    INTERROGATIVE SENTENCES IN TOBA BATAK LANGUAGE FROM A LINGUISTIC TYPOLOGY PERSPECTIVE: AN ANALYSIS BASED ON COMRIE AND PAYNE

    This study aims to describe the forms, functions, and typological characteristics of interrogative constructions in the Toba Batak language. The analysis employs a syntactic typology and functional construction approach, focusing on structural, morphological, and pragmatic strategies used by native speakers in daily communication. The data were collected through documentation and in-depth interviews with native speakers from the Samosir and Toba regions. The analysis was conducted using intralingual and distributional methods based on the theoretical framework of Sudaryanto (2015) and Payne (2006). The findings reveal that interrogative constructions in Toba Batak can be categorized into three main types: yes–no questions, partial questions, and rhetorical questions. Interrogative markers include particles such as ma, do, and na, as well as rising intonation patterns at the end of sentences. Additionally, word order inversion often occurs in partial interrogatives. Functionally, Toba Batak interrogatives are not limited to seeking information but also serve pragmatic purposes such as expressing requests, irony, or emotional emphasis. This research contributes to the linguistic documentation of local languages and provides valuable insight into Austronesian typology, especially in the grammatical description of regional languages in Indonesia. Kajian ini didasarkan pada pendekatan tipologi sintaksis dan konstruksi fungsional yang berfokus pada struktur, morfologi, serta strategi interogatif yang digunakan penutur Batak Toba dalam konteks komunikasi sehari-hari. Data penelitian diperoleh melalui metode dokumentasi dan wawancara mendalam dengan penutur asli di Kabupaten Samosir dan Toba. Analisis data dilakukan dengan teknik padan intralingual dan distribusional sesuai kerangka teori Sudaryanto (2015) dan Payne (2006). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kalimat interogatif Bahasa Batak Toba terbagi atas tiga bentuk utama, yaitu interogatif total, interogatif parsial, dan interogatif retoris. Penanda interogatif ditunjukkan melalui partikel seperti ma, do, dan na, serta melalui intonasi naik di akhir kalimat. Selain itu, ditemukan bahwa susunan kata dalam kalimat interogatif dapat mengalami inversi, terutama pada kalimat tanya parsial. Fungsi interogatif dalam Bahasa Batak Toba tidak hanya untuk memperoleh informasi, tetapi juga berfungsi pragmatis dalam menyatakan sindiran, permintaan, atau ekspresi emosional tertentu.     SEMIOTIKA SAUSSUREAN DALAM THE CATCHER IN THE RYE: IDENTITAS REMAJA DI ERA DIGITAL

    D. Salinger’s The Catcher in the Rye (1951) remains one of the most discussed novels in modern American literature. This study analyzes key symbols in J. D. Salinger’s The Catcher in the Rye using Saussurean semiotics and connects them to teenage identity in the digital era. Each symbol’s meaning changes depending on Holden Caulfield’s emotions and situations, reflecting Saussure’s view that meaning is relational and context-dependent. Qualitative textual analysis is used to examine how the relationship between signifier and signified shifts across symbols such as the red hunting hat, the ducks in the lagoon, the Museum of Natural History, and the carousel. The findings reveal that Holden’s search for authenticity in a “phony” world mirrors how modern teenagers construct and negotiate their identities through digital signs like social media profiles and online expressions. This study fills a gap in previous scholarship by linking classical semiotics with contemporary youth culture by showing how meaning-making in both literature and digital life depends on interpretation, difference, and social context. Salinger dengan menggunakan semiotika Saussurean serta menghubungkannya dengan identitas remaja di era digital. Makna setiap simbol berubah tergantung pada emosi dan situasi yang dialami Holden Caulfield, mencerminkan pandangan Saussure bahwa makna bersifat relasional dan bergantung pada konteks. Analisis tekstual kualitatif digunakan untuk meneliti bagaimana hubungan antara penanda (signifier) dan petanda (signified) bergeser dalam simbol-simbol seperti topi berburu merah, bebek di laguna, Museum Sejarah Alam, dan komidi putar. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pencarian Holden terhadap keaslian di dunia yang “palsu” mencerminkan cara remaja modern membangun dan menegosiasikan identitas mereka melalui tanda-tanda digital seperti profil media sosial dan ekspresi daring. Studi ini mengisi kesenjangan dalam penelitian sebelumnya dengan menghubungkan semiotika klasik dengan budaya remaja kontemporer, serta menunjukkan bahwa pembentukan makna dalam sastra maupun kehidupan digital bergantung pada interpretasi, perbedaan, dan konteks sosial.  Kata Kunci: semiotika Saussurean, The Catcher in the Rye, identitas remaja, era digital, simbolisme

    Thesis writing is one of the essential stages in completing undergraduate studies, including for students of the Sharia Economics Department. However, many students face linguistic challenges that affect the clarity and quality of the scientific work produced. This research seeks to uncover and examine the linguistic challenges present in the theses written by Sharia Economics students at the Parahikma Indonesia Institute. The method used is descriptive qualitative, employing documentation techniques on 21 thesis manuscripts as the sample. The findings indicate that errors in diction, sentence structure, paragraph coherence, and idea organization are the main challenges. These results highlight the need for more intensive and contextual academic writing training that aligns with the terminology used in sharia economics. Namun, banyak mahasiswa mengalami kendala dalam aspek kebahasaan, yang berdampak pada kejelasan dan kualitas karya ilmiah yang dihasilkan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi dan menganalisis kendala kebahasaan dalam skripsi mahasiswa Ekonomi Syariah di Institut ‘Aisyiyah Sulawesi Selatan. Metode yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif dengan teknik dokumentasi terhadap 21 naskah skripsi sebagai sampel. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kesalahan dalam diksi, struktur kalimat, koherensi paragraf, dan penyusunan gagasan menjadi kendala utama. Temuan ini menegaskan perlunya pembekalan penulisan ilmiah yang lebih intensif dan kontekstual sesuai dengan terminologi ekonomi syariah.     The Thematic Community Service Program (KKN) in Kauman Village, Mojokerto City, was implemented to address the low competitiveness of SMEs due to competition with modern retail. This program focuses on improving the packaging quality of bitter melon chips (kripik pare) as a strategy to strengthen branding and product attractiveness. The implementation method uses the Business Model Canvas (BMC), which includes consumer segmentation, value proposition, distribution channels, customer relations, and digital marketing strategies. Activities carried out include SME data collection, socialization, packaging design training, and product rebranding. The results show increased interest from SMEs in adopting modern packaging designs, the creation of new packaging that is more hygienic and informative, and broader marketing through social media and e-commerce. This innovation is expected to become a model for empowering SMEs through packaging innovation to enhance local economic independence

    THE SEMIOTICS MEANING OF BLUE, PINK, AND GREEN IN INDONESIAN DIGITAL PROTEST

    This study analyzes the symbolic meaning of the colors pink, blue, and green that appeared in digital demonstrations in Indonesia in 2025 using Charles Sanders Peirce's triadic semiotics approach. This approach views signs as a combination of three main elements: representamen (signs), objects (what is signified), and interpretants (the meanings produced). The research method uses qualitative analysis of posts and comments on social media that contain these color symbols. The results show that these colors not only function as visual elements, but also convey social, emotional, and ideological messages that develop dynamically according to the social and political context. Pink symbolizes women's courage, green symbolizes solidarity and justice for workers, while blue represents national consciousness and resistance. The combination of these three colors unites the meanings of courage, solidarity, and resistance as symbols of the people's struggle that lives on in Indonesia's culture of digital protest. This study provides a new perspective on the use of color as a dynamic and contextual medium of political communication in the digital age. Pendekatan ini memandang tanda sebagai kombinasi tiga unsur utama: representamen (tanda), objek (yang ditandakan), dan interpretan (makna yang dihasilkan). Metode penelitian menggunakan analisis kualitatif terhadap posting dan komentar di media sosial yang mengandung simbol-simbol warna tersebut. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa warna-warna ini tidak hanya berfungsi sebagai elemen visual, tetapi juga menyampaikan pesan-pesan sosial, emosional, dan ideologis yang berkembang secara dinamis sesuai dengan konteks sosial dan politik. Pink melambangkan keberanian perempuan, hijau melambangkan solidaritas dan keadilan bagi pekerja, sementara biru mewakili kesadaran nasional dan perlawanan. Kombinasi ketiga warna ini menyatukan makna keberanian, solidaritas, dan perlawanan sebagai simbol perjuangan rakyat yang terus hidup dalam budaya protes digital Indonesia.     This study aims to examine the influence of Job Burnout, Career Plateu, Job Satisfaction, and Employee Engagement on Turnover Intention at PT. Maha Sentral Sejati. The population in this study includes all employees of PT Maha Sentral Sejati, consisting of 10 office employees and 40 marketing employees, making a total population of 50 individuals. The sampling technique used is non-probability sampling by applying specific characteristics, also known as purposive sampling. The sample of this study was 50 people. The questionnaire was distributed using WhatsApp social media, and processed using SPSS tools. The results of the study showed that (1) work fatigue has a positive and significant effect on turnover intention. (2) career stagnation has a positive and significant effect on turnover intention. (3) job satisfaction has a positive and significant effect on turnover intention. (4) employee engagement has a positive and significant effect on turnover intention.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh Kelelahan Kerja, Kemacetan Karir, Kepuasan Kerja, dan Keterlibatan Karyawan terhadap Turnover intention  Karyawan yang dilakukan pada PT Maha Sentral Sejati. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh karyawan yang ada di PT. Maha Sentral Sejati yang terdiri dari 10 orang karyawan kantor dan 40 orang karyawan marketing. Jadi total populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah 50 orang. Teknik pengambilan sampel menggunakan teknik sampel jenuh dengan menggunakan seluruh anggota populasi sebagai sampel. Sampel penelitian ini sebanyak 50 orang. Kuisioner disebar menggunakan media sosial WhatsApp, dan diolah menggunakan alat bantu SPSS. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa (1) kelelahan kerja berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap turnover intention. (2) kamacetan karir berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap turnover intention. (3) kepuasan kerja berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap turnover intention. (4) keterlibatan karyawan berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap turnover intention.     Strategi Pengembangan Sumber Daya Manusia Pegawai: Studi pada Kelurahan Gunung Terang, Kota Bandar Lampung

    This study aims to analyze the human resource development (HRD) strategies implemented at the Gunung Terang Village Office, Bandar Lampung City, and to assess their contribution to improving employee professionalism and the quality of public services. A qualitative descriptive method was employed, with data collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving all village office employees. The findings reveal that HRD practices at the village office are limited to short-term technical training without support for structured formal education or a competency-based career development system. Although the training provided is relevant to employees’ tasks, it is conducted incidentally and lacks long-term planning, while job promotions are predominantly based on seniority due to the absence of a merit-based system. These conditions create a gap between HRD needs and the strategies currently implemented, resulting in limited strategic impact on bureaucratic quality improvement. This study recommends the formulation of a structured, sustainable HRD strategy grounded in needs analysis to ensure equal access to competency enhancement and to strengthen professionalism among village office personnel.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis strategi pengembangan sumber daya manusia (SDM) pada pegawai Kantor Kelurahan Gunung Terang, Kota Bandar Lampung, serta menilai kontribusinya terhadap peningkatan profesionalisme dan kualitas pelayanan publik. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data melalui observasi, wawancara mendalam, dan studi dokumentasi terhadap seluruh pegawai kelurahan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pengembangan SDM di kelurahan masih terbatas pada pelatihan teknis jangka pendek, tanpa dukungan pendidikan formal berjenjang dan sistem pengembangan karier berbasis kompetensi. Pelatihan yang dilaksanakan bersifat insidental tetapi relevan dengan tugas pelayanan, sementara promosi jabatan masih didominasi faktor senioritas akibat tidak adanya merit system. Temuan ini menunjukkan adanya kesenjangan antara kebutuhan pengembangan SDM dengan strategi yang diterapkan, sehingga peningkatan kapasitas pegawai belum memberikan dampak strategis terhadap kualitas birokrasi secara menyeluruh. Penelitian ini merekomendasikan penyusunan strategi pengembangan SDM yang terstruktur, berkelanjutan, dan berbasis analisis kebutuhan untuk memastikan pemerataan akses peningkatan kompetensi dan profesionalisme aparatur kelurahan

    This study aimed to understand the role of the Mojosari Village website in improving the efficiency of village administrative services and as a concrete manifestation of the implementation of good governance based on information and communication technology. The village website serves not only as an information medium but also as a means of providing faster, more transparent, and more accountable public services, thereby meeting the public's demands for modern and efficient administrative services. This study utilized Francis Fukuyama's theory of good governance as an analytical framework. In this theory, in addition to the Rule of Law aspect, two main indicators are used: Capacity and Autonomy. Capacity is defined as the village government's ability to provide optimal services to the community, while autonomy relates to the village government's level of independence in managing technology-based administration and service systems. The research method used was descriptive qualitative. Data were obtained through direct observation of the use of the village website and in-depth interviews with administrators and community members as service users. This approach enabled the researcher to describe the phenomenon in more detail and comprehensively regarding the implementation of e-government at the village level. The results showed that the Mojosari Village website has been able to create efficiency and effectiveness in administrative services. The public can access information and administrative services more easily, quickly, and transparently. Thus, it can be concluded that Mojosari Village has successfully utilized information technology to achieve good governance in accordance with the principles of capacity and autonomy proposed by Fukuyama.Penelitian ini disusun dengan tujuan untuk memahami peran website Desa Mojosari  dalam meningkatkan efisiensi pelayanan administrasi desa serta sebagai bentuk nyata penerapan tata kelola pemerintahan yang baik (good governance) berbasis teknologi informasi dan komunikasi. Kehadiran website desa tidak hanya berfungsi sebagai media informasi, tetapi juga sebagai sarana pelayanan publik yang lebih cepat, transparan, dan akuntabel, sehingga mampu menjawab tuntutan masyarakat akan pelayanan administrasi yang modern dan efisien. Sebagai kerangka analisis, penelitian ini menggunakan teori tata kelola pemerintahan yang baik menurut Francis Fukuyama. Dalam teori tersebut, selain aspek Rule of Law, terdapat dua indikator utama yang digunakan, yaitu Capacity (kapasitas) dan Autonomy (otonomi). Kapasitas dimaknai sebagai kemampuan pemerintah desa dalam memberikan pelayanan yang optimal kepada masyarakat, sedangkan otonomi berkaitan dengan tingkat kemandirian pemerintah desa dalam mengelola administrasi dan sistem pelayanan berbasis teknologi. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Data diperoleh melalui observasi langsung terhadap penggunaan website desa serta wawancara mendalam dengan pengelola dan masyarakat sebagai pengguna layanan. Pendekatan ini memungkinkan peneliti untuk menggambarkan fenomena secara lebih detail dan komprehensif mengenai penerapan e-government di tingkat desa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa website Desa Mojosari  telah mampu menciptakan efisiensi dan efektivitas pelayanan administrasi. Masyarakat dapat memperoleh informasi maupun layanan administrasi secara lebih mudah, cepat, dan terbuka. Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa Desa Mojosari  berhasil memanfaatkan teknologi informasi dalam mewujudkan tata kelola pemerintahan yang baik sesuai dengan prinsip kapasitas dan otonomi yang dikemukakan oleh Fukuyama

        English speaking ability is a key competency for hospitality students to meet the demands of the hospitality workforce both nationally and internationally. However, based on the results of initial observations and discussions with the Language Unit of Universitas Negeri Padang as a partner of the activity, it was found that most hospitality students still have difficulty in speaking English in the hospitality context and lack confidence to explore their abilities so that there are few opportunities to work abroad for graduates. Therefore, knowledge, mastery of communicative English communication in the hospitality world, especially in guest service situations such as the check-in and check-out process, handling customer complaints, providing facility information, and conducting professional communication in the hospitality environment are the main needs for hospitality students. With the collaboration of the PKM team of Universitas PGRI Sumatera Barat  with the Language Unit of Universitas Negeri Padang, a solution to the problems faced by Hospitality students is provided by providing speaking training in the hospitality context using Role-Play Technique. The role-play technique was chosen because it is able to simulate real communication situations that are relevant to the hospitality workforce, so that students not only learn language structures, but also practice English directly in a professional context.Kemampuan berbicara dalam bahasa Inggris merupakan kompetensi kunci bagi mahasiswa bidang hospitality untuk memenuhi tuntutan  dunia kerja perhotelan baik nasional  maupun internasional. Namun, berdasarkan hasil observasi awal dan diskusi dengan UPT Bahasa Universitas Negeri Padang sebagai mitra kegiatan, ditemukan bahwa sebagian besar mahasiswa hospitality masih mengalami kesulitan dalam berbicara bahasa Inggris dalam kontext perhotelan dan kurang  percaya diri untuk mengeksplor kemampuan mereka sehingga  kurangnya kesempatan bekerja ke luar negeri bagi para lulusan. Sehingga pengetahuan, penguasaan komunikasi berbahasa Inggris komunikatif dalam dunia perhotalan  khususnya dalam situasi pelayanan tamu seperti proses check-in dan check-out, menangani keluhan pelanggan, memberikan informasi fasilitas, serta melakukan komunikasi profesional di lingkungan hospitality menjadi kebutuhan utama bagi mahasiswa perhotelan. Dengan adanya kerjasama tim PKM Universitas PGRI Sumatera Barat dengan UPT Bahasa Universitas Negeri Padang memberikan solusi terhadap permasalahan yang dihadapi oleh mahasiswa Perhotelan dengan memberikan pelatihan berbicara dalam kontex perhotelan  menggunakan  Role-Play Technique .  Teknik role-play dipilih karena mampu mensimulasikan situasi komunikasi nyata yang relevan dengan dunia kerja perhotelan, sehingga mahasiswa tidak hanya mempelajari struktur bahasa, tetapi juga mempraktikkan bahasa Inggris secara langsung dalam konteks profesional
