    Vacuum Filling Simulation with Combined Lagranian and VOF Method

    Jetting succeeded by accumulation is the characteristic of the vacuum filling, which is different from the conventional pressure-driven flow. In order to simulate this kind of flow, a three-dimensional theoretical model in terms of incompressible and viscous flow is established, and an iterative method combined with finite element method (FEM) is proposed to solve the flow problem. The Lagranian-VOF method is constructed to trace the jetting and accumulated flow fronts. Based on the proposed model and algorithm, a simulation program is developed to predict the velocity, pressure, temperature, and advancement progress. To validate the model and algorithm, a visual experimental equipment for vacuum filling is designed and construted. The vacuum filling experiments with different viscous materials and negative pressures were conducted and compared the corresponding simulations. The results show the flow front shape closely depends on the fluid viscosity and less relates to the vacuum pressure

    Review of the Ochsenius Theory for Salt Generation in the Transylvanian Basin, Romania

    This short study aims to highlight contradictions in Ochsenius’s model for the basin-wide salt generation (Kara-Bogas bay desiccation). Without claiming completeness, and through numerous records cited from the specific literature, we attempt to point at crucial incoherencies in the classical evaporitic model. In our presupposition, these might have led our ancestors to conclude that basin-wide salt generation needs theoretically well-based models. This is emphatically true for the Transylvanian Basin,Romania.The selected records are basic for the specific topic. We checked their validity by logical reasoning and by literature references.As for salt generation, the classical Ochsenius model has been upheld for the generation of evaporates even though it has been known that there are records denying the exclusivity of the evaporation model. It has also been proven that deep-sea salt exists, yet terminology is reluctant to follow the new discoveries. If non-evaporitic salt generation exists, it entails that huge salt deposits may exist, which are not remnants of a desiccation process.These cannot be considered as part of the classical theory of evaporation.Former researchers left important but neglected records, which should have updated the model of Ochsenius by now. Well-documented historical observation uncovered some contradictions in the salt generation of the Transylvanian Basin, Romania.Hereby we list 10 important contradictions,which may reveal that the well-known theory of Ochsenius (i.e. drying of Kara Bogaz bay) ought to be challenged for the Transylvanian Basin

    Properties of Sawdust Concrete

    This work examined the structural properties of concrete obtained by partially replacing cement with sawdust ash. The sawdust ash which is a pozzolan was obtained by burning sawdust which is a waste product from processing of timber in an open air. The burnt ash was passed through a 150 µm metric sieve to obtain the ash used. Physical and chemical analysis were performed on the ash to verify its suitability as a partial substitute for cement in concrete. Chemical analysis was also carried out on the Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) sample. Concrete mixes were produced by replacing OPC with 0%, 5%, 10%, 20% and 30% of Sawdust Ash (SDA). Both fresh and hardened properties of the concrete produced were investigated. The chemical investigation on the ash showed that it contained most of the basic compounds found in OPC making it suitable to serve as a partial substitute for OPC in concrete. Investigation on the concrete showed that both the workability and density of the concrete reduce as the SDA content increases. Analysis on the hardened concrete revealed that the compressive strength of the concrete decreases as the ash content increases for the early ages of curing. However, from 21 days curing age upwards, the compressive strength decreases as SDA increases up to 10% of SDA at which the compressive strength rose to a maximum value, and then starts reducing again as the percentage SDA increases. Thus, the SDA concrete gained rapid strength at later ages indicating its pozzolanic activity

    Volatile Constituents of Leaves of Trifolium alexandrinum

    This study presents the volatile constituents from leaves of Trifolium alexandrinum from Pakistan. The dried leaves were subjected to hydrodistillation for extraction and extracted volatile oil was subsequently characterized by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry technique. A total of 22 compounds were identified where the most dominant constituents were: phytol (46.00%), palmitic acid (9.26%), phytol acetate (6.44%), and linolenic acid (3.47%). Most of these are well-known constituents to exhibit antibacterial, antioxidant, antitumor, and anti-inflammatory activities

    An account of 20 species under 11 genera of the family Fabaceae is presented based upon a thorough study of the collected specimens and field surveys in this paper from Sechu Tuan Nalla Wildlife Sanctuary, Chamba district, Himachal Pradesh. Of these, fourteen taxa are reported first time from the Chamba district of the state. The updated nomenclature of the species, local name if any, a brief description of the plant, flowering and fruiting period, distribution in the study area, habitat and ecology and specimen examined have been provided

    Management of Fusarium anthophilum (Pathogen of Cereals and White Yams) Using Different Measures

    Fusarium species (including Fusarium anthophilum) have many insidious effects on mankind, animals, and plants. Their attack may lead to diseases or spoilage, and the production of mycotoxins. This study was conducted to find solutions to the infections by F. anthophilum. Three sub-trials (botanical, chemical and biocontrol sub-trials) were set up using completely randomized design, and each treatment was replicated thrice. The percentage inhibition of F. anthophilum in the botanicals-alone subtrial (i.e., Eucalyptus, Euphorbia, Andrographis, and Melaleuca spp.) at 50% and 100% concentrations ranged from 20% to 100%. At 72, 120, and 168 HAI (hours after inoculation), Eucalyptus (all concentrations) controlled the pathogen significantly more, followed by Melaleuca (all concentrations). All the botanicals (at both concentrations) controlled Fusarium sp. significantly more compared to the control. Based on the second sub-trial: the best synthetic fungicide+Trichoderma harzianum treatment was Mancozeb100%, and the percentage inhibition by these combined chemical+biocontrol treatments ranged from 28% to 50%. Mancozeb100%, followed by Metalaxyl+Cu(I) O 100% produced the highest inhibition. All chemical treatments were significantly different compared to the control (120 hours after inoculation). Based on the third subtrial: the best Botanical+T. harzianum treatment was Alligator pepper100% followed by Tumeric100%. The percentage inhibition of Fusarium sp. by these treatments ranged from 28% to 70%. Alligator pepper100% followed by Tumeric100%, then Tumeric50%, and Eucalyptus100% … were significantly different compared to the control. Combining different agents was effective in controlling the pathogen. However, lower percentage inhibitions were obtained. More research on integrating the control agents is being admonished

    The Role of Photographs and Time Lag on Positivity Ratings of Vacation and Weekend Memories

    Two studies examined the question of whether photograph taking of an event influences the positivity of the evaluations of the event at a later point in time. Memories of photographed events yielded higher positivity ratings than memories that were not photographed. Although we expected fading of positivity ratings to occur more slowly over a period of two months for memories of photographed events, we found faster affect fading for those memories in Study 2 instead. The findings of the two studies support the idea that taking photographs of events sustains the affective reconstruction of autobiographical memories, regardless of whether these events are special, such as vacation memories, or more mundane, such as memories of the past weekend

    Illness Experiences among Chinese College Students: A Negotiation Process between Social Connections and Protection of Self-Image

    This study explored the experience of illness in relation to self-image, biographical disruption, and the process of coping through semi-structured interviews with students of a university in China. Twelve students were recruited under three categories, having a physical chronic illness, mental health illness, and chronic multiple morbidities. Indepth interviews were conducted and content analyses were applied to their recordings to identify major themes and subordinate themes in the illness experience. Results showed a distorted sense of self and biographical disruptions in young adulthood were common, as reported by the respondents. Students tried to cope with these disruptions with both individual strengths and social support, but not always with positive results. Reconstruction of self, in the analysis of illness experiences, was found a crucial strategy in overcoming disruptions. Social support of evaluative nature facilitated the adoption of the reconstruction strategy. A network-building approach is recommended for student services in higher education whereas further research is necessary to understand the processes of self-reconstruction

    Assessment of Urban Morphology through Local Climate Zone Classification and Detection of the Changing Building States of Siliguri Municipal Corporation and Its Surrounding Area, West Bengal

    Progressive population concentration to the urban centres has fuelled urban expansion in both horizontal as well as vertical direction, consequences in the urban landscape change. This growth resulted in posing many complexities towards sustainable urban development which can be counted by observing the changing proportions of natural landscapes and built up areas. Local climate zones (LCZs), a systematic classification of natural lands and built up lands, are identified in Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) and its surrounding region to explore the spatio temporal complexity of urban growth in recent years. Rapid urbanization and population growth of SMC have led to change the building states from low rise to mid and high rise which added an important feature to the urban landscape dynamics of the area. The work intends to provide the vision of spatial urban morphology of the area through investigation of its changing land use and changing urban built space using the LCZ classification. The study shows that the WUDAPT method can accurately generate LCZs, especially the built type LCZs. The results of the proposed LCZ classification scheme are tested using error matrix for the year 2001 and 2021 having coefficient values of 0.79 and 0.81 respectively. The study explores the changing pattern of building states of SMC using LCZ products, which is essential for proper urban planning implementations
