Do the Environmental Approval Conditions Enable the Best Practice EIA Follow-up and Hence Strengthen the EIA System? An Indian Case Study Analysis
The environmental approval for a project is generally granted with a set of terms and conditions to the project proponent. The environmental clearance (EC) letters for 33 infrastructure projects were examined for the relevance, adequacy, and enforceability of the EC conditions. Using the basic tenets of the EIA process, it is found that the long list of irrelevant, inadequate, and unenforceable conditions is greenwash and unsuited for best practice EIA follow-up, hence meeting the EIA objectives. The conditions should be directed at measuring the environmental performance of the project to catalyze achieving sustainability targets. The conditions for stringent supervision and frequent inspection of the site activities in the construction phase could help ensure the implementation of the proposed mitigation measures for infrastructure projects. A comprehensive environmental impact assessment framework may use the principles of the ABC analysis to prioritize the properly specified EC conditions, resource allocation, and stakeholder engagement for the best practice EIA follow-up and hence strengthen the EIA system
Thermo-Mechanical Analysis of a Typical Vehicle Engine Using PTC-Creo
In this work, a typical vehicle engine is modeled within PTC-Creo software, and its thermal, mechanical, and thermo-mechanical performance are evaluated. This is followed by the vibrational, fatigue, and buckling analysis of the assembly of components, which are the predominant failure causes. The results show that the least temperature gradient occurs in the center of the pin, which connects the piston to the connecting rod, the maximum displacement is seen just below the piston head, and the thermo-mechanical failure is caused mostly (about 85%) by the mechanical load rather than the thermal one. Also, in fatigue analysis, the minimum and maximum values for the safety factor are 0.63 and 5, respectively. The results can prevent the reoccurrence of similar failures and help the enhancement of the components’ design and manufacturing process
Assessment of Subsurface Competency Using Geotechnical Method of a Proposed Structure F.C.T Nigeria
Structural failure has been recently happenings mostly in the commercially populated states along the coastal line in Nigeria. As a result, an open field at a chosen location in Abuja, Nigeria, was investigated. For the purpose of this study, test bores were drilled and Standard Penetration Tests (SPT) were conducted at every 1.5 m interval up to a maximum depth of 12.0 m with the bearing pressure ranging between 20 kN/m2 and 1000 kN/m2 . 3 test bores were drilled within the plot location, and samples were obtained at the test bore’s locations for laboratory analysis. Findings revealed that subsurface lithology found at the site within the explored depths of 0.0-12.0 m is mostly silty sand, laterite, sandy clay, silty clay, clayey sand, and weathered rock. The findings from the sub-soils of the different places and their bearing pressures were computed with SPT N value. Building foundations may be rigid raft foundations at a depth of 2.0 meters below the present ground level, according to bearing capacity values that range from 20 kN/m2 to 60 kN/m2 at 1.5 to 3.0 meters. The recommended building foundations take into account the sub-soil’s characteristics at the drilling places at a depth of between 1.0 and 3.0 meters. The structure might also be supported by frictional piles buried 10 meters beneath the surface
Delivery of Bull Dog Calf from a Hydroallantoic Murrah Buffalo
An 8 years old Murrah buffalo in its 5th party was presented with the history of 9 month of gestation and sudden bilateral abdominal distension since last 25 days. Animal was 7 anorectic with pale mucus membrane and had staggering gait. Per vaginum examination revealed closed cervix with intact cervical seal. By transrectal palpation only the fluid in the uterus could be palpable. Based on history and clinical examination findings, it was diagnosed as hydroallantois. Parturition was induced using cloprostenol and dexamethasone. Beside this an intracervical injection of closprostenol was also given on 6 o’clock and 12 o’clock position (250 µg each) of external os to hasten the cervical dilation. A dead bulldog calf was removed with manual traction after 26 hours of initial treatment. It was concluded that the cloprostenol and dexamethasone are effective for the induction of parturition in animals suffering from hydroallantois provided fluid from the allantoic sac is removed slowly.
Assessment of Geotechnical Properties of Laki Limestone for Coarse Aggregate, Nooriabad, Jamshoro Sindh, Pakistan
Present study is aimed at assessment of geotechnical properties of Laki limestone as coarse aggregate which is being quarried in Nooriabad area, Sindh, Pakistan. Coarse aggregate samples (n=20) of limestone were collected for the evaluation of physico-mechanical properties of the aggregate. Petrographic analysis revealed that the aggregate comprises of hard, compact, massive, crystalline and fossiliferous limestone. It is devoid of any reactive silica (chert, chalcedony) and other harmful constituents like clays or organic matter. Average values of specific gravity, absorption,bulk density, void content and combined index (EI + FI) of collected samples are 2.5, 2.1%, 1.54 g/cc, 38.55% and 13.04% respectively. The values of specific gravity (2.3-2.9), absorption (0-8%), bulk density (1.28 g/cc-1.92 g/cc) and void content (30%-45%) are varying within the range of normal weight aggregate as per American concrete institute (ACI)specifications. On the other hand, absorption values of aggregate samples are slightly higher (2.1%) than the reference range (2%) but meet other requirements. Mechanical properties including aggregate impact value (8.58%), aggregate crushing value (26.66%), Loss Angeles abrasion value (24.77%), sodium sulfate soundness (4.72%), water soluble sulfate (0.006%) and water soluble chloride (0.005%) are found to be within corresponding guidelines set by ASTM. On the other hand, average carbonate content is found to be 89.64% indicating that Laki limestone is of slightly low purity. Except absorption, all physical and mechanical properties lie within specified ranges. It is concluded that Laki limestone is suitable for use as road aggregate and concrete mix design

Osteonecrosis of the femoral head is a common disability disease of the hip joint in China, and osteonecrosis of the femoral head caused by hormone factors is the most common, which is related to the gradual increase in the utilization rate of glucocorticoids in recent years. It is a refractory disease in orthopaedics with a poor prognosis. For this disease, the treatment of traditional Chinese medicine has certain advantages. In view of this, the author reads, analyzes and summarizes its materials by searching China Journal full-text Database and Wanfang Database. This paper reviews the mechanism and clinical research progress of tonifying kidney and activating blood circulation in the prevention and treatment of steroid-induced osteonecrosis of the femoral head, hoping to provide help for the clinical treatment of hormone-related osteonecrosis of the femoral head
Cancer Rehabilitation, A New Discipline Based upon Multidisciplinary Collaboration
Cancer Rehabilitation is a new discipline, a combination of tumor medication, immunology, psychology, nutritional science and exercise physiology etc.. The core of cancer rehabilitation is the therapy of natural immunology, which aims at activating T-cells, and restoring the bone marrow function impaired during chemo-radiation therapy. Cancer rehabilitation seeks to achieve the gradual recovery of the immune system, which in turn hinders recurrence and metastasis. In addition, with the help of psychological consultation, nutritional and physical exercise guidance, cancer patients may have a better chance at managing the risk of recurrence and metastasis, extending life expectancy with an improved quality of life.
Assessing the Impact of the “Two-child Policy” in China: The Effects of the Second Child on the Growth of Teenagers
Purpose: China’s new universal two-child policy has brought a baby boom of the second child in 2016. With the changing family structures, elder children in adolescence may have more and more emotional and even psychological problems such as “two-child syndrome”. This paper aims to explore the “influence factors and mechanism of the second child on the growth of teenagers” and has great practical significance to promote the physical and mental health of teenagers and the harmony of two-child families. Design/methodology/approach: By means of literature analysis, in-depth interview, questionnaire survey and statistical analysis, the elder children aged 12 to 18 in the two-child family were taken as the main body of the survey, and an empirical research based on NLP understanding hierarchy theory was carried out. Major Findings: (1) The most significant influence on the growth of teenagers is the attitude of parents, and then the gender of the first child. (2) Parents’ favouritism towards the second child would lead to decline in the first child’s academic performance. (3) The higher the family income, the less the influence on the first child’s life. (4) When the age difference is large, the first child and the second child are not easy to have conflicts. Practical implications: Parents should try to treat any children equally. Parents should pay attention to the sibling relationship of their two children with small age gap. Parents who have two children with a large age gap should properly guide the elder child to help take care of the younger brother or sister. Originality/value: This study contributes to the growing literature focusing on the influence factors and mechanism of the second child on the growth of teenagers in the context of China’s new universal two-child policy. It adds some early empirical insights on the physical and mental health of teenagers in twochild families
The Differences between County, County-level City and Municipal District in the System of Administrative Districts in China
Administrative division is an important means of political power reorganization and management, resource integration and optimal allocation, which profoundly shapes the spatial layout of urban development in China. To clarify and compare differences between counties, county-level cities and municipal districts is the primary premise for the study of administrative division and urban development. This paper analyzes the institutional differences between counties and county-level cities, as well as counties, county-level cities and municipal districts, from the aspects of organizational structure, urban construction planning, land management, finance, taxation and public services. The research shows that the establishment of counties, county-level cities and municipal districts adapt to different levels and stages of economic and social development,and the conversion from county to county-level city and the conversion from county (or county-level city) to municipal district are both important transformation ways to change their administrative systems, which has different management system and operation pattern. At the same time, the transformation of county-level administrative region is also a “double-edged sword”, we should think about the administrative system as a whole to decide whether it should be adjusted, and effectively respond to the actual needs of local economic and social development
