    The left-liberal skew of Western media

    We gathered survey data on journalists’ political views in 17 Western countries. We then matched these data to outcomes from national elections, and constructed metrics of journalists’ relative preference for different political parties. Compared to the general population of voters, journalists prefer parties that have more left-wing positions overall (r’s -.47 to -.53, depending on the metric used), and that are associated with certain ideologies, namely environmentalism, feminism, social liberalism, socialism, and support for the European Union. We used Bayesian model averaging to assess the validity of the predictors in multivariate models. We found that, of the ideology tags in our dataset, ‘conservative’ (negative), ‘nationalist’ (negative) and ‘green’ (positive) were the most consistent predictors with nontrivial effect sizes. We also computed estimates of the skew of journalists' political views in different countries. Overall, our results indicate that the Western media has a left-liberal skew

    Relationship between Sexual Fantasy, Sexual Communication, Personality Traits and Sexual Satisfaction in Married Individuals

    The study aimed to understand the relationship between sexual fantasy, sexual communication, personality traits and sexual satisfaction in married individuals. Sexual fantasy as a variable has seldom been studied in the Indian context. The importance of sexual fantasies has been noted by therapists and researchers. Studying various aspects of sexual functioning in married life including, sexual communication and sexual satisfaction and personality traits would be beneficial. A cross sectional design with a total sample of 100 married individuals was considered. Tools were administered as online forms. Parametric and Non-parametric tests were used to find the correlation between Sexual fantasy and sexual satisfaction, sexual communication and sexual satisfaction and personality traits and sexual satisfaction. Results indicated that sexual fantasy and sexual satisfaction have a negative correlation, sexual communication and sexual satisfaction have a positive correlation and personality traits and sexual satisfaction also have a positive correlation. This study can be used to develop modules that might aid in marital and sex therapy.     Effect of Varying Aerosol Concentrations and Relative Humidity on Visibility and Particle Size Distribution in Urban Atmosphere

    Atmospheric aerosol concentrations have been found to change constantly due to the influence of source, winds and human activities over short time periods. This has proved to be a constraint to the study of varied aerosol concentrations in urban atmosphere alongside changing relative humidity and how it affects visibility and aerosol particle size distribution. In this research simulation was carried out using Optical Properties of Aerosols and Clouds (OPAC 4.0) average concentration setup for relative humidity (RH) 0-99% at visible wavelength 0.4-0.8 μm to vary the concentrations of three aerosol components: WASO (Water-soluble), INSO (Insoluble) and SOOT. The Angstrom exponents (α), the curvatures (α2) and atmospheric turbidities (β) were obtained from the regression analysis of Kaufman’s first and second order polynomial equations for visibility. The research determined the mean exponent of the aerosol size growth curve (µ) from the effective hygroscopic growth (geff) and the humidification factors (γ) from visibility enhancement f (RH, λ). The mean exponent of aerosol size distributions (υ) was determined from µ and γ. The results showed that with varied WASO, INSO and SOOT concentrations respectively at different RH, aerosol particle size distributions showed bimodal characteristics with dominance of fine mode particles.     GIS & Remote Sensing Based Morphometric Parameters and Topographic Changes of the Lower Orashi River in Niger Delta

    In watershed hydrology, the morphometric features of a river basin are vital to examine the lower Orashi River basin morphological and hydrological aspects, as well as its flood potential, based on their morphometric characteristics using remotely sensed SRTM data that was analyzed with ArcGIS software. The areal, linear, and relief aspects of the Orashi River basin were examined as morphometric parameters. The lower Orashi river basin, according to the findings, has a total size of 625.61 km2 and a perimeter of 307.98 km, with a 5th order river network based on Strahler categorization and a dendritic drainage pattern. Because of low drainage density, the drainage texture is very fine, the relief is low, and the slope is very low. Bifurcation ratio, circularity ratio, drainage density aspect ratio, form factor, and stream frequency values indicate that the basin is less elongated and would produce surface runoff for a longer period, while topographic changes show that the river is decreasing with depth in the land area at about the same elevation as a result of sand deposited due to lack of maintenance by dredging, which implies that the basin is morphometrically elevated and sensitive to erosion and flooding. To understand geohydrological features and to plan and manage watersheds, morphometric analysis based on geographic information systems and remote sensing techniques is beneficial

    Orange Peel Extract Mediated Silver Nanofluid as Corrosion Inhibitor for X80 Steel in Simulated Oilfield Scale Dissolver

    Silver nanofluid was prepared by bio-reduction reaction between orange peels extracts (OPE) and silver nitrate and characterized by spectroscopic and microscopic techniques. Colloidal nanoparticles of sizes between 40 – 50 nm and spherical shape were obtained. The nanofluid was applied as anticorrosion additive to inhibit corrosion of X80 steel in simulated oilfield scale dissolver solution (1.0 M HCl) at various temperatures. The nanofluid (OPE-AgNPs) was 98.9 % and 84.3 % efficient at 30 ºC and 60 oC respectively as determined by weight loss measurement. In comparison with OPE, OPE-AgNPs shows better corrosion inhibition and higher resistance to thermal degradation. Some kinetic and thermodynamic models were used to characterize the inhibition process. OPE-AgNPs could be optimized and used as alternative anticorrosion additive for scale dissolution liquor in the industry

    Effect of Aging on Solar Reflectance of White Cool Roof Coatings: Natural Weathering and the Influence on Building Energy Needs for Different Climate Conditions in Brazil

    The use of cool materials on the building envelope is one of the most cost-effective ways to increase indoor thermal comfort conditions in hot climates and decrease the cooling energy needs. Despite the benefit of reducing cooling loads, researches have demonstrated that aging of roof coatings changes the initial solar reflectance (SR), which influences the long term building thermal and energy performance. Thus, this work presents preliminary natural weathering tests performed on samples of nine white coatings exposed to natural weathering for one year in the city of Sao Carlos, Brazil. Solar reflectances were measured with a spectrophotometer before and after exposure, every 3 months, for identifying the effect of aging along the time. The findings showed changes of 13% to 23% on SR after one year of natural weathering, with higher decrease on SR for rougher surfaces. The cleaning process restored from 90% to 100% of the original SR, which means maintenance can be an effective solution to restore the initial SR. Simulations indicated that roofs with higher solar reflectance increase indoor thermal comfort conditions and decrease the cooling energy need for buildings in hot climates, but the aging of white coatings increased the cooling energy needs along the tim

    Web Application Authentication Using Visual Cryptography and Cued Clicked Point Recall-based Graphical Password

    Alphanumerical usernames and passwords are the most used computer authentication technique. This approach has been found to have a number of disadvantages. Users, for example, frequently choose passwords that are simple to guess. On the other side, if a password is difficult to guess, it is also difficult to remember. Graphical passwords have been proposed in the literature as a potential alternative to alphanumerical passwords, based on the fact that people remember pictures better than text. Existing graphical passwords, on the other hand, are vulnerable to a shoulder surfing assault. To address this shoulder surfing vulnerability, this study proposes an authentication system for web-applications based on visual cryptography and cued click point recall-based graphical password. The efficiency of the proposed system was validated using unit, system and usability testing measures. The results of the system and unit testing showed that the proposed system accomplished its objectives and requirements.     Quick Quantum Circuit Simulation

    Quick Quantum Circuit Simulation (QQCS) is a software system for computing the result of a quantum circuit using a notation that derives directly from the circuit, expressed in a single input line. Quantum circuits begin with an initial quantum state of one or more qubits, which are the quantum analog to classical bits. The initial state is modified by a sequence of quantum gates, quantum machine language instructions, to get the final state. Measurements are made of the final state and displayed as a classical binary result. Measurements are postponed to the end of the circuit because a quantum state collapses when measured and produces probabilistic results, a consequence of quantum uncertainty. A circuit may be run many times on a quantum computer to refine the probabilistic result. Mathematically, quantum states are 2n -dimensional vectors over the complex number field, where n is the number of qubits. A gate is a 2n ×2n unitary matrix of complex values. Matrix multiplication models the application of a gate to a quantum state. QQCS is a mathematical rendering of each step of a quantum algorithm represented as a circuit, and as such, can present a trace of the quantum state of the circuit after each gate, compute gate equivalents for each circuit step, and perform measurements at any point in the circuit without state collapse. Output displays are in vector coefficients or Dirac bra-ket notation. It is an easy-to-use educational tool for students new to quantum computing

    The atmosphere of planet plays a great role in numerous weather phenomena which affects our life directly. To understand these phenomena, it requires knowledge about the relation between temperature and humidity.The effects of temperature on humidity influence the potential for precipitation. It also directly influences the human health and well-being. Relative humidity and dew point are the two parameters that are used by the meteorologists for understanding the interaction between temperature and humidity. Therefore there is a necessary of a smart monitoring system which is fully automated, accurate and capable enough to monitor all the parameters with accuracy. Besides, it should be portable and less expensive. For this purpose, the digital portable wireless temperature and humidity monitoring device is designed. This project consists of HC-05 Bluetooth module, DHT-11, Arduino UNO, 16 X 2 LCD, and smartphone. The data are recorded at different part of Kathmandu Valley with this device wirelessly by using smartphone and analyze it with the help of Origin software.

    Hourly Rounding and Fall Prevention among the Elderly in Long Term Care: A change Process

    Long term care facilities have a rising rate of falls and fall related injuries with increasing cost and more hospitalization. Hourly rounding® is an evidenced based intervention that is proactive for nursing staff to be able to identify patient’s needs. This helps with positive fall prevention outcome. This project focused on process improvement efforts for 10 weeks and examining the education and implementation of an evidenced-based hourly rounding program that assisted in reducing the number of falls in the pilot unit. The implementation of the intervention took place in a long-term care facility located in Dallas, Georgia. The hourly rounding tools used in this project were the Studer Group hourly rounding log and competency checklist with permission. Twenty staff members were included in the sample, age 18 years and 60 years. The unit has 41 residents who were included in the pilot case study design. Staff members were first educated regarding hourly rounding and documentation on the hourly rounding log was done two days before implementation and the pre and post fall rate was retrieved from the facilities fall database. Competency checklist was completed prior to implementation and post implementation to evaluate staff understanding of the main tenets of the 4 P’s (potty, pain, possession, and position). For this project, descriptive statistics was used to help determine fall rates. Minitab was used to analyzed data and to determine if it was clinically significant. In the ten weeks following the hourly rounding implementation, participants performed hourly rounding by incorporating it to each resident’s daily routine and documented their rounds on the log sheet. The results indicated that it is statistically significant and with a P-values = -<0.0001 and t-value = -5.81
