Evaluation of relationship between lower urinary tract symptoms and metabolic syndromes and QOL in workers
Get PDF本研究の目的は、就労者の下部尿路症状、メタボリックシンドロームおよびQOLとの関連について明らかにすることである。下部尿路症状やQOL、メタボリックシンドロームを明らかにする質問紙を作成し、就労者に配布した。質問紙を831 配布し、587（回収率70.6％）を回収し、582（有効回答率70.0％）を分析対象とした。就労者の下部尿路症状として男性では、尿意切迫感、残尿感、尿勢低下を、女性では、尿意切迫感、尿勢低下、腹圧性尿失禁を訴える人が多かった。メタボリックシンドローム該当者は男性17 名（3.5％）であり、非該当者と比較して夜間頻尿、尿勢低下、膀胱痛の症状を訴える人が有意に多かった。就労者が最も困る下部尿路症状は、男性では、残尿感、夜間頻尿、女性では腹圧性尿失禁であり、最もQOLが低かった症状は男性では膀胱痛、女性では腹圧性尿失禁だった。The purpose of this study is to clarify the relationship between workers’ lower urinary tract symptoms, metabolic syndrome and quality of life. A questionnaire to clarify lower urinary tract symptoms, quality of life, metabolic syndrome was prepared and distributed. The questionnaires were distributed 831 and 587 （return rate 70.6%） were collected, then 582 （effective response rate 70.0%）were analyzed. As the symptoms of male workers lower urinary tract, there were complains of urgency, feeling of incomplete emptying, slow stream, and as for female were urgency, slow stream, stress urinary incontinence. There were 17 males （3.5%） of metabolic syndrome, and were significantly more complained of symptoms of nocturia, slow stream, bladder pain comparing with non-metabolic syndrome people. The most troublesome lower urinary tract symptoms were feelings of residual urine, nocturia in male workers, and stress urinary incontinence in female workers. Hisaye Yamamoto as a Pioneer Japanese American Writer
Get PDFHisaye Yamamotoʼs works have been widely read particularly since the publication of Seventeen Syllables and Other Stories, a collection of her works in 1988. Most of the reviews and studies about her have mainly focused on the significance of gender, Japanese American culture and hybrid identity. However, it should be noted that many recent studies on Yamamoto have shifted to an analysis of an interracial solidarity in her works. One such work is “The Eskimo Connection.” Although it has not been fully examined by scholars, a reading of“ The Eskimo Connection” will surely lead us to recognize that Yamamoto had a sharp insight into the possibilities and limits of interracial and interethnic relationships among US minorities. The aim of this paper is to point out the significance of“ The Eskimo Connection” by comparing it with Cynthia Kadohataʼs Weedflower and to examine Yamamotoʼs influence on such a postmodern writer as Kadohata.
“The Eskimo Connection” and Weedflower are similar in that they deal with relationships between Japanese Americans and Native Americans. “The Eskimo Connection” （1983） is a fictional narrative about correspondence between a young incarcerated Native American man, Alden, and an older Japanese American woman, Emiko. Although Emiko is, at first, hesitant to respond to Alden when he asks her to give him some comments on an essay he has written, she finally decides to answer his request, and starts a two-year correspondence with him. Emiko begins to understand his inner sufferings and to sympathize with him because his situation reminds her of her internment experience during World War II.
Kadohataʼs Weedflower （2006） is set at Poston internment camp during World War II. Sumiko, a 12-year-old Nisei girl, happens to meet Frank, a Mohave boy, at the camp. At first they both feel anger toward each other, until Sumiko learns from Frank that Native Americans have been denied civil rights like Japanese Americans. Subsequently they begin to feel empathy with each other when they come to know that Japanese Americans and Native Americans share a common history of losing their lives and their places in society because of racism.
Although the two stories were published more than twenty years apart, there appear to be deep resonances between Yamamoto and Kadohata. Both show that coalitional relationships across racial lines are sometimes necessary, but at the same time they also suggest that there exist social boundaries and restrictions which are difficult to overcome because Japanese Americans and Native Americans have different histories and different social locations in American society. “The Eskimo Connection” definitely reveals that Yamamoto predicted the limitations of cross-racial collaborations in contemporary multiracial America.departmental bulletin pape

The scene selection of the folding screens selected a lot from Tosa school’s traditional figure, it was summarized by Tosa Mitsuyoshi through Tosa Mitsunobu from the fan papers of Muromachi period. And there is actively selecting scenes preferred by Tosa Mitsunori and Sumiyoshi Jyokei.
Although this does not belong to the Tosa school mainstream, it is an artist who was in the Tosa faction or around the Sumiyoshi school, and it could be an artist who was able to learn those figures.departmental bulletin pape
Physical Characteristics and Palatability of Waxy-Barley Pound Cake
Get PDFWe prepared samples of pound cake by substituting soft wheat flour with waxy barley flour, a rich source of water-soluble dietary fiber, at levels of 0（control）, 25, 50, 75, and 100% to examine their physical and sensory characteristics. As the results, no marked difference was found among these samples in terms of weight and height, but the volume of the samples increased by 1.2-fold at 100% substitution. The sensory evaluation showed that the higher the substitution level, the lower the ratings. Because of the distinctive aroma and flavor of waxy barley flour, the test samples failed to receive sensory ratings comparable with those of the control sample, although participants reported the waxy-barley pound cake as tasty when asked in an openresponse format. In conclusion, pound cake prepared with waxy barley flour is likely to receive lower ratings for sensory attributes than cake made with 100% soft wheat flour, due to its distinctive aroma and flavor; however, considering its palatability, unique texture, and dietary fiber content, waxy-barley pound cake can be enjoyed as a tasty snack that could be beneficial for the prevention of lifestyle-related diseases. Further investigation is needed to improve the sensory quality of waxy-barley pound cake.departmental bulletin pape
