Power distance is important for the healthy execution of relations, interactions, and communication between managers and employees. Low power distance improves the quality of relationships, interactions, and communication between school administrators and teachers, while high power distance decreases them. The power distance that teachers believe to exist in school may be related to their organizational attitude, value and behaviour. In this context, the aim of the study is to examine the relationships between teachers%252339%253B power distance beliefs and their organizational commitment and organizational trust. Research data were collected in Giresun, Turkey in 2018. The study group of the research consists of teachers working in public high schools. According to the results of the research, teachers%252339%253B power distance beliefs are at low level. There are positive correlations between teachers%252339%253B power distance beliefs and their organizational commitment and organizational trust. Teachers%252339%253B power distance beliefs predict their organizational commitment and organizational trust. The results of the research are thought to contribute to the awareness of the importance of power distance of school administrators in terms of manager-teacher interaction

States need education to raise not only citizens but also good citizens. Changes in the concept of citizenship from the past to the present have also been reflected in civic education. While in ancient Greece, the good citizen was identified with being virtuous in the Aristotelian sense, with the emergence of nation-states, the good citizen is now symbolized by a person who is aware of his%252Fher rights and responsibilities, devoted to his%252Fher homeland, and whose national feelings are developed. Textbooks, which are one of the most important carriers of this transformation, form the main axis of our research. Textbooks, which are the tools of educational programs that reflect the social, ideological, cultural, and mental character of countries, have a serious share in the mental development of students, the transformation of their self-existence, and the creation of their personalities. In this context, the role played by textbooks, especially civics textbooks, in raising moral generations can not be overlooked. The aim of this research is to evaluate the six citizenship-themed textbooks prepared between 1924 and 1945, based on the social, political, and cultural atmosphere of the period, and to examine the awareness and importance of citizenship through philosophical questioning. This research was conducted with a case study method from qualitative research designs. Since the time period of the research (1924-1945) was long, six of the civics textbooks obtained by the documentary screening model were selected by the purposive sampling method. Based on the content of these textbooks, categories were created. The examination of the categories shows that the meanings attributed to the concept of quot%253Bgoodquot%253B of the era in which the Civics Textbooks were written differ. However, in the textbooks examined in the research, there are also points that remain unchanged. It is understood that the students are expected to keep the concepts of land, homeland, and state above all else, and even willingly sacrifice their lives for them if necessary

    Get PDF
The main purpose of the study is to gain insight on to what extent taking a science methods course correlated with the science teaching pedagogical preferences of pre-service science teachers. The study recruited twenty K-8 teacher education students enrolled in lower division science courses at a large American public university, some of whom had completed a science methods course and some not. A sequential exploratory mixed-methods design involving both quantitative and qualitative parts was used. The quantitative data were collected using the POSTT assessment instrument to identify pedagogical orientations profiles of the participants. A subset of students was subsequently interviewed so that they could explain their responses to the POSTT items. The data points out that many participants whether they had taken a methods course or note tended toward an inquiry science teaching orientation. When participants chose similar instructional preferences, however, their reasons often varied. The data indicated that students having taken a methods course think more broadly about factors that should influence choices of instructional practice (e.g., grade level, prior knowledge, interest areas). The findings suggest that a science methods course can have a positive influence on pre-service teachers with respect to the development of an inquiry science teaching orientation. The POSTT items have potential use within science methods courses for the formative assessment of pre-service teachers orientations toward science instruction

    Get PDF
This study aims to reveal the critical Internet literacy levels of preservice teachers in terms of multiple variables, by employing the correlational survey design. The sample of the study is formed by 216 preservice teachers of Turkish language studying at a state university located in western Turkey. The Critical Internet Literacy Scale developed by Dal and Aktay (2015) was used as the data collection tool. The data obtained in the study were subjected to explanatory factor analysis, descriptive statistical analysis, t-test, ANOVA, and correlation analysis. It was found that the teacher candidates pay attention to online content reliability and websites being supported by proven data. The reliability of the online content emerges as the most important issue for preservice teachers. Their critical Internet literacy correlates with the location they spend their lives, their maternal educational background and maternal professional status, grade point averages, year of study, and the number of books they have read. The interest shown by Turkish people in anonymous information seems to apply for the Internet as well. Although the form of literacy has changed within the last 25 years since we began reading online, the answers that we can give to the questions of why and how we read seem to have remained the same, at least within the context of the current study
