    No full text
The Nkoup watershed (10°35’-10°47’E and 5°27’-5°42’N) is a volcanic zone situated in Nun Plain West Cameroon. The high fertility of the soils makes it a strategic agropastoral area where water resources are heavily exploited and used for several purposes. Due to human activities, soils and water resources are deteriorating, giving birth to water pollution and hydromorphological hazards. This work aims to determine the hydromorphometric parameters of the Nkoup watershed so that the data obtained help in the sustainable management of water resources and conservation of soil. To achieve this aim, various data were collected from DEM dataset derived from SRTM and processed in specialized software (QGIS and ArGIS). The simplified hydrological balance was calculated using the upstream approach. The Nkoup watershed has: Axial length Lax = 25.8 km, Axial Width Wax = 11.1 km, Perimeter P = 132.6 km, Area A = 173.7 km2 , Average Altitude Ha = 1726.3 m, Compactness Index Icomp = 2.8, Relief ratio Rr = 3.9 m/km, Circularity ratio Rc = 0.1, Elongation ratio R = 0.1, Drainage texture ratio Rt = 0.6, Drainage density Dd = 0.5 km/km2 . Stream Frequency Fs = 0.4, Channel Sinuosity Index CSI = 0.8, Stream gradient Sg = 0.6 and global slope Index Ig = 6.8 m/km. The specific height Difference Ds = 89.4 m shows moderate relief. The precipitation and evapotranspiration are unevenly distributed. With P = 187.7 mm/an, ETP = 953.4 mm/an, Q = 4.2 m3 /s, R = 762.5 mm/an, ETR = 832.3 mm/an and I = 282.9 mm/an. The Nkoup, 36.9 km long, has a sinuous aspect due to the low slope and the high CSI. The piezometric levels vary according to the seasons and the groundwater flow follows the N-S direction as surface flow

Photopolymer-metal Composites Based on Metal Foil Deposition on Additive Manufactured Substrates: An Overview

    No full text
Photopolymer materials are a type of polymer material that can undergo chemical reactions when exposed to light of a specific wavelength or intensity. Liquid photopolymers are used in applications such as 3D printing, where they are deposited layer by layer and cured by exposure to light. Solid photopolymers, also known as photoresists, are used in applications such as lithography and microfabrication, where they are applied as a thin film and selectively exposed to light to create a pattern. The properties of photopolymer materials, such as mechanical strength, thermal stability, and chemical resistance, can be tailored by adjusting the monomer type, photo initiator type, and processing parameters such as the exposure time and intensity. Overall, photopolymer materials are a versatile and widely used type of polymer material that can be tailored for specific applications through the choice of monomer, photo initiator, and processing parameters. Photopolymer-metal composites based on metal foil deposition on additive manufactured substrates are a technique for creating composite materials with a combination of metal and polymer properties. This approach involves the deposition of a thin layer of metal foil onto a 3D printed polymer substrate, which is then cured using photopolymerization to create a composite material with unique properties

About Some Aspects of Use of Optical Sensors for Monitoring the Aquatic Environment

    No full text
Multi-channel polarization optical technology is increasingly used for prompt monitoring of water systems. Optical devices during the assessment of water quality determine the intensity of light through the studied aquatic environment. Spectrophotometric devices measure the spectrum of weakening of light through the aquatic environment. Spectroellipsometric devices receive spectra in vertical and horizontal polarizations. The presented article develops an adaptive optical hardware and image system for monitoring water bodies. The system is combined. It consists of 2 parts: 1) automated spectrophotometer-refractometer, and 2) adaptive spectroellipsometer. The system is equipped with a corresponding algorithmic and software, including algorithms for identifying spectral curves, databases and knowledge of spectral curves algorithms for solving reverse problems. The presented system is original since it differs from modern foreign systems by a new method of spectrophotometric and spectroellipsometric measurements, an original elemental base of polarization optics and a comprehensive mathematical approach to assessing the quality of a water body. There are no rotating polarization elements in the system. Therefore, this makes it possible to increase the signal-to-noise ratio and, as a result, improve measurement stability and simplify multichannel spectrophotometers and spectroellipsometers. The proposed system can be used in various water systems where it is necessary to assess water quality or identify the presence of a certain set of chemical elements

Religious Events and Interpretation of Fluctuations in Stock Markets Evidence from Price Anomalies during the Arbaeen Occasion in the Iraq Stock Exchange

    No full text
Many studies and research have shown close relationships between seasonal phenomena that are related to religious beliefs and anomalies in returns and stock prices, which paved the way for exploring other anomaly days and wider time series that occur in the second month of the Hijri year, which is the month of Safar in the holy city of Karbala in Iraq, as it will represent an experimental addition to the financial scientific path and aid in providing evidence of those fluctuations and what they produce in influencing prices and returns in the stock market. The study, which conducted an analysis of stock prices in the banking sector and the hotel sector in the market for the period from 2013-2022, shows a low estimate of the price of one share compared to the volume of billion shares, as well as a gradual decline in share prices for the two sectors, the study sample, and the share prices in the month of Safar, which witnessed a remarkable fluctuation in the general average of the periods. The three are divided into ten days each period, at the beginning of the month, during the visit, and at the end of the month, with a slight decrease in the first and middle periods and then a rise again at the end of the month. This supports the general recession that affects various sectors, including the economic and financial ones, and constitutes an opportunity for the investment decision-maker to benefit from these price fluctuations

On Monetizing Personal Wearable Devices Data: A Blockchain-based Marketplace for Data Crowdsourcing and Federated Machine Learning in Healthcare

    No full text
Machine learning advancements in healthcare have made data collected through smartphones and wearable devices a vital source of public health and medical insights. While wearable device data helps to monitor, detect, and predict diseases and health conditions, some data owners hesitate to share such sensitive data with companies or researchers due to privacy concerns. Moreover, wearable devices have been recently available as commercial products; thus large, diverse, and representative datasets are not available to most researchers. In this article, we propose an open marketplace where wearable device users securely monetize their wearable device records by sharing data with consumers (e.g., researchers) to make wearable device data more available to healthcare researchers. To secure the data transactions in a privacy-preserving manner, we use a decentralized approach using Blockchain and Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs). To ensure data originality and integrity with secure validation, our marketplace uses Trusted Execution Environments (TEE) in wearable devices to verify the correctness of health data. The marketplace also allows researchers to train models using Federated Learning with a TEE-backed secure aggregation of data users may not be willing to share. To ensure user participation, we model incentive mechanisms for the Federated Learning-based and anonymized data-sharing approaches using NFTs. We also propose using payment channels and batching to reduce smart contact gas fees and optimize user profits. If widely adopted, we believe that TEE and Blockchain-based incentives will promote the ethical use of machine learning with validated wearable device data in healthcare and improve user participation due to incentives.

The Correlation of Gyroscope Axial Velocities

    No full text
In engineering, all movable expanse revolving objects manifest gyroscopic effects. These effects are created by the action of the outer load on the revolving items whose rotating mass originates eight inertial torques about two axes. Two torques of centrifugal forces, one torque of the Coriolis force originated by the rotating distributed mass, and the torque of the change in the angular momentum of the center mass act about each axis. The inertial torques activate rotations of the gyroscope by the determined correlation. Inertial torques depend on their geometry and orientation at the spatial coordinate system. The known analytical model for the rotation of the revolving disc about axes contains a mechanical error. This error was obtained by the incorrect integration of the centrifugal inertial torque. The corrected inertial torque yields the accurate expression for the interacted rotations of the revolving disc about axes
