Multidimensional poverty and COVID-19 in Latin America and the Caribbean : recent trends and the route ahead
Get PDFThe briefing presents levels of multidimensional poverty in the Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) region according to the Global Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI, 2020). The MPI reflects deprivations of those unable to reach minimum standards in health, education and income. Results show that the experience of acute poverty in LAC is heterogeneous. In terms of population groups, children and older adults are still most likely to live in poverty. The COVID-19 pandemic will reverse progress in poverty reduction worldwide, with expected setbacks of three to nine years. Haiti, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua have the largest percentage of populations who are at risk or high risk from the pandemic
Gender lens investing : contribution to women's economic empowerment and way forward

The research informs stakeholders on social and economic impact that businesses and various ecosystem players can create by using “gender lens investing.” It examines existing interventions against the backdrop of market challenges and explores the design of new interventions to address the gaps. Self-regulated learning and ePEARL : a brief report on the 2018 feasibility study
Get PDFGiven the lack of locally designed pedagogical interventions that target the development of self-directed individuals, this educational research study was designed to explore the feasibility and impact of using an electronic learning process portfolio with Kenyan secondary students. Electronic Portfolio Encouraging Active and Reflective Learning (ePEARL) is a student-centred digital portfolio that supports the cyclical phases of self-regulation including forethought, performance and self-reflection. No full textThe short title of the project is ‘BASIC Cartagena Resilient.’ The report summarizes the second phase of the BASIC project, covering research findings and milestones regarding coastal zones and their vulnerable populations: current rate of sea-level rise; issues of public health in communities; economic valuations of ecosystem services; hypoxic conditions inhibiting the bay’s ecosystem; sanitary conditions inadequate for touristic recreation; and metal concentrations above internationally recommended limits found in the bay’s sediments, fish and human populations (Annex 1.4). Get PDFThis report provides an overview of STEM (Science, Technology Engineering, Mathematics) in Brazilian higher education, with attention to issues of gender diversity. The study used administrative data and a novel STEM field classification methodology, tailored for Brazil and INEP (Instituto Nacional de Estudos e Pesquisas Educacionais Anısio Teixeira) Higher Education Censuses. In the latest census results (2019), women occupied about 30% of STEM seats, while representing over 63% of enrollment outside of STEM fields.
