A Social Media Analysis of the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon
Get PDFThe Tonight Show has been on TV since 1954 and Jimmy Fallon, new to the hosting position in 2014, needed a way to grab the attention of both the old hosts’ audience and also new millennial viewers. Turning to social media, which is vital to any contemporary business, Fallon has Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube to help set himself apart. With only a year in the spotlight, Fallon’s likes, retweets, favorites, shares, views, subscribers, and followers are higher than those of his competitors. With the many successes of The Tonight Show’s social media accounts, there are still opportunities to expand, nevertheless it is an excellent example of an effectively run social media campaign
Sleep Deprivation in Hospitalized Patients
Get PDFThis paper explores five published articles that report on research conducted about sleep deprivation in hospitalized patients. Many patients who spend the night in a hospital bed experience reduced quality of sleep due to various disruptions to sleep including alarms, staff noises and nurses doing care. Studies have shown that patients who are ill or are injured need an increase in sleep to speed up recovery time. Sleep quality restores function, promotes health, and provides a feeling of well-being. Sleep disturbances are associated with negative outcomes such as fatigue, negative moods, and disorientation. Many studies have shown that if nurses implement cluster care from 2200-0700 instead of typical routines there will be less sleep interruptions in older adult medical surgical patients. This literature review discusses many studies that were done to explore and describe patients sleep experiences and ways to improve the number of hours slept in hope to change the practice of night shift nurses

Professional Development Schools (PDS), Problems of Practice and Cluster Integration
No full textThis session will define PSU\u27s Holmes Center Problems of Practice model of professional development schools (PDS) and engage in dialogue on the opportunities it presents for Cluster integration and projects. Central to a PDS model is engagement by faculty across systems, meaning that in addition to traditional education faculty, a successful PDS draws on the collective expertise of ALL university faculty. When implemented from this ideological position, transformation of public schools is an attainable goal. PSU has the opportunity to be a first in the nation model of PDS because of our unique Cluster model of learning and guiding youth towards life readiness (rather than simply job readiness). This session will provide opportunities for interested faculty to generate topics that they would like the Holmes Center to consider and reflect upon with our PDS schools and school districts

Challenges and Successes: What You Need to Know About Your International Students
No full textInternational students transitioning to US higher education can face a number of challenges due to language limitations and cultural barriers. As a result, it is important to ensure that students feel supported both academically and socially, which will allow them to quickly assimilate to campus life. Failure to address these basic needs can result in poor academic outcomes and low retention. This session reports on findings from a needs assessment conducted at PSU to (a) assess the degree that PSU meets the needs of its international students and (b) identify areas where PSU can better support its international students. A total of 53 students and 57 faculty/staff participated in the study. Data collection measures included student and faculty/staff surveys, focus group interviews with undergraduate and graduate international students, and faculty/staff interviews
