Analysis of Chinese Citizens’ Perception and Its Differences of City Spirit: A Case Study of Hefei City
City spirit is the soul of the city. The spread of city spirit not only could establish a civilized specimen for citizens, but also create a good cultural atmosphere for the city. Hefei residents’ perception of city spirit is extensive, and most of Hefei citizens consider the expression words of city spirit are very appropriate, which is enlightened, open-minded, actual and innovate. Great majority of Hefei citizens willing to support the propaganda and promotion of the city spirit, and they think the promotion of the city spirit plays a key role in the way of city’s development. In addition, significant differences in the perception of urban spirituality emerge among residents with different economic and social characteristics. There are four aspects about how to enhance the public perception of city spirit, which including increasing dissemination channels and means, strengthening guidance according to the difference of residents, encouraging participation of community residents, and building good atmosphere depending on the city’s advantages
Spatial Accessibility of Bakeries and Supermarkets in Belo Horizonte, Brazil
The recent events and constant global changes show the importance of rethinking city planning. In this context, the 15-Minute City concept got important as it brings people closer to activities and services, through short trips by active modes, being the key to a sustainable city. Based on this concept, this paper analysed the spatial accessibility of residents of Belo Horizonte (Brazil) to two establishments essential to the quality of life: bakeries and supermarkets. The analyses were made through the influence areas, spatial clusters, and the Local Indicators of Spatial Association. The results showed that bakeries are more accessible than supermarkets, which are not accessible to the entire population, especially in low-density and low-income regions. In addition, areas with potential for new projects were identified by the relationship between existing facilities (supermarkets or bakeries) and population density/income. Finally, the results highlight the challenges for developing sustainable cities considering the 15-Minute City concept throughout the territory of Belo Horizonte
Forage Monitoring and Prediction Model for Early Warning Application over the East of Africa Region
Rangelands dominate arid and semi-arid lands of the Greater Horn of Africa (GHA) region, whereby pastoralism being the primary source of livelihood. The pastoral livelihood is affected by the seasonal variability of pasture and water resources. This research sought to design a grid-based forage monitoring and prediction model for the cross-border areas of the GHA region. A technique known as Geographically Weighted Regression was used in developing the model with monthly rainfall, temperature, soil moisture, and the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI). Rainfall and soil moisture had a high correlation with NDVI, and thus formed the model development parameters. The model performed well in predicting the available forage biomass at each grid-cell with March- May and October-December seasons depicting a similar pattern but with a different magnitude in ton/ha. The output is critical for actionable early warning over the GHA region’s rangeland areas. It is expected that this mode can be used operationally for forage monitoring and prediction over the eastern Africa region and further guide the regional, national, sub- national actors and policymakers on issuing advisories before the season
Inviting Nature into Academic Learning: Exploring the Possibility to Activate the Introvert Courts inside the University Buildings
Established on peripheral sub-urban area of Sylhet city, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology is a public university well known for its beautiful natural environment and diversified landscape with green hillocks, waterscape, forests and biodiversity. But, the academic buildings of the campus were planned in an introvert way that the common void courts remain disconnected from the outside natural environment. Although designed with positive intention, most of the courts remain unused maximum the time of a year. As the campus natural environment is getting richer day by day and users prefer to spend more time in outside environment, it is high time to integrate nature into the academic learning. This research aims to explore the possibilities of these void courts to be incorporated with the outside natural environment to enhance joyful learning. A combined approach was adopted as research methodology consists of intensive physical survey, literature study, microclimate analysis, questioner surveys among the users, interviewing the field experts and selective national and international case studies. Lastly, a set recommendation has been proposed considering all the perspectives and issues that the research has identified
Discussion on the Challenges Surrounding Anti-microbial Resistance, Using Relevant Case-study Examples
The advent of antimicrobial drugs has made a huge contribution to human society, but their commodity nature has given rise to behaviors such as abuse and overuse, leading to the emergence of resistance to antimicrobial drugs and other hazards. Nowadays, the structure of interests formed by various stakeholders in the market circulation of antimicrobial agents has become unbalanced, and government intervention as a breakthrough still faces many challenges. This paper discusses the AMR challenges of government intervention under the interest structure in the context of case studies in the Global North and the Global South areas from the point of view of human health in terms of stagnant R & D processes for novel antimicrobial drugs, a profit-oriented neoliberal atmosphere that mismatches production trends of antimicrobial drugs with market demand, the prevalence of private institutions lacking effective regulation, incomplete government interventions, and the difficulty of pursuing the WHO strategic plan on antimicrobial resistance, etc
On the Context Vein of “Competence” and Its Generating Mechanism-Based on the Perspective of Situational Learning Theory
“Key competence” has become a hot vocabulary in educational reform in recent years. However, the essential connotation and specific generation mechanism of “competence” as its basic concept are still far from clear, and often controversial due to vague expressions. The rise of the concept of “key competence undoubtedly originated in the West, but in the context of Chinese, its meaning has changed significantly.By analyzing the origin and evolution of the concept of “competence” in the Western social context and the concept from “quality to“competence”in the Chinese social context, we can deeply understand the essence of the concept of “competence”and further clarify the specific generation mechanism of “competence” and its relationship with education. Analyzing the formation of competence based on situational learning theory emphasizes the occurrence of competence through participation in situational activities, the development of learning courses and identity consultation, which can provide some inspiration for the formation of competence
Analysis of the Relations between Highway Geometric Design and Traffic Safety in Bangladesh, China, and America
Transportation plays a critical role in the economic sector in Bangladesh. Since its independence, infrastructure has been developing rapidly, including land, water, and air transportation. National economy is increasing at a relatively high rate, leading to the better-off of people’s lives. As the living standards keep improving, people are more concerned about safety issues in transportation. This article makes an analysis of the status quo of traffic safety in Bangladesh and compares the Bangladeshi code with American code AASHTO from the geometric aspects of horizontal and vertical alignment, in an eff ort to provide reference to the highway design in Bangladesh. Through a reasonable design, the traffi c safety will be under control and accident rate as well as economic loss will be minimized
Low Intensity Microwave Fields and Radiation and Their Interaction with the Human Body
Sources of low-intensity microwave signals formation, which affect the metabolism processes when they interact with human body, are considered in the article. It’s noticed that increasing intensity level of the technogenic signals in environment significantly exceeds natural electromagnetic fields and radiation (EMR). The peculiarities of the registration and measurement of low-intensity signals parameters of the microwave range are considered. The processes of the interaction of the microwave signals and human organism are analyzed. Formation mechanisms of the positive and negative microwave flows of the electromagnetic radiation are revealed. Particularly, possible formation mechanism of the microwave EMR fluxes of implants in the human body. The results of the experimental study of the EMR signals levels of the objects contacting with human body, partly materials for bone defects replacement and soft tissues regeneration so as materials for physiotherapy, are given. The use of the term “electromagnetic compatibility” for materials which contacting the human body, is proposed. The expediency of its use is proven. Microwave properties of materials for clothes, minerals and building materials, which can affect the human body and environment, have been also studied
There is No Mystery in Social System
There is a gap between the properties of social reality and the natural properties of the material bearer that carries it. Language constructivism uses language representations to bridge this gap, arguing that language constructs social reality. Emergence theory holds that the attributes of social reality cannot be reduced to the physical attributes of the carrier. This process is emergent. Language constructivism regards the process from mental reality to social reality as the product of language's own operation and the secret is hidden in language itself. Emergentism directly led social reality to mysticism. Mental reality is an initial existence, which includes both innate desires and needs and acquired values. Social reality is the external reality created by the subject through action according to his internal needs and desires. Mental reality and social reality are dynamically integrated into each other, which is achieved through rule-based action
