived barriers to treatment adherence for treatment adherence, and treatment adherence. Three experts on diabetes validated the instruments and Cronbach’s alpha of the reliability test was high. The data analysis used descriptive statistics and Pearson’s correlation test.  The findings show that the level of perceived benefits to treatment adherence was high, perceived barriers to treatment adherence was low, and level of treatment adherence moderate. There is a significant positive correlation between perceived benefits to treatment adherence and level of treatment adherence and a significant negative correlation between perceived barriers to treatment adherence and perceived benefits to treatment adherence and level of treatment adherence.  The positive perception of treatment adherence among Indonesian older adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus is attributable in part to the supportive roles of the health care providers and the family members of the study participants

While pain is the main reason for patients to visit ahospital’s emergency department (ED), it is a hardly exploredphenomenon in this context. Moreover, while effective painmanagement is the most important dimension of patientsatisfaction in EDs, there is a lack of studies in Central Europewhich could be used for optimizing the deficient painmanagement in these units. This study will clarify whether theimplementation of an interdisciplinary structured pain managementimproves the care of patients in the emergency room andwhether its use improves patient satisfaction. Additionally, itinvestigates whether the implementation of such a structuredpain management system will also bring advantages for the workof personnel employed in the emergency room. To this end, amultimethod approach was chosen, in which both the patientstreated in the emergency room and the staff working there wereinterviewed by a written survey during a two-week examinationperiod before and after the implementation. Included were allpatients of the somatic departments who met the ethical criteria,as well as all doctors and nurses. Data analysis and processingwas carried out using Microsoft Excel. It was found that the useof a structured pain management system leads to better, moreeffective pain treatment of the patients in the emergencydepartment and increases their overall satisfaction with theirtreatment. Furthermore, it is easy to use by the staff and reducestheir workload so that they have more time to spend on patient care

Evaluate Using Social Media at Al Salt Greater Municipality in Expanding Public Participation in Urban Plans

    No full text
social hub media websites such as Face book, Instgram and Twitter. These websites were originally informal virtual places for friends to connect, but have gradually become used as tools for businesses, and more significantly, government to connect with citizens. Public participation is a form of civic duty that is required in all stages of planning. But fewer people in Jordan are taking part in the public participation process, and there is a trend towards an older group (over 40) of residents that come to such meetings or workshops. Moreover, Plans, such as Specific Plans or General Plans in Jordan often take years to implement and require all generations to give feedback on what is needed for the future. This study investigates the relationship between public participation and the rise of social hub media as a tool for engagement, demonstrating how Jordanian cities use Face book. This research suggests that social hub media provides a two-way form of communication between the community and the local government, which aids in promoting authentic participation. Additionally, social media allows for efficient outreach and noticing of meetings or public workshops. As opposed to newspaper or website noticing, websites such as Face book allow local governments to target a specific audience by location, age, or interests. Findings indicate that although many cities developed a Face book Page to engage the “younger generationâ€, they attract all ages to become fans. Additionally, the findings show that the true potential of Face book as a participatory tool has not been discovered. Cities are developing their own ways of using it as a tool as there is no formal best practices manual for City planning departments. The findings of this study have provided the necessary information to develop a best practice manual for planning practitioners to utilize. The manual provides information on developing a Face book Page as well as the implications of the technology
