    No full text
The Covid-19 outbreak has compelled many countries to shift towards distance learning as a means to continue education while ensuring the safety of students and educators. Consequently, the usage of information technologies in education has increased significantly. This study focuses on developing a tool for measuring the information technology self-efficacy of primary school teachers in Balıkesir who have had to increase their use of technology for distance education during the academic year 2020-2021. The study participants are primary school teachers in Balıkesir. The scale structure, consisting of five factors and twelve items, was identified through analysis. The results indicate that the developed scale is reliable. The scale can help assess the self-efficacy of distance education teachers and support efforts to improve their use of information technologies

What Role Do Visions About Future and Vocational Outcome Expectations Have on Proactive Career Behaviors%253F Examining a Mediation Model on University Students

Adapting to the rapidly changing business and working world today is a behavior that every individual needs, no matter what stage of their career. One of the important variables that make it easier for individuals to adapt to these changes is proactive career behaviors. Addressing the roles of the variables that strengthen proactive career behaviors within a certain approach (i.e., Social Cognitive Career Theory) will produce results that will contribute to adapting to the change that the individual needs. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to investigate the mediating role of vocational outcome expectations in the relationship between the visions about future (hope, optimism, pessimism) and proactive career behaviors. 442 university students participated in the research. The ages of the participants vary between 18-27. The structural equation modeling method was used in the analysis of the data. Results indicated that visions about future and vocational outcome expectations were positively associated with proactive career behaviors. The results also indicated that vocational outcome expectations have been shown to have a partial mediating role in the relationship between the visions about future and proactive career behaviors

The purpose of this research is to improve and evaluate a different approach to develop the lab application skills of the physics pre-service teachers in the courses of Secondary Physics Experimental Design (SPED), School Experience (SE) and Teaching Practices (TP). In this context, action research was used to achieve the purpose of the research. The research carried out with 20 pre-service physics teachers studying in the 5th grade of a Northern University in Türkiye in the academic year of 2015-2016 and 2016-2017. Physics pre-service teachers implemented micro-teaching applications for the lab applications in the SPED course, practiced applications in the schools within the SE course in the fall semester and reinforced the lab skills in the TP course in the spring semester. Implemented activities carried out the applications significantly contributed to the development of the lab methods application skills of the physics pre-service teachers

A New Chapter is Being Written About Writing Instruction%253A Instructional Leadership at K-12 Levels in The Age of Artificial Intelligence (AI)

In this study, in which artificial intelligence applications are examined at the K-12 level, the discussions are multi-dimensional. The use of artificial intelligence applications at the K-12 level, and especially the integrated use of online writing tools into the writing lessons, has led to the occurrence of plagiarism from time to time. In the first place, the fact that artificial intelligence applications create the feeling of being able to think like a human causes student to fully trust this software. What is more, when the subject is approached in terms of educational leadership, teachers%252339%253B transfer of experience and high level of interaction during teaching and learning decreases. Because artificial intelligence applications individualize the education process and allow students to work more independently from the teacher and from peers. That being said, there are some points that are worth noting here. AI applications should be used as a tool, not an end because when these applications are utilized accountability cannot always be attained. The number of teachers who are already competent in informing and supervising students against malpractices is not sufficient. The fact that teachers are not fully competent in this respect poses a danger to the control and safety of the process. In order for artificial intelligence applications to be exercised effectively at the K-12 level, some software languages and coding skills must be acquired. Lastly, important steps need to be taken towards the future of artificial intelligence applications. Each country should include them in their education systems through their curricula from an early age along with AI applications. In this direction, teacher training programs should also be reviewed. It is of crucial importance to raise the awareness of the society on artificial intelligence, and about ethical rules and morality

The study was designed in a sequential explanatory design, which is a mixed design. Quantitative data were collected from 241 educators through a 12-item survey by the researchers. Then, qualitative data were collected by conducting interviews with 12 participants through a semi-structured form. The Pareto technique was used in the analysis of quantitative data in the research, and content analysis was used in qualitative data. According to the results obtained in line with the quantitative data of the research, it was found that the career ladder application was not appropriate and the law did not increase teacher welfare and motivation to work. It has also been disappointing after the law came into force. In line with the findings that emerged in line with the qualitative data, the law is not comprehensive and inclusive, it is expected to be developed over time and does not sufficiently guarantee personal rights. It eliminates the practice of equal pay for equal work and disturbs the peace at school. The fact that the law came to the fore with its material aspect also damaged the professional reputation. Stakeholder views were not taken into account while drafting the law. It is expected that the job descriptions of educators, career planning, elimination of financial concerns, increasing professional reputation, specialization according to the branch, serving professional development, and securing teacher rights

The study was carried out to determine whether Turkish primary school 1st graders experienced reading loss during the summer holidays and whether giving book support to disadvantaged students during the summer holidays was effective in preventing this loss. The research was conducted with 26 students at a rural primary school. The pretest-posttest quasi-experimental design was used, and while the experimental group including 12 students carried out reading activities during the summer holiday as part of the lsquo%253BTelafide Ben De Varım (I Am in for the Remedial) program, the control group consisting of 14 students did not participate in any summer reading. In the study, the Error Analysis Inventory prepared by Akyol (2020) based on Harris and Sipay (1990), Ekwall and Shanker (1988) and May (1986) was used as the data collection tool. With the Error Analysis Inventory consisting of Comprehension Scale, Setting Scale, and Articulation Scale, three types of reading levels are measured%253A anxiety level, instructional level and independent level. The results of the pre-test administered before the start of the summer vacation using this inventory revealed that the students in both groups generally showed poor reading performance and their average reading level was at the anxiety level. The post-test administered after the opening of the schools showed that the level of the control group did not change, while the experimental group increased to the instructional level. As a result of book reading activities, the reading level scores of the experimental group increased significantly compared to before the intervention, while there was a significant decrease in the control group. Based on these findings, the importance of providing book support to students living in disadvantaged areas to prevent summer reading loss and increasing book reading during the summer is strongly recommended
