A Study on Underwear That Is Visible through Clothing : Product development for private brand
Currently, in the women’s underwear market, there is demand for high-value-added products with functionality even if the prices are somewhat high. However, there is also a growing trend of selective consumption that balances savings and luxury. Promoting functionality is a critical concept in product development, along with considering attractive designs (colors, shapes, and materials). Company A, which runs underwear specialty stores, plans to develop underwear in colors that are not visible through clothing as part of its original brand products for the next spring and summer seasons. At Company A’s request, we collected experimental data on underwear that is visible through clothing and provided some advice for developing their new main products for the 2025 spring and summer seasons. In the experiments, we placed forty pieces of cotton twill fabric with different colors under four types of white shirts to measure the colors using a color chromatometer. And we conducted sensory tests to identify colors that are difficult to see through clothing under fluorescent light and artificial sunlight. We also performed a questionnaire survey and found that most of the subjects were worried about their underwear being visible through their clothing. We found that developing products with colors and materials that are difficult to see through clothing is a practical approach to meeting customer needs. Furthermore, the interview survey results revealed that developing underwear that combines functionality and aesthetics plays an essential role in positioning original brands. Company A comprehensively reviewed the results of the experiments in this study and then developed bras and panties that reflected the results. The garments were produced in the colors it refers to as “mushroom,” “coral,” and “smoky purple.”departmental bulletin pape
Effects of a 10-week Aerobic Exercise Intervention Program on Glycation Markers in Young Women
This study evaluated the effects of a 10-week aerobic exercise intervention on skin advanced glycation end products (AGEs), glycemic control, and stress hormones in young women. Participants performed bicycle exercise twice weekly for 10 weeks. Levels of skin AGEs, blood glucose, glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), and salivary cortisol were measured pre- and postintervention. Although the levels of skin AGEs did not significantly change, the levels of HbA1c, an indicator of glycemic control, significantly declined, suggesting the positive impact of exercise on glucose metabolism. Salivary cortisol levels exhibited a declining trend, albeit without statistical significance. These findings highlight the potential benefits of short-term exercise for glycemic control and underscore the need for further studies on long-term interventions to reduce the levels of skin AGEs.departmental bulletin pape
Determinants of Organic Agriculture Adoption in Taiwan : A Machine Learning Approach with Methodological Comparison
This study examines the determinants of organic agriculture adoption in Taiwan, employing machine learning techniques to analyze both internal motivations and farm characteristics. Using data from the "Social and Cultural Survey of Rural Taiwan" conducted in 2019 with supplementary data from 2021, we apply Lasso and Elastic Net regression models to identify key predictors of farmers' willingness to transition to organic agriculture. Our analysis suggests that environmental beliefs may have causal effects on adoption intentions, though important methodological limitations should be considered. The empirical analysis reveals that while formal education levels do not significantly influence adoption decisions, access to agricultural information through expert consultation and internet use plays a crucial role. Complex land tenure arrangements emerge as a significant barrier to organic transition, suggesting the importance of institutional factors in adoption decisions. The Elastic Net model with Bayesian Information Criterion offers one approach to handling high-dimensional data while maintaining interpretability, though different methods may be appropriate depending on research objectives and data characteristics. Additionally, this study explicitly compares the results of the machine learning approach with those of Chang (2025), who applied a principal component factoring (PCF) and multinomial logit analysis to the same dataset, highlighting the methodological differences and the policy implications of each. The comparative analysis offers robust evidence regarding the common and distinct drivers of organic agriculture adoption revealed by both analytical frameworks. The findings provide insights that may be relevant for policymakers in Taiwan, though generalization to other contexts would require careful consideration of local agricultural, institutional, and cultural differences.departmental bulletin pape
Diversity - and fairness-aware market segmentation using machine learning with profit maximization
In recent years, considering diversity—such as gender and race—has become an essential issue in society. In various aspects of business management, including marketing, neglecting such considerations may necessitate a revision of strategies and can even lead to a decline in corporate brand image. However, it remains unclear how segmentation and targeting can be conducted while ensuring diversity. Meanwhile, in the field of machine learning, fairness-aware approaches have long been proposed, developed, and studied. This research addresses the above-mentioned challenges by applying fairness-aware machine learning to segmentation, thereby ensuring diversity, evaluating it, and ultimately optimizing marketing strategies. To validate this approach, we applied it to data and confirmed its effectiveness. We expect that this study will provide a novel perspective on incorporating diversity considerations into marketing practices.departmental bulletin pape
