Teaching Basic Research Skills in an Introductory Writing Class
The types of compositions that low-intermediate level student writers are asked to do usually involve personal essay topics. While useful for teaching basic composition skills, these rhetorical forms do not adequately prepare students for writing longer academic essays. This paper suggests some ways to teach basic writing skills in an introductory composition course which can help students produce academically oriented research essays. Through summary writing and paraphrase practice, low-intermediate level students can start to master skills which will help them later on in their academic careers. The types of compositions that low-intermediate level student writers are asked to do usually involve personal essay topics. Study on Apoptosis (9) : Effects of the Fermented Food on the Apoptoic Cells
To check the influence of the fermented food which is good for health on the apoptosis of cells, the extraction solution was prepared from cheese, yogurt, fermented soybean paste and salt koji were picked out by deionized water and the ethyl alcohol. Food stuff which is exerted on the cells did irradiation of ultraviolet rays was examined in the apoptosis happened to cells, the judgment of the apoptosis was made for the LDH activity. The salt koji was the most effective in 4 kinds of the fermented food. The food ingredient which participate in fermented soybean paste and salt koji was vitamin B1, B6 and glucose. As a result, these mixture experiments showed that vitamin B6 was the most useful and indicated inhibiting the apoptoic cells by ultraviolet irradiation in the 0.1% solution density. To check the influence of the fermented food which is good for health on the apoptosis of cells, the extraction solution was prepared from cheese, yogurt, fermented soybean paste and salt koji were picked out by deionized water and the ethyl alcohol. Richard Wright's Representations of Spatial Boundaries: Issues regarding American Multiculturalism
Richard Wright (1908-1960) was keen to represent African-American neighborhood of cities. He carefully described the racial boundaries of the space in Native Son (1940) and 12 Million Black Voices (1941). Even today, American cities have spatial boundaries of race and ethnicity, and it is hierarchically controlled by social and economic forces. Understanding Wright's argument, the author of this paper claims that the identity politics and multiculturalism are unrealistic solutions, because they confine a group of people in a particular place.Richard Wright (1908-1960) was keen to represent African-American neighborhood of cities. Effects of surface treatment conditions and the fabric structure on the surface hydrophobicity of the different cotton fabrics
We have investigated the effects of surface treatment conditions and the fabric structure on the surface hydrophobicity of the different cotton fabrics. Hydrophobic surface of the cotton fabrics were prepared by treating the cyanuric chloride-immobilized cotton fabric with alkylamine in benzene. As a result, we obtained the following findings. 1) The changed processing conditions for each step in the process suggested that the water repellency can be adjusted by concentration of reagents and treatment time. 2) Water repellency were decreased with decrease in the number of carbon atoms of alkylamine. 3) The fabric structure of cotton fabric used in this study affected the surface hydrophobicity of the alkylamine treated cotton fabric. 4) Water repellency of the cotton fabrics obtained by treatments in this process was found to be almost same as that the fabric sample treated with the ready-made water repellent.departmental bulletin pape
A Study of the Ethical Fashion Education to support for reconstruction after the Great East Japan earthquake : A Case of Fukushima Organic Cotton Project
Three years are going to pass since East Japan great earthquake, but the way of the recovery from damage is still far. Among three prefectures of Tohoku, there are the most victims continuing life as an evacuee with 140,000 people in Fukushima. This is because it can get neither the damage of the tsunami nor the radioactive contamination of the nuclear power plant under control.Following "Tohoku cotton project" of Miyagi of the last year, I researched Fukushima organic cotton project. I consider an action to lead to the ethical fashion education from earthquake disaster revival and support to industrial development. I want to establish point of view of the education for sustainable development in fashion through it, in the year when ESD UNESCO world meeting is held in Nagoya.departmental bulletin pape
On Landscapes in Europe and Japan
The difference in landscapes between Japan and Europe shows the different views of nature in modern history. Having learned the value of fresh air, clean water and the sun through the Industrial Revolution, European governments were active in restoring and protecting the natural environment to keep people healthy. They passed a variety of laws that made tens of millions of city dwellers feel comfortable with living in apartments and helped stop cities from sprawling. In contrast, Japanese scenes represent inadequate city policies worked out by generations of governments since the beginning of modernization in 1870's. Their primary concern was to enrich the nation and build up the military; providing people with good living conditions and preserving nature were not their earnest business. The former was regarded as a private matter which everyone should resolve one way or another, and the latter the least important issue. In consequence of such laissez faire, Japan failed to have modern cities with an appealing exterior and an extensive, woody residential area surrounding them.departmental bulletin pape
Energy expenditure after tea or ginger tea
Ginger has hot taste, and is used to care for hie-sho (cold-feeling). We studied whether ginger increased energy consumption or not. Women took tea with or without ginger. Energy consumption after 20-40 min was compared to that before taking tea. The ratio was not different between with and without ginger (n=17). In 9 subjects, oxygen consumption until 20 min was continuously compared to that before taking tea. There was no difference between with and without ginger, either. Nevertheless, 7subjects described that ginger tea warmed the body more than control tea. Some constituents may modify the sense of temperature.departmental bulletin pape
Development of Educational Model Experiment Tool for Structural Design : Discussion by FEM Analysis
oai:gifu-cwc.repo.nii.ac.jp:00000100Recently, the ideal way of an architectural and structural education is posing a problem. The field of structural mechanics ismaking the basis of structural education. On the other side there are many students with consciousness weak. Up to now, manydiscussions have been performed.Main purpose of this study is to propose education method of building structures for raising special knowledge for structuraldesign. This paper proposes educational model experiment tool using mechanoluminescence material as the new education methodof building structures, and examines to which stress I emit light in FEM analysis about the amount of luminescence.departmental bulletin pape
