Examining the Role of RFID Technology on SCM Effectiveness, Case: Food industry of Iran
Taking advantage of the new technology, supply chain has already created a chain of cooperation among its own Companies, and, in a larger scale, within a universal environment. Superior to these technologies is RFID which is an abbreviation for Radio Frequency Identification. RFID is one of the most advanced technologies in the contemporary world. Perishable products and hose with short time expiry particularly food products bring about many challenges and problems for the supply chain managers. Such challenges are mostly due to variety in the number of products, especial need for keeping track of the products during the supply chain process, their short term expiry; need to control their temperature during the supply chain process, and their high quantity. Using RFID is one of the best possible ways that can help managers deal with logistical problems of perishable products. In food industry, storage level is generally low because of a high possibility of expiry. Today, changes in methods of production, distribution, maintenance and sale of food products have led to some changes in the demand of consumers for higher quality as well as greater longevity of food products. In order for more confidence in desirable packing in supply chain of food products, such innovations as smart packaging or active packaging have achieved popularity
Survival of the Print Book! The Falsifiability Approach towards an Inductive Belief
Looks at the historical and philosophical roots of the reasoning and defines the induction as the most popular style of reasoning. Discusses the problem of induction and its complexities through an example. Explains one of the solutions provided for the problem of induction; i.e. the falsifiability theory. Defines the falsifiability theory and concentrates on an ongoing argument among information professionals. Survival of the print book, as an inductive belief, is what this article tries to analyze and gauge. Through an all-inclusive literature review, viewpoints of the pros and cons of this inductive belief are discussed; and much number of evidences is provided for the death of the print book. Concludes that the survival of the print book belief is falsified and liberal information professionals should be trained to press e-book publishers to develop their products
Information Literacy in Distance Education Universities in Iran: a Case Study of Payame Noor University
Teaching information literacy needs to become a core activity at academic libraries in distance education universities. Innovative programs have been developed to promote information literacy to ensure students success as lifelong learners. This study has been done to evaluate information literacy of students of humanities in Payame Noor University of Mashhad. The research population subjects are M.A. students in the humanities departments of Payame Noor University of Mashhad, from whom 188 were selected randomly based on Krejcie and Morgan table. Data collecting tool is a questionnaire, which has been provided according to Information Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education. The results revealed that there is a significant difference between the female students’ information literacy with average score (t= -10.45, df= 159, p< 0.0005), the male students’ information literacy with average score (t= 4.71, df= 27, p< 0.0005), and all students’ information literacy with average score (t= -11.42, df= 187, p< 0.0005). The questionnaire average score (26) is more than students’ score, although the information literacy level in female and male students had no significant difference (t= -0.520, df=186, p=0.604). There is a significant difference in information literacy of students with different majors (f (12, 175) = 2.803, p= 0.002).Developing information literacy skills is essential for academic members and other educational staff to be able to fully engage and exploit library resources in distance education system. Distance education programs are complex and costly to implement, which suggests that they are a valuable asset for universities and therefore should be adequately managed and protected. Libraries must sufficiently promote services available to distance students and provide adequate service hours. In order to provide effective support to distance learners, librarians and educators need to be creative and find unique solutions
Online Journals Influence amongst Iranian Universities
Ranking is one of the key measures for evaluating universities. Progress of research at universities is often measured by the rate of its publications. It is also common knowledge in the field of research that journal publications owe their success to their impact factor. However, one of the contributing factors that affect a journal's impact factor is the accessibility and availability of its content. The law of statistics suggests that publishing an electronic version of the journal content through online publications is likely to boost the visibility of a journal; hence, improving the impact factor. The ability to publish electronically is often received favorably by the research community. Despite advances in electronic journal publishing, only recently, online journals have made their way into Iranian university journal publishing. This paper evaluates and reports on the extent of online journal publications among Iranian universities. For the purposes of this study, 653 journals published by 183 universities were studied. The results reveal that 66.7% of all universities have online copies of their journals. This study is carried out for three categories of universities; the Ministry of Health and medical Education universities, the Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology universities(MSRT), and Islamic Azad University Branches(IAU)
A Practical Implementation of ISMS
Nowadays, access to reliable information has become an essential factor leading to success in business. In this regard, adequate security of information and systems that process it is critical to the operation of all organizations. Therefore organizations must understand and improve the current status of their information security in order to ensure business continuity and increase rate of return on investments. Since, information security has a very important role in supporting the activities of the organization and for this reason; it is needed to have a standard or benchmark which controls governance over information security. Hence, this paper discusses some of Information Security Management System (ISMS) standards in order to determine their strengths and challenges. Then, based on most appropriate standards in the field, a method is proposed to allow information technology-related or based enterprises to implement their ISMS. This method helps identifying critical assets and related threats and vulnerabilities, assessing assets risks and providing necessary risk treatment plans. The proposed method makes it possible and structured to establish information security management system in IT related large-scale enterprises
An Analysis of the Availability and Persistence of Web Citations in Iranian LIS Journals
To discover the current situation and characteristics of web citations accessibility, the present study examined the accessibility of 4,253 web citations in six key Iranian LIS journals published from 2006 to 2010. The proportion percentage of web citations increased from 11% in 2006 to 30% in 2010. The most widely cited top level domains in URLs include the .edu and .org with respectively 37% and 23%. This study provides further evidence that organizations websites have become increasingly vulnerable to URL decay. The results show that only 3467 web citations remain accessible in 2011, of which 71% allowed easy and long-term access to the authors’ information intended in URLs. Long time inaccessibility to the authors’ intended information was shown to be mostly from URLs that returned the 404 error and also the URLs that had gone through information update. An about 4 year half-life was estimated for Iran’s LIS Publications. Ultimately, the results suggest that the decay of URLs is a grave problem in the publication of Iran’s LIS researchers and cannot be overlooked. These authors need to gain the necessary knowledge about using web citations as major sources of information for their publications
A Survey of Scientific Publication by the Islamic Azad University from Beginning to February 2013
The goal of this paper is evaluation of published scientific documents of Islamic Azad University (IAU) in WOS from the beginning until Feb. 2013. The method of this study was extracting of all published IAU documents that have been indexed in WOS in all field of Science, Social Science and Art & Humanity. Research findings show that in this period, 18398 scientific documents have been published by IAU that is about 12.42% of Iran’s total published scientific documents from 1956 until the present time. Clustering of the journals based on topic indicated that 22.72% of documents are related to Chemistry, 14.45% related to Engineering Sciences, and 8.92% published in Physics. The increasing number of IAU documents from Jan. 1999 until Feb. 2013 is significant. In 2012, the IAU reached the first position of scientific documents production among all Iranian universities. Most scientific collaborations of IAU in scientific publication have been with US, followed by Malaysia, England, Germany, Turkey, and Australia. More than 4700 IAU documents have been published in 37 journals, 8 of them lack or have a poor peer-review process. At the end, a number of suggestions for increasing quality of IAU’s scientific documents have been offered
The Study of the Main Characteristics of Digital Libraries in Iran Part 1: The Situation in 2009
The present research endeavors to discover similarities and differences among digital libraries in Iran and to clarify the extent of their consistency in terms of main library requisites. Using a qualitative -quantitative method, i.e. a survey research method using content analysis, it identifies Iranian Digital Libraries (IDLs) and explores their characteristics. Reviewing the literature, we identified the main requisites for libraries including search and browsing facilities, search mode, collection development policies, content, document types, feedback, access models and services and then composed them into a checklist. Searching Google, we verified the top 500 of the records returned to identify IDLs and study them regarding the criteria. The results showed that the IDLs vary strongly in their main traits and library requirements, signifying a general variation in their developers' interpretations of digital library concept. The strong points of the IDLs are their variety in contents, materials and subjects covered as well as in devising browsing facilities, multilingual collections and feedback mechanisms. However, they showed to be deficient in providing a variety of services, search and management mechanisms. The significance of the research relies on the importance of commonly agreed perceptions of digital libraries on their future success. It affects the nature of the relationships between information users, providers and intermediaries as well as their designing, implementation and resource, access and legalmanagement and the services types and extents

Mapping Unimarc Fields to FRBR Entities and User Tasks
Frbrizing OPACs is viewed from two different angles: the system approach and the user approach. The first deals with different requirements of a system to be Frbrized automatically. The second regards the user as the integral element which any system attempts to serve. Due to the very huge number of MARC records stored in our OPAC databases, data mining MARC records to find different FRBR entities or user functions has been a dominant approach in Frbrizing systems. An in-depth study in this regard has been conducted on MARC 21 but there is no evident attempt performing the same job on Unimarc or its different national derivations/adaptations. This study aims at mapping Unimarc fields and subfields to FRBR entities (1st group: Work, Expression, Manifestation, Item) and also user functions (Find, Identify, Select, Obtain). For this purpose, Unimarc fields (0XX – 7XX) were mapped to FRBR and those fields relevant for identifying entities or supporting different user tasks were identified. After pointing out some major gaps and also strengths of Unimarc for Frbrization, some concluding remarks have been made
