    Producing High Purity Nickel Metal Powder from Nickel Wastes through Acidic Leaching by Sulfuric Acid

    Nickel has found increasing application in electronic, automobilemanufacturing, plating, and metal industries and so on. Producing highquality metal powders to satisfy increasing demand for advanced materialsis of very high importance. There are a few numbers of standard powderproduction techniques. An acidic leaching has been applied in presentresearch. Sulfuric acid has been used to leach nickel wastes of platingindustry. To produce nickel oxide powder furnaces with no protectingatmosphere and to produce pure nickel powder, tube furnace with hydrogenatmosphere has been applied. Variables performed in the research aretime, density of sulfuric acid, and amount of hydrogen peroxide. Toanalyze powders produced, EDS element analysis and to determine size ofpowder particles, SEM has been applied. It was shown by the results thatthe highest amount of nickel dissolution in sulfuric acid (98%) has takenplace during one hour and there is a direct relationship between hydrogenperoxide amount and nickel dissolution in sulfuric acid

    Embedding 3-D Gaze Points on a 3-D Visual Field: A Case of Transparency

    The paper seeks to demonstrates the likelihood of embedding a 3D gaze point on a 3D visual field, the visual field is inform of a game console where the user has to play from one level to the other by overcoming obstacles that will lead them to the next level. Complex game interface is sometimes difficult for the player to progress to next level of the game and the developers also find it difficult to regulate the game for an average player. The model serves as an analytical tool for game adaptations and also players can track their response to the game. Custom eye tracking and 3D object tracking algorithms were developed to enhance the analysis of the procedure. This is a part of the contributions to user interface design in the aspect of visual transparency. The development and testing of human computer interaction uses and application is more easily investigated than ever, part of the contribution to this is the embedding of 3-D gaze point on a 3-D visual field. This could be used in a number of applications, for instance in medical applications that includes long and short sightedness diagnosis and treatment. Experiments and Test were conducted on five different episodes of user attributes, result show that fixation points and pupil changes are the two most likely user attributes that contributes most significantly in the performance of the custom eye tracking algorithm the study. As the advancement in development of eye movement algorithm continues user attributes that showed the least likely appearance will prove to be redundant

    A Case Study of Mobile Health Applications: The OWASP Risk of Insufficient Cryptography

    Mobile devices are being deployed rapidly for both private and professional reasons. One area of that has been growing is in releasing healthcare applications into the mobile marketplaces for health management. These applications help individuals track their own biorhythms and contain sensitive information. This case study examines the source code of mobile applications released to GitHub for the Risk of Insufficient Cryptography in the Top Ten Mobile Open Web Application Security Project risks. We first develop and justify a mobile OWASP Cryptographic knowledgegraph for detecting security weaknesses specific to mobile applications which can be extended to other domains involving cryptography. We then analyze the source code of 203 open source healthcare mobile applications and report on their usage of cryptography in the applications. Our findings show that none of the open source healthcare applications correctly applied cryptography in all elements of their applications. As humans adopt healthcare applications for managing their health routines, it is essential that they consider the privacy and security risks they are accepting when sharing their data. Furthermore, many open source applications and developers have certain environmental parameters which do not mandate adherence to regulations. In addition to creating new free tools for security risk identifications during software development such as standalone or compiler-embedded, the article suggests awareness and training modules for developers prior to marketplace software release

    The Internet of Things Security and Privacy: Current Schemes, Challenges and Future Prospects

    The Internet of Things devices and users exchange massive amount of data. Some of these exchanged messages are highly sensitive as they involve organizational, military or patient personally identifiable information. Therefore, many schemes and protocols have been put forward to protect the transmitted messages. The techniques deployed in these schemes may include blockchain, public key infrastructure, elliptic curve cryptography, physically unclonable function and radio frequency identification. In this paper, a review is provided of these schemes including their strengths and weaknesses. Based on the obtained results, it is clear that majority of these protocols have numerous security, performance and privacy issues

    Phytoplankton Diversity of a Demineralized Urban Wetland of Meghalaya State of Northeast India: The Spatio-temporal Variations and the Role of Abiotic Factors

    The authors analyze phytoplankton diversity of a small urban wetland of Meghalaya to assess biodiversity and limnology interest of small water bodies. This “slightly acidic-circumneutral, demineralized and soft water” subtropical wetland reveals diverse phytoplankton (64 species), indicates high desmid richness and highlights the speciose littoral constellations of up to 55-58 species per sample. Phytoplankton comprises dominant quantitative component of net plankton and registers Charophyta dominance; Chlorophyta > Bacillariophyta > Dinozoa > Chrysophyta > Cyanobacteria depict sub-dominance, and Euglenozoa and Cryptophyta show poor abundance at the littoral and semi-limnetic regions. The richness of phytoplankton and abundance of phytoplankton, Charophyta, Chlorophyta, Dinozoa, Chrysophyta and Cyanobacteria follow bimodal spatio-temporal variations. Closterium, Cosmarium, Staurastrum, Micrasterias, Netrium, Staurodesmus and Scenedesmus are notable genera, and 14 species collectively influence phytoplankton abundance. Phytoplankton registers high species diversity, lower dominance and high evenness. Amongst 15 abiotic factors, only the rainfall and sulphate exert notable influence individually, while the canonical correspondence analysis registers lower cumulative influence of the selected 10 factors on the littoral and semi-limnetic phytoplankton assemblages. This study merits interest for neglected biodiversity and ecology of small aquatic biotopes of India and urban wetlands in particular

    The Biogeographic Network of Birds in the Brazilian Cerrado May Guide Conservation Efforts

    The Brazilian Cerrado, characterized by grasslands, savannahs and riverine forests, is a biodiversity hotspot, threatened by the expansion of the agricultural frontier, and therefore, needs effective conservation actions. At the national level, the Cerrado core-region has received more conservation efforts than the marginal (non-core) areas, being considered more biodiverse. However, many marginal areas are also home to high species richness and endemism. Birds represent a highly diverse and widely distributed biological group, whose variety of functions gives them important roles in the maintenance of ecosystem services. In this study the authors analysed the distribution patterns of bird biodiversity in the Brazilian Cerrado and verified whether a separation into core and marginal Cerrado zones would make sense for birds’ distribution, as this is an important issue concerning resources allocation for biodiversity conservation. The authors developed a biogeographic network analysis considering 42 sites with savannah vegetation distributed throughout the country and built two presence-absence matrices for birds – with and without species typical of the woodland Cerrado and forest physiognomies – and generated two biogeographic networks. The network without woodland/forest bird species showed no modularity, whereas the complete network produced three modules: Northwest, Centre-South and Centre-North. Network modularity was mainly determined by forest/woodland bird species. The Northwest region was richer and had a greater number of regional species compared to the other two modules; lower richness of bird species was found in the Centre-South region, which had more widespread species. The biogeographic pattern for the Cerrado birds perceived in this study did not evidence a clear dichotomy between core versus marginal regions. Therefore, the same conservation effort should be implemented throughout the Cerrado

    Petroleum Filling Stations and Their Impact on the Environment in Nigeria

    The poor state of the environment, especially in urban areas, has become a major global issue, with developing countries such as Nigeria voicing growing concern. There is a scarcity of knowledge on the environmental impact of PFSs as a result of the loss of life and property, as well as other serious socio-economic implications of non-compliance with PFSs siting criteria. The historical literature on the impact of residential buildings, the environment, and human health on PFSs in Nigeria, as well as the study's gap, is examined in this research. It also outlines DPR compliance with PFSs location as well as established criteria for prohibiting PFS sitting in Nigeria's states. Relevant publications on PFSs-related topics were downloaded from Google Scholar. The goal of this study is to look back on a previous essay about PFSs in Nigeria and its impacts on the environment and human health. This study's main purpose is to give a complete overview of Nigerian PFSs. According to the article analyzed, the majority of PFSs were located close to residents, with setbacks from the road and residential areas of less than 30 m in 90% of the filling stations. As a result, the landowners can band together to argue that a facility that is improperly sited cannot be built. A great deal of public participation is required. A campaign should be launched to raise awareness among filling station owners and other developers of the dangers of non-compliance with established norms. All violators of the established norms, as well as corrupt officials of enforcement agencies/bodies, should face open punishment so that others might learn their lessons. Finally, appropriate planning is required to allow future road expansion

    Quantum Biophysics of the Atmosphere: Asymmetric Wavelets of the Average Annual Air Temperature of Irkutsk for 1820-2019

    The regularities of the dynamics of the average annual temperature of Irkutsk from 1820 to 2019 were revealed. It is proposed to use the sum of temperatures. However, this indicator requires the continuity of the dynamic series, so for Irkutsk the sum of temperatures could be accepted only from 1873. The first three terms of the general wavelet model gave a very high correlation coefficient of 0.9996. The second indicator is a moving average, calculated as the ratio of the sum of temperatures to the current time. Here the first three wavelets gave a correlation coefficient of 0.9962. In the dynamics of the average annual temperature from 1820 to 2019, 86 wavelets were obtained, of which 47 affect the future. The temperature has a high quantum certainty, and the change in the average annual temperature of Irkutsk is obtained up to a measurement error of 0.05 °C, and the identification process occurs as a full wavelet analysis. The basis of the forecast in 200 years makes it possible to replace the non-linear two-term trend with an oscillatory perturbation. With an increase in the number of terms in the model, the ordinate of the average annual temperature increases: For three terms, the temperature interval is from –2.95 °C to 2.61 °C; for 12 members from –4.06 °C to 4.02 °C; for the forecast for 47 members for 2020- 2220, from –4.62 °C to 4.40 °C
