    Verbal-visual evaluation in disaster reporting: Attitudinal analyses of hard news in The Jakarta Post

    Disaster news helps the public understand crisis events and is often presented as factual and objective because it is classified as hard news. However, disaster reports still contain evaluative elements that shape how events and social actors are perceived. These evaluations are expressed through both language and news photographs. This study examines how such evaluations are constructed in disaster reports from The Jakarta Post through the interaction between written texts and accompanying news photographs. The study draws on Appraisal Theory, as proposed by White and Martin within the framework of Systemic Functional Linguistics. It analyses attitude resources in hard news reporting, realised through verbal and visual modes, and their intersemiotic relations. The data consist of eleven hard news articles, purposively selected 2024 that meet specific inclusion criteria. Both verbal and visual elements were analysed qualitatively, supported by simple frequency counts to identify dominant patterns. The findings show 185 attitude instances distributed across three types. Negative appreciation is the most common (47%), followed by negative affect (24%). These are mainly used to show physical damage, loss, and human suffering. In contrast, positive judgment makes up 29% of the data and is used to present institutions, such as government agencies and rescue teams, as responsible and effective. News photographs support these meanings by showing destruction, danger, and humanitarian action. Across text and images, repetition and extension strengthen evaluative meanings and create a consistent viewpoint. The study shows that disaster reporting is evaluative and multimodal. Therefore, it highlights the need for critical multimodal literacy to understand how meaning is constructed through language and images

    Aplikasi Teknologi Satelit dalam Penanggulangan Bencana: Perspektif Sains Geospasial dan Resiliensi Nasional

    Climate change, geological activity, and environmental degradation have increased the number of natural disasters in recent years. To mitigate the social, economic, and infrastructure impacts, early disaster detection and mitigation are crucial. Real-time monitoring of geospatial phenomena such as forest fires, floods, and landslides is aided by satellite technology. Combining remote sensing technology with big data and artificial intelligence improves prediction accuracy and enhances rapid disaster response. In addition to disaster mitigation, satellite technology contributes to national resilience by monitoring geospatial threats and regional security, including border surveillance and cyber threat detection. The development of satellite technology in Indonesia faces constraints such as limited budget and human resources, but through strategic investment and collaboration, there is significant potential to increase its independence and resilience. Satellite technology is expected to strengthen national resilience and support sustainable development and public welfare in the face of global threats.Perubahan iklim, aktivitas geologi, dan kerusakan lingkungan telah meningkatkan jumlah bencana alam dalam beberapa tahun terakhir.  Untuk mengurangi efek sosial, ekonomi, dan kerusakan infrastruktur, deteksi dini dan mitigasi bencana sangat penting.  Pemantauan real-time fenomena geospasial seperti kebakaran hutan, banjir, dan pergerakan tanah dibantu oleh teknologi satelit.  Menggabungkan teknologi penginderaan jauh dengan big data dan kecerdasan buatan meningkatkan akurasi prediksi dan respons cepat terhadap bencana.  Selain mengurangi bencana, teknologi satelit membantu ketahanan nasional dengan memantau ancaman geospasial dan keamanan wilayah, termasuk pengawasan perbatasan dan deteksi ancaman siber. Pengembangan teknologi satelit di Indonesia menghadapi kendala seperti keterbatasan anggaran dan sumber daya manusia, tetapi melalui investasi dan kerja sama strategis, ada potensi besar untuk meningkatkan kemandirian dan ketahanannya.     Interest in learning is one of the crucial elements in science learning. Based on interviews conducted by researchers, students' interest in learning is still relatively low because the learning media used are less interesting and boring and the learning methods used tend to be monotonous. One solution that can be taken to foster interest in learning is by developing Adobe Animate-based learning media. The purpose of this study is to analyze the level of product validity and the level of readability test of Adobe Animate-based learning media with the theme of food around me in fostering learning interest in junior high school/Islamic junior high school students. The research method used is Research and Development (R&D) according to Borg and Gall which is modified according to the needs of researchers which is limited to the design validation stage until product revision. The instruments used are assessment sheets for media experts, material experts and practitioners as well as readability test sheets. The study was conducted in 2 junior high schools and 1 Islamic junior high school in Cilegon City. Data were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. The validation results showed that this learning media obtained a score of 90.45% with a "very valid" category. The results of the readability test were 95.73% in the "very good" category. This shows that the Adobe Animate-based learning media with the theme of food around me is considered very valid for fostering the learning interest of junior high school/Islamic junior high school students.Minat belajar merupakan salah satu unsur krusial dalam pembelajaran (IPA). Berdasarkan wawancara yang dilakukan peneliti, minat belajar siswa masih tergolong rendah dikarenakan media pembelajaran yang digunakan kurang menarik dan membosankan serta metode pembelajaran yang digunakan cenderung monoton. Salah satu solusi yang dapat ditempuh untuk menumbuhkan minat belajar yaitu dengan mengembangkan media pembelajaran berbasis adobe animate. Tujuan penelitian ini ialah untuk menganalisis tingkat validitas produk serta tingkat uji keterbacaan media pembelajaran berbasis adobe animate tema makanan di sekelilingku dalam menumbuhkan minat belajar siswa SMP/MTs. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah Research and Development (R&D) menurut Borg and Gall yang dimodifikasi sesuai dengan kebutuhan peneliti yang dibatasi pada tahapan validasi desain sampai revisi produk. Instrumen yang digunakan yaitu lembar penilaian uji ahli media, ahli materi dan praktisi serta lembar uji keterbacaan. Penelitian dilakukan di 2 SMP dan 1 Mts di Kota Cilegon. Data dianalisis secara kuantitatif dan kualitatif. Hasil validasi menunjukkan bahwa media pembelajaran ini memperoleh skor sebesar 90,45% dengan kategori “sangat valid”. Adapun hasil dari uji keterbacaan yaitu sebesar 95,73% pada kategori “sangat baik”. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa media pembelajaran berbasis adobe animate tema makanan di skelilingku dinilai sudah sangat valid untuk menumbuhkan minat belajar siswa SMP/MTs

    Peta Pengetahuan Penelitian Deforestasi dan Bencana di Indonesia: Analisis Bibliometrik dan Implikasi Transformasi Digital

    Indonesia's forests play a strategic role in maintaining ecosystem balance, but increasing deforestation and land degradation have increased the risk of environmental disasters, particularly flooding in Sumatra. As scientific attention has increased, research on Indonesian forests has grown rapidly but remains multidisciplinary and fragmented. This study aims to map the knowledge structure, thematic dynamics, and patterns of global collaboration in deforestation and disaster research in Indonesia, and to examine the integration of digital transformation into these studies. This study uses a descriptive quantitative approach through bibliometric analysis of 175 Scopus-indexed journal articles extracted using the keyword "Indonesian forest." The analysis was conducted using VOSviewer to map keyword co-occurrence and author collaboration by country, and to interpret the role of digital technologies such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS), remote sensing, and spatial analysis. The analysis shows that deforestation and forest fires are dominant themes closely related to disaster risk, air pollution, and health impacts. Digital technologies, particularly remote sensing and GIS, have become key methodological components in forest cover monitoring, carbon emission analysis, and flood-prone area mapping in Sumatra. Indonesia occupies a central position in global collaboration networks, with strong involvement from countries with high technological capacity, although the use of predictive and early warning systems remains relatively limited. The novelty of this research lies in the integration of bibliometric analysis with disaster and digital transformation perspectives, linking the thematic structure of research, international collaboration patterns, and their implications for flood mitigation in Sumatra. These findings provide important contributions to the development of forestry research and policy, and the strengthening of digital transformation in forest management and disaster risk reduction in Indonesia.Hutan Indonesia memiliki peran strategis dalam menjaga keseimbangan ekosistem, namun deforestasi dan degradasi lahan yang meningkat telah memperbesar risiko bencana lingkungan, khususnya banjir di wilayah Sumatra. Seiring meningkatnya perhatian ilmiah terhadap isu tersebut, penelitian mengenai Indonesian forest berkembang pesat tetapi bersifat multidisipliner dan terfragmentasi. Penelitian ini bertujuan memetakan struktur pengetahuan, dinamika tematik, dan pola kolaborasi global dalam penelitian deforestasi dan bencana di Indonesia, serta mengkaji integrasi transformasi digital dalam kajian tersebut. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif deskriptif melalui analisis bibliometrik terhadap 175 artikel jurnal terindeks Scopus yang diekstraksi menggunakan kata kunci “Indonesian forest”. Analisis dilakukan dengan VOSviewer untuk memetakan ko-okurensi kata kunci dan kolaborasi penulis berdasarkan negara (co-author country), serta menginterpretasikan peran teknologi digital seperti GIS (Geographic Information System) penginderaan jauh dan analisis spasial. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa deforestasi dan kebakaran hutan merupakan tema dominan yang berkaitan erat dengan risiko bencana, polusi udara, dan dampak kesehatan. Teknologi digital, khususnya penginderaan jauh dan GIS, telah menjadi komponen metodologis utama dalam pemantauan tutupan hutan, analisis emisi karbon, dan pemetaan wilayah rawan banjir di Sumatra. Indonesia menempati posisi sentral dalam jejaring kolaborasi global, dengan keterlibatan kuat negara-negara berkapasitas teknologi tinggi, meskipun pemanfaatan sistem prediktif dan peringatan dini masih relatif terbatas. Kebaruan penelitian ini terletak pada integrasi analisis bibliometrik dengan perspektif kebencanaan dan transformasi digital, dengan mengaitkan struktur tematik penelitian, pola kolaborasi internasional, dan implikasinya terhadap mitigasi banjir di Sumatra.     Sosialisasi Modul Deteksi Ikan Di Kelompok Nelayan Kota Bengkulu Untuk Peningkatan Hasil Tangkapan Nelayan

    Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan meningkatkan hasil tangkapan nelayan tradisional di Kota Bengkulu melalui penerapan Modul Deteksi Ikan. Alat ini dirancang menggunakan kamera digital dengan sistem pencahayaan khusus yang mampu beroperasi hingga kedalaman 20 meter, memungkinkan deteksi ikan secara real-time. Kelompok sasaran merupakan nelayan pesisir Kota Bengkulu yang selama ini mengandalkan pengalaman tradisional, mengakibatkan hasil tangkapan tidak konsisten dan biaya operasional yang tinggi. Melalui teknologi ini diharapkan dapat meningkatkan efisiensi dan produktivitas tangkapan. Metode pelaksanaan meliputi empat tahap: (1) perancangan modul, (2) perakitan sistem, (3) pengujian alat, dan (4) penerapan langsung di lapangan dengan pendampingan teknis oleh tim dosen dan mahasiswa Teknik Elektro. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa modul yang dikembangkan berhasil menjadi solusi teknologi tepat guna yang dapat meningkatkan hasil tangkapan sekaligus membangun literasi digital di kalangan nelayan tradisional.     This research aime to describe the relationship of education in the context of cultural dynamics, the relationship between education and social change, as well as the factors that cause it and to explain the impact of socio-cultural changes on education. The method applied is literature research by utilizing sources on culture from creativity, feelings, and intentions, education driver of change, and social changes caused by globalization, technology, demographics, values, and cultural acculturation.. Data collection is carried out by obtaining information from explanations about cultural theory, education, digital technology, and social dynamics as well as using a literature review. The data analysis technique is carried out by reorganizing information, linking concepts, and emphasizing the relationship between education, culture, and social change. The research results show that education is influenced by culture, economicsPenelitiaan ini bertujuan untuk menguraikan hubungan pendidikan dalam konteks dinamika kebudayaan, hubungan antara Pendidikan dan perubahan sosial, serta faktor faktor yang menyebabkannya dan menguraikan dampak dari perubahan sosial budaya terhadap pendidikan. Metode yang diterapkan adalah penelitian literatur dengan memanfaatkan sumber tentang kebudayaan dari cipta, raza, dan karsa, pendidikan sebagai penggerak perubahan, serta perubahan sosial yang diakibatkan oleh globalisasi, teknologi, demografi, nilai-nilai, dan akulturasi budaya. Metode pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan cara memperoleh informasi dari penjelasan mengenai teori kebudayaan, pendidikan, teknologi digital. dan dinamika sosial serta menggunakan tinjauan pustaka (literature review). Teknik analisis data dilaksanakan dengan menyusun kembali informasi, mengaitkan konsep, serta menekankan hubungan antara pendidikan, budaya, dan perubahan sosial. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pendidikan dipengaruhi oleh budaya, ekonomi, politik, teknologi, demografi, agama, globalisasi, dan perubahan sosial.     The Access By KAI application, developed by PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero), allows users to purchase train tickets via mobile devices. This study aims to perform sentiment analysis on user reviews of the Access By KAI application using the naive Bayes algorithm. Data processing was carried out through stages such as case folding, cleaning, tokenizing, stopword removal, and stemming, and evaluation using metrics of accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score showed that the naive Bayes algorithm provides satisfactory results. The study results indicate that the naive Bayes algorithm is able to classify reviews with an accuracy rate of up to 68% with a precision of 83% for the positive class, 59% for the negative class, and 79% for the neutral class; recall of 67% for the positive class, 93% for the negative class, and 42% for the neutral class.     Implementasi Sistem Verifikasi dan Pengenalan Wajah Berbasis YOLOv8n dan VGG-Face untuk Absensi Perkuliahan

    This research presents the development of a facial recognition and verification system that aims to address attendance record falsification in university lectures, a persistent challenge in non-biometric attendance management. The proposed framework integrates the efficiency of YOLOv8n for facial detection with the strong feature representation capability of VGG-Face. The system applies image augmentation to create varied facial embeddings, uses Cosine Similarity for identity verification, and evaluates its performance through accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-Score metrics. Experimental evaluations on student facial datasets captured under different lighting conditions, poses, and viewing angles show that the system achieves a stable accuracy of around 90 % without augmentation, increasing to 97 % with augmentation, which enhances overall stability and reliability.     PENGARUH COMPLIANCE IMAGE, KUALITAS PRODUK, DAN KUALITAS PELAYANAN TERHADAP KEPUASAN PELANGGAN SERTA IMPLIKASINYA TERHADAP LOYALITAS PELANGGAN GARAM NaCl PT. X

    PT. X is a domestic pharmaceutical manufacturer producing pharmaceutical raw materials, specifically sodium chloride (NaCl) with a purity level ranging from 99.0% to 100.5%. The government’s pharmaceutical self-sufficiency program has intensified competition, prompting the need to evaluate factors influencing customer loyalty. This study aims to examine the effects of compliance image, product quality, and service quality on customer satisfaction and their implications for customer loyalty toward PT. X’s NaCl products. A quantitative research approach was employed, and the data were analyzed using SEM-PLS (SmartPLS). The results indicate that compliance image does not significantly affect customer satisfaction (p = 0.143), while product quality has a significant effect (p = 0.000). Service quality does not significantly affect customer satisfaction (p = 0.337). Furthermore, compliance image (p = 0.552) and service quality (p = 0.212) do not significantly influence customer loyalty. Product quality, however, has a significant effect on customer loyalty (p = 0.000). Indirect effect analysis shows that customer satisfaction mediates only the relationship between product quality and customer loyalty (p = 0.029), indicating a partial mediation effect. These findings suggest that product quality is the primary determinant of both customer satisfaction and loyalty. Therefore, PT. X should prioritize maintaining and enhancing product quality while continuing to strengthen compliance image and service quality as part of its business strategy to retain and expand its existing customer base.PT. X merupakan industri dalam negeri yang mampu memproduksi bahan obat. Bahan baku obat tersebut adalah garam NaCl dengan kadar 99,0% sampai 100,5%. Program kemandirian kefarmasian yang dibuat pemerintah mendorong munculnya pesaing bagi PT. X. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk menguji pengaruh compliance image, kualitas produk, kualitas pelayanan terhadap kepuasan pelanggan serta implikasinya terhadap loyalitas pelanggan garam NaCl PT. X. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif. Data diolah dan dianalisis menggunakan SEM SmartPLS. Dari hasil data yang didapat menunjukkan compliance image tidak berpengaruh signifikan terhadap kepuasan pelanggan (p-value= 0,143). Kualitas produk berpengaruh signifikan terhadap kepuasan pelanggan (p-value= 0,000). Kualitas pelayanan tidak berpengaruh signifikan terhadap kepuasan pelanggan (p-value= 0,337). Kepuasan pelanggan tidak berpengaruh signifikan terhadap loyalitas pelanggan (p-value= 0,005). Compliance image tidak berpengaruh signifikan terhadap loyalitas pelanggan (p-value= 0,552). Kualitas produk berpengaruh yang signifikan terhadap loyalitas pelanggan (p-value= 0,000). Kualitas pelayanan tidak berpengaruh signifikan terhadap loyalitas pelanggan (p-value= 0,212). Dari hasil uji indirect effect kepuasan pelanggan hanya mampu mengimplikasi kualitas produk terhadap loyalitas pelanggan (p-value= 0,029), dan tidak memiliki efek implikasi terhadap pengaruh compliance image dan kualitas pelayanan. Dari hasil analisis data didapat kualitas produk memiliki efek parsial terhadap loyalitas pelanggan melalui kepuasan pelanggan, namun compliance image dan kualitas pelayanan tidak berpengaruh signifikan terhadap kepuasan pelangga

    RESILIENSI ARSITEKTUR MASJID PASCA-BENCANA : KAJIAN PERAN MASJID SEBAGAI PUSAT MITIGASI BENCANA DI KOTA PALU

    Palu City is one of the areas with a high level of disaster risk, particularly earthquakes, tsunamis, and liquefaction. The disaster on September 28, 2018, revealed that mosques, besides functioning as places of worship, also play a crucial role in social life and serve as emergency shelters. This study aims to examine the potential of mosques as disaster mitigation centers by assessing community emotional attachment, accessibility, supporting facilities, as well as building design and safety. A mixed-method approach was employed through in-depth interviews and Likert-scale surveys with six respondents who were survivors sheltered in the Baiturrahim Grand Mosque, Palu. The findings indicate that the community’s social and emotional attachment to mosques is very strong, yet significant weaknesses remain in emergency facilities and evacuation signage. Meanwhile, the mosque structure is perceived as relatively strong and ready to serve as a temporary shelter. These results highlight the importance of strengthening the technical capacity of mosques through the provision of emergency facilities, basic logistics, and clear information systems, so that their role as disaster mitigation centers can be more effective in the future.Kota Palu merupakan salah satu wilayah dengan tingkat kerawanan bencana tinggi, khususnya gempa bumi, tsunami, dan likuifaksi. Peristiwa 28 September 2018 menunjukkan bahwa masjid, selain berfungsi sebagai ruang ibadah, juga memiliki peran vital dalam kehidupan sosial dan sebagai lokasi perlindungan darurat. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menilai potensi masjid sebagai pusat mitigasi bencana dengan meninjau keterikatan emosional masyarakat, aspek aksesibilitas, ketersediaan fasilitas pendukung, serta desain dan keamanan bangunan. Metode penelitian menggunakan pendekatan campuran melalui wawancara mendalam dan survei dengan skala Likert pada enam responden yang merupakan penyintas bencana di Masjid Agung Baiturrahim Lolu, Palu. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa keterikatan sosial dan emosional masyarakat terhadap masjid sangat tinggi, namun masih terdapat kelemahan signifikan pada aspek fasilitas darurat dan petunjuk evakuasi. Sementara itu, struktur bangunan masjid dinilai cukup kokoh dan relatif siap sebagai tempat pengungsian. Temuan ini menegaskan pentingnya penguatan kapasitas teknis masjid melalui penyediaan fasilitas evakuasi, logistik dasar, serta sistem informasi yang jelas, agar peran masjid sebagai pusat mitigasi bencana dapat lebih optimal di masa mendatan
