Digital transformation has significantly changed the landscape of the Islamic financial industry, presenting new challenges and opportunities for the Sharia Supervisory Board (SSB). This study aims to conceptually reinterpret the role of the SSB in ensuring compliance with sharia principles amidst digital disruption. Using a qualitative literature study approach, this article analyzes findings from various scientific journals, regulations, and related fatwas. The results of the study indicate that the role of the SSB, which has so far been normative and administrative, is not sufficient to address the complexity of digital innovation. Full text link
Popular culture disseminated through social media has driven a transformation in masculine values within urban communities, particularly among men who use fashion and skincare products. This study aims to examine the shift in masculinity values from traditional to modern and to analyze the social interaction processes among male fashion users in Mataram. Employing a qualitative phenomenological approach, data were collected via in-depth interviews with twelve male informants actively engaged with fashion and skincare. Analysis was conducted using phenomenological reduction techniques, along with source and time triangulation. The findings indicate that traditional masculinity centered on physical strength and dominance has shifted toward a more flexible, reflective, and self-care–oriented modern masculinity. Social interactions occur directly through peer groups and indirectly via social media, which serves as a platform for exchanging new masculine symbols and identities. These findings highlight the importance of reconstructing understandings of masculinity within the context of popular culture and digital technology, offering theoretical contributions to gender, media, and cultural sociology studies

Value-Based Cooperative Learning in Islamic Education: Integrating TGT, Islamic Values, and Student Engagement

Background: Islamic Religious Education (PAI) often struggles to foster student engagement, as teacher-centered instruction tends to limit participation and enthusiasm. In pluralistic societies such as Indonesia, this challenge is compounded by the need to integrate Islamic values with local wisdom and religious moderation. Cooperative learning models like Team Games Tournament (TGT) have shown promise in promoting collaboration, yet their affective impact on enthusiasm in Islamic education remains underexplored. Research Objectives: This study aims to examine the effect of the TGT learning model on students’ enthusiasm for learning PAI. Specifically, it seeks to test whether TGT enhances cognitive, affective, and behavioral dimensions of enthusiasm while embedding Islamic values, local wisdom, and principles of religious moderation. Methods: A quantitative experimental approach was employed using a one-group pretest–posttest design. The participants were 29 ninth-grade students at SMP Sinar Husni Medan, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a validated 25-item enthusiasm scale covering three dimensions and analyzed with descriptive statistics, Shapiro–Wilk and Levene’s tests, paired-sample t-tests, and Cohen’s d effect size. Results: Findings indicate a statistically significant improvement in enthusiasm after TGT implementation (t = 8.87, p < 0.001; Cohen’s d = 0.78). Gains were strongest in affective enthusiasm (+8.5%), followed by cognitive (+6.1%) and behavioral (+5.7%) dimensions. These results confirm that TGT not only enhances engagement but also enables students to practice values of shura, ukhuwah, and ta‘awun through cooperative interaction, complemented by local wisdom such as dalihan na tolu. Conclusions: The study concludes that TGT significantly improves enthusiasm in PAI by fostering positive emotions, participation, and cultural relevance. Theoretically, it contributes a Value-Based Cooperative Learning Framework that integrates Islamic ethics, local wisdom, and religious moderation into cooperative pedagogy. Practically, the findings suggest that TGT can revitalize Islamic education in pluralistic societies and inspire future comparative studies in both Muslim-majority and minority contexts

Diversity and Adaptation of Islamic Law in Indonesia: Pathways to Integration

Background:  The development of Islamic law in Indonesia reflects a complex trajectory shaped by historical encounters, colonial interventions, and post-independence reforms. Its position within a plural legal system—where Islamic law coexists with state law and customary law—demonstrates both continuity and adaptation. Purpose:  This study seeks to analyze how Islamic Diversity, influenced by cultural, organizational, and socio-political factors, shapes the pathways of Islamic law’s adaptation and integration in Indonesia’s national legal framework. Methods:   The research applies a normative legal approach that combines historical, conceptual, and statutory analysis. Primary sources include statutory regulations and legal documents, supported by secondary materials such as scholarly literature, while tertiary sources provide definitional and contextual support. Data are analyzed qualitatively to assess the meaning and implications of legal developments. Findings: The findings reveal that Islamic law has gradually transformed from marginalization under colonial rule to significant recognition within national law through instruments such as the 1974 Marriage Law, the Compilation of Islamic Law, and Aceh’s Qanun. Ongoing debates—such as interfaith inheritance—illustrate the continuing challenges of legal pluralism and the necessity of contextual interpretation . Theoretical and Practical Implications:    the study enriches scholarship on legal pluralism by demonstrating Indonesia’s unique model of integration. Practically, it highlights the maqāṣid al-sharīʿah approach as a normative tool to ensure justice, inclusivity, and responsiveness in policy and legal reform Originality/Novelty:  This research contributes by integrating historical, normative, and sociological perspectives to show how Islamic Diversity can serve as a foundation for inclusive legal pluralism and sustainable legal reform in Indonesia &nbsp

Legal and Religious Controversies in Eliminating Female Khitan (Circumcision)

Background: The Indonesian Government Regulation No. 28/2024, particularly Article 102, has sparked national debate due to its prohibition of female circumcision—a practice that remains prevalent in several Muslim communities. While global health institutions classify it as female genital mutilation (FGM), many Islamic scholars continue to defend it as a religiously mandated act. Purpose: This study aims to explore the responses of local religious leaders to this policy change, with a particular focus on how legal, theological, and cultural arguments shape their resistance or acceptance. Methods: A qualitative method with a normative juridical approach was employed. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with four prominent religious leaders in Pamatang Simalungun Village, complemented by document analysis of fatwas and official religious statements. Thematic analysis was used to identify key discourses and legal-religious justifications. Results: The findings reveal a strong resistance among religious leaders, primarily based on classical Shafi’i jurisprudence that considers female circumcision mandatory. Participants argued that the policy undermines religious authority and fails to accommodate socio-cultural contexts. Health risks were downplayed in favor of scriptural interpretations. Implication: The study demonstrates a significant epistemological gap between public health policy and religious reasoning. Originality: A more dialogical policy model that incorporates religious leaders into the legislative process to bridge legal legitimacy and religious compliance. Background: The Indonesian Government Regulation No. 28/2024, particularly Article 102, has sparked national debate due to its prohibition of female circumcision—a practice that remains prevalent in several Muslim communities. Justice Beyond Legal Religious Formalism: Moral Perspectives in Law Enforcement Practices

Background:   The relationship between law, justice, and morality remains central in legal philosophy, yet much of the discourse remains normative and detached from real-world enforcement . Purpose:   This study aims to empirically examine how moral frameworks influence the practice of law enforcement, particularly within contexts shaped by Islamic jurisprudence and local socio-cultural norms.. Methods: The research draws on semi-structured interviews with law enforcement officers, analysis of court cases, and ethnographic observation in Indonesian legal settings . Findings: Findings reveal that moral considerations rooted in religious values and communal ethics significantly shape interpretations and enforcement decisions, often mediating tensions between codified state law and local moral expectations. The evidence also shows that while positivist approaches dominate formal structures, natural law reasoning and socio-cultural ethics remain influential in practice. Theoretical and Practical Implications:  The study bridges philosophy of law with empirical socio-legal research, offering insights into how morality operates as a determinant in justice delivery and conflict resolution. Originality/Novelty:  This research contributes by integrating anthropological fiqh with legal philosophy, providing a culturally grounded and empirically validated framework for understanding morality in law enforcement &nbsp

Dynamics of Marriage Dispensation at The Sidenreng Rappang Religious Court After Law No. 16 of 2019: A Comparative Study of Family Law

This research examines social facts related to marriage dispensation before and after the enactment of Law No. 16/2019 at the Sidenreng Rappang Religious Court. The focus of the research is on the factors causing the increase in marriage dispensation applications and the response of law enforcers in the religious courts. The method used is field research with a qualitative descriptive approach and case study method. The results showed that after the enactment of Law No. 16/2019, which raised the minimum age of marriage to 19 years, there was a significant increase in marriage dispensation applications at the Sidenreng Rappang Religious Court. The main factors influencing the high number of applications include family economic conditions, low levels of education, strong local social and cultural norms, pregnancy outside marriage, and lack of supervision and education from parents. In addition, fear of violating religious norms and a desire to maintain the family's reputation are also important reasons for marriage dispensation applications. Despite various education and socialization efforts by the Sidenreng Rappang Religious Court, the effective implementation of the minimum age of marriage still faces challenges due to deep-rooted social and cultural factors in the community. This study recommends the need for increased legal education, strengthening the role of parents, and synergy between agencies to reduce marriage dispensation.             &nbsp

Purifying the Soul, Healing the Age: The Relevance of Al-Ghazali’s Concept of Happiness in Responding to Contemporary Spiritual Crisis

This study aims to explore Al-Ghazali’s concept of happiness as elaborated in his work Kīmiyā’ al-Sa‘ādah and to critically analyze its relevance in addressing the spiritual and ethical crisis of contemporary society. The research departs from the concern that the modern understanding of happiness is largely materialistic, short-term, and psychologically fragmented, often resulting in existential anxiety and spiritual emptiness. Al-Ghazali offers a holistic framework of happiness rooted in self-knowledge (ma‘rifat al-nafs), soul purification (tazkiyat al-nafs), and spiritual ascension toward divine knowledge (ma‘rifatullāh), combining both individual and social dimensions of well-being. This research employed a qualitative descriptive-analytical method with a library research approach, using Kīmiyā’ al-Sa‘ādah as the primary source and supported by relevant academic literature and field data. The study finds that happiness in Al-Ghazali’s perspective is a transformative process that involves ethical cultivation, self-discipline, and spiritual awareness. Furthermore, it responds meaningfully to modern spiritual disconnection and the weakening of social ethics. The findings also reveal that Al-Ghazali’s conception of happiness aligns with, yet transcends, modern psychological models by integrating the vertical (God-human) and horizontal (human-human) dimensions of life. It offers not only an inner sense of peace but also serves as a foundation for moral and social harmony. Based on these findings, the study recommends the integration of Al-Ghazali’s values into spiritual education, character formation programs, and contemporary counseling practices. It also proposes further interdisciplinary research between Islamic philosophical traditions and contemporary psychological sciences to enrich the discourse on meaningful and holistic happiness in the 21st century
