Multi-disciplinary design projects in the graduating year of undergraduate study are one of the most challenging tasks for both students and faculties. The faculties need to define and organize projects that are suitable for all students from all different disciplinary. In our context, the students come from different disciplines, namely Product Design (PD), System Design (SD), Information Science Design (ISD), and Architectural Design (AD), which are the most diversify group of students. The students from different discipline must have a mutual understanding of the project execution, set the right expectation and exercise proper project management skill. This work summarized the guidelines for the multi-disciplinary design project management bases on the instructor’s and student’s perspectives

Illness Perception Among Patients With Hypertension in Nepal

Illness perception among hypertensive patients influences their coping behavior. The aim of the study was to assess illness perception among patients with hypertensive in Nepal. A descriptive cross-sectional study design was employed. We recruited 85 patients with hypertension registered at the out- patient department of Sahid Gangalal National Heart Centre, Nepal and collected data using the Extended Brief Illness Perception Questionnaire. Hypertensive patients had a moderate threatening view about their illness. Patients represented hypertension as a long-lasting illness that can be controlled with treatment. Patients believed hypertension might have serious consequences associated with heart attack, brain hemorrhage, paralysis of body and death. The overriding causes of hypertension as perceived by patients were unhealthy diet and stress. Patients favored taking medicines than lifestyle modifications for controlling their blood pressure. These illness perceptions of patients were influenced by the experiences and information inherent in Nepalese culture. Assessing illness perception helps to understand hypertensive patients’ implicit views regarding their illness and contributes to their better management. The findings can be used as baseline information to understand illness perception among patients with hypertension in Nepalese community and further develop an intervention

Erbil is the capital city of Kurdistan Province whichhas experienced recently an expansive urban development andsudden population growth due to the mass movement of thedisplaced people from the nearby troubled zones and ruralemigration. In this paper, A face to face data were collected for 72questions, informative results have been tabulated in charts andtables. The acquired results were reached to depict the energyusage, the recycling, monthly expenditures, transportations, food, electricity and water consumptions, energy for cooking, allocatedlandscape, heating sources, lighting and their responses toalternative energy usage. Different models for measuringsustainability have been adopted to measure the degree ofsustainability in terms of CO2 emission, and carbon footprint formany residences. An overall measured carbon footprint for Erbilcity is almost double the world average and of Iraq. On the otherhand, the CO2 emission is almost double of Iraq and the world. The contributions of items that led to this increase are categorizedin tables and charts. Those results can be used as guide lines forlimiting the lifestyles in Erbil city. Conclusive remarks and futuresuggestions have been drawn accordingly to achieve sustainableguidelines to be implemented in future by the local authorities andplanners

The Twist: Innovative Architectural and Structural Integrated High Rise Building Design

    No full text
When city’s become more dense, the need for high rise buildings increases. However, implementation of high rise buildings in a crowded city is difficult on street level. Common high rise designs have a discrete transition between public and private area, subsequently losing interaction with the city. In this research a new high rise building concept has been developed. An integrated design approach combining architectural and structural solutions has been used. The final design consists of three slender buildings with public space between them combined through a diagrid structure. This diagrid structure ensures the lateral stiffness of the buildings. This innovative high rise building concept is a new possibility to implement high rise in a city that combines all important design criteria

Application of the Sono-Fenton and Ozonation Processes in the Degradation of Tetracycline

    No full text
Tetracycline antibiotics are among the largest groupsof pharmaceutical compounds extensively used in human andveterinary medicine to treat and prevent bacterial infections. Inthis study, the sono-Fenton process and ozonation were used todegrade tetracycline, and the effects of various operationalparameters on tetracycline degradation and its change of toxicitywere investigated. The experimental results indicate that theeffect of the initial pH level of tetracycline degradation wasinsignificant from pH 3 to pH 6, but it became increasinglyimportant as the pH became greater than 7. Increasing theultrasonic power slightly increased the degradation efficiency oftetracycline, suggesting that hydroxyl radicals greatly influencethe oxidation of tetracycline. Additionally, the effects of air oroxygen aeration with different flows and reaction temperatureswere insignificant. The addition of anions to the reaction solutioninhibited the degradation and mineralization of tetracycline from90% to 31.5% and from 30% to 7.7%, respectively.Furthermore, ozonation elicited superior efficiency intetracycline degradation, where the optimal reaction conditionswere found at pH 3, 0.2 L O3/min and 25oC with almost 100%tetracycline degradation and 34% mineralization. The toxicity oftetracycline was significantly decreased because ofmineralization, where the cell viability increased to 89% and70% from less than 50% of the original tetracycline solution

Cebu’s Subnational Politics: A Survey of Philippine Political Structure and Culture

The paper is a survey of the Filipino Nation’s effort towards nation building. It highlights the socio-historical unfolding of the nationhood of the country -- Philippines. The paper answers the basic question on what paved the way to the formation of the Filipino Nation and why it remains to be a neo-colonial outpost to the US even in the 20th century. It also provides reasons on how and why Filipinos had shaped the kind of institutions that operate the present state as it is now. Using Comparative Historical Analysis (CHA), the paper elaborately accounts on what turning points served as the watersheds of nationhood to Philippine political history. Likewise it employs historical institutionalism as well as the new institutional economics. It emphasizes on property rights, transaction costs, modes of governance, social norms, ideological values, enforcement mechanisms, and others that paved way to what Philippine politics and governance came to be as it is historically traced to its present formation. The study engages scenarios on what it had been in the past and what it might be in the years to come given the path that it has tread from colonial times to to its neo-colonial position at present

Power and the Medium Munich as a Paradigm for an Analysis of Current Power Structures?

The question is, how far in the context of printing there may still happen presence-phenomena taking back the human body? Bavarian printing seems to make it possible, to give an answer. Therefore theoretical explanations on the value of re-updating and re-personalising as the basic techniques as well as re-presence as the basic intention of media-communicated political behaviour aiming at power or its retention are important. The given model itself is fruitful for processes and shifts of current politics. The 16thand the 21st century may be reasonably compared to each other, as both then and now radical changes of the media (human body or physical communication and printing on the one hand, printing and the new media on the other hand) can be observed as the communications-theoretical signature of the time. The claim of media then and now is to generate re-presence of the human body, which has consequences on the power and its production
