Investigation of the Factors that Influence Team Performance in Project Management: The Case of Habib Bank Limited
The financial industry is facing increasing competition and the need for information construction, with Project management being a key factor in success. Challenges include increasing team conflicts, lack of communication, and weak team cohesion, leading to internal turmoil and decreased project performance. To improve Project team performance, domestic commercial banks, examples such as Habib Bank Limited, are highly valuable. This paper proposes a research model based on previous theories and results on team conflict management, focusing on how conflict management methods affect team communication and cohesion, ultimately affecting team performance. The study collected data through electronic questionnaires and used SmartPLS software to evaluate the model's reliability, validity, common method bias, and multicollinearity. The results showed that Cooperative Conflict Management can improve Project team performance, while competitive conflict management weakens it. Team cohesion mediates between cooperative conflict management and performance, and team communication mediates between cooperative conflict management and performance. The study concludes that improving the bank's Project team performance in project management is necessary
The Impact of Perceived Social Support on Workplace Loneliness. The Mediation Role of Work Alienation
The primary objective of this study is to investigate how perceived social support influences workplace loneliness, with a focus on the mediating role of work alienation. Existing research on the relationship between workplace loneliness, perceived social support, and employee engagement is notably limited. Recognizing the significance of social connections in individuals' lives, it is crucial to acknowledge that a substantial portion of our time is spent in the workplace. Failing to cultivate such relationships may predispose individuals to experience feelings of loneliness. Employing a cross-sectional design, the study gathered data from a convenient sample comprising 178 participants (48 males, 130 females), aged between 21 and 53 years (M=30.88, SD=9.00). Structured questionnaires, namely the Loneliness at Work Scale, The Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support, and the Work Alienation Scale, were utilized for data collection. The findings revealed a negative correlation between perceived social support and workplace loneliness (r=-.729, p<.01). Similarly, perceived social support exhibited a negative association with work alienation (r=-.744, p<.01). Additionally, work alienation emerged as a robust mediator in the relationship between perceived social support and workplace loneliness (z = -4.12, p = .000). To enhance the explanatory capacity of the proposed model, future studies could consider incorporating additional variables. These may include job-related affective well-being, organizational commitment, or organizational citizenship behavior, offering a more comprehensive understanding of the intricate connections between perceived social support and workplace loneliness
The Road Toward Sustainability in the Romanian Fast Fashion Organisations
The continuous level of consumption in the fast fashion industry has a concerning effect and needs to be addressed through a strategic approach, as it has a considerable environmental, social, and economic impact. The study contributes to a better understanding of the barriers hindering the transition toward a more sustainable future in the fast fashion industry through qualitative research. We conducted the qualitative research using the Grounded Theory, which allows an evaluation from different and multiple perspectives, resulting in a more exhaustive and justified result. Our approach was exploratory and the results will be tested in future studies. The purpose of the paper was to map the road to sustainable fashion by understanding the obstacles/barriers, and solutions/drivers for sustainable development. The sustainability fast fashion organizational barriers were identified in the international literature through a structured literature review and further tested for the Romanian market through interviews. After the NVivo Analysis, the identified barriers referenced the most to least, from a Romanian organisational dimensions perspective were financial barriers, insufficient management engagement, lack of Romanian governmental support and infrastructure, eco-friendly packaging, and stakeholder and supplier barriers. The most mentioned driver dimension from an organisational point of view was the existence of a financial reward system for stakeholders, funding programs from the Government and EU, the implementation of mandatory regulations, and the possibility of creating an infrastructure
The Impact of Leadership, Communication, and Teamwork Practices on Employee Trust in the Workplace
Soft skill practices play an extensive role in creating sustainable and trustworthy relationships between employees and employers in the service sector. Organizational success largely depends on attracting and retaining a talented workforce for which soft skill practices are essential. The banking sector in Bangladesh emphasizes practicing leadership, communication, and teamwork as the most prevalent soft skills for gaining employees’ trust and enhancing the efficient performance of the employees. This study aims to identify the impact of managers' practising these three pivotal soft skills on attaining employees’ trust in the workplace. This study has been conducted by administering a structured questionnaire survey using a convenient sample of 104 employees from different private commercial banks in Bangladesh. Collected data were examined by using Pearson’s correlation and multiple regression analysis to test the hypotheses. The results of the analysis reveal that practising leadership, communication, and teamwork skills create a significant and positive impact on employee trust in the workplace. This paper noticeably contributes by creating awareness among bank managers regarding the selected three skills practices to create employee trust in the workplace, which is considered to be bridging the gap of current managerial practices in the private bank organization of Bangladesh. The findings of this study help practitioners realize the intensive utilization of leadership, communication, and teamwork skills to gain greater employee trust in the workplace
The Impact of the Covid-19 Pandemic on Profitability Indicators in the Hospitality Sector
Many business entities in Slovakia felt the pressure of government restrictions during the Covid-19 pandemic, especially entities from SK NACE I: accommodation and food services activities. The main objective of this article is to analyse the return on equity, assets and sales in selected sectors in Slovakia and find out if the Covid-19 pandemic has an effect on these profitability ratios. Firstly, we use ex-post financial analyses and then Friedman's nonparametric test to find those groups of years between which there are differences. The study period 2016-2021 includes comparisons before the Covid-19 period, as well as dealing with the pandemic era. Our investigation concerns 321 business entities from SK NACE I, especially from Division 56: Food and beverage service activities. The findings showed the impact of the pandemic on profitability indicators such as total assets, equity, and sales. Therefore, it was feasible to establish that these are the indicators most affected by the pandemic, such as the economic outcome after taxes, assets, equity, and sales. Additionally, significant differences in indicators were confirmed in the pairs of years 2019–2020 and 2019–2021. Significant changes were confirmed between the years provided, which may most likely be attributed to the outbreak of the pandemic of the viral disease Covid-19. This study and its results may have added value for the management of business entities and the government of the Slovak Republic by stimulating the negative impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on firms in these sectors
A Literature Review on Solid Waste Management and Disposal Behavior at the Base of the Pyramid
Consumer behavior in disposing of products has substantial consequences for the environment that affect all of us. Waste management is a major challenge faced by many developing countries, underlining the relevance of this literature review. Even when academia tries to shed light on this field, it often fails to consider that waste management must be approached differently in less developed countries, which differ dramatically from advanced countries, especially with regard to consumers’ behavioral characteristics. Further, limited effort has been made to systematize the existing literature by highlighting areas of interest in the scholarly discussion. This literature review contributes to the field by illuminating focal points in scholarly research on the background of solid waste management and the disposal behavior of people living at the base of the pyramid. It explores how scholarly research results can guide scholars and practitioners who are contributing to a positive shift in waste management practices. Its novelty arises from annotating scholarly theories and managerial approaches that promise to advance the understanding of sustainable waste management in developing countries. Additionally, the utilization of VOSviewer’s network visualization involving cluster building and keyword occurrences, contributes to the methodological originality of the study. Selective keyword research in the Web of Science database identified 124 pertinent articles for review. This underscores the importance of this literature review, especially in light of the significant increase in publications in this research domain, with approximately 70% (87 of 124 articles) published since 2019. The results show that knowledge, participation, and the active involvement of the local communities are key components in achieving sustainable waste management. Shaping individuals’ attitudes and awareness is vital for promoting pro-environmental behaviors in developing countries. The results also show a prominent focus on recycling behavior and an extensive use of the theory of planned behavior
Job Immersion and Its Role in Reducing Organizational Obesity Through Job Compatibility
This research aims to identify job immersion and its impact on job compatibility by reducing organizational obesity in the Al-Wasat Refinery Company/Al-Doura Refinery Company. The research problem emerged from the possibility of a weakness in achieving employee satisfaction as a result of the impact of job immersion in the company and the increase in slackness and job laziness. The sample included 200 employees in the surveyed company, as the research aimed to test the hypotheses of the correlation and influence relationship between job immersion, organizational obesity, and job compatibility in the company, which was at the overall level and the sub-dimensions level, relying on the questionnaire to collect data and information related to the practical aspect, and using SPSS for data processing. One of the most important conclusions reached by the research is that applying a set of strategies to reduce organizational obesity in the investigated company would enhance the effect of job immersion on job compatibility, which indicates that the influential relationship between job immersion and job compatibility changes depending on the change in the level of organizational obesity in the company. The examined company led to enhancing the level of innovation among its employees in a way that contributes to increasing job compatibility by achieving satisfaction at work, reducing job laziness, providing academic qualifications for individuals working in the organization, and increasing the sense of responsibility, which leads to increasing its competitive position in the market
Modelling the Influences of Universities Culture on Sustainable Development
Sustainable development is not exactly a new topic, but seen in the light of recent events, there is a growing need to identify new ways of putting sustainable development principles into practice. The present paper aims to analyze the influence that elements of organizational culture have on sustainable development to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of implementing sustainable development management in Romanian higher education institutions. Since organizational culture influences organizational strategies, the article proposes a conceptual model for determining the influence of organizational culture on the implementation of sustainable development management. An argument for carrying out this study is the need to increase sustainable development practices in the Romanian labour market, starting from the changes in the educational system. As a result, we mention a model that can facilitate changes in the university culture, with influences on the integration of modern and topical theories and practices, such as sustainable development. The obtained results indicate a low correlation between university culture and sustainability, which opens another perspective on the need for a change of mentality in the Romanian university environment. The change concerns both vertical and horizontal integration, with micro and macro effects. The results are important for the Romanian university environment, first of all, to identify good practices or at least to see the need to transform the existing organizational culture. For university decision-makers, it helps to base development trends on existing realities. Last but not least, it may raise the question of extending the usefulness and importance of the study to the level of triple helix models in which universities should be much more active
A Framework Proposal for Building Ideation Models on the Front End of Innovation
Idea generation, as a key component of the Front End of Innovation (FEI), is a critical phase in entrepreneurial endeavors, serving as the foundation for new venture creation and product development. Innovation management and entrepreneurship literature underscores the importance of idea generation, emphasizing its role as an essential precursor to successful ventures and products. While academic research has extensively explored the FEI and idea generation methods, a significant gap remains in developing FEI models for broad use or specific contexts. Especially, there is a lack of action-oriented, performative models that offer detailed, applicable techniques and tools. Existing models often adopt only a corporate perspective, are overly broad, use complex structures or miss the use of new emerging digital tools, which makes these models not accessible or relevant to entrepreneurs or applicable across different industries or product types. To address these issues, employing the Integrative Literature Review Methodology, this study proposes a comprehensive FEI framework designed to facilitate the development of new idea-generation models that cater to different types of users and contexts and incorporate contemporary techniques and tools. The framework focuses on six (6) key dimensions of FEI models: (1) Model Orientation, Scope and Context; (2) Innovation Type and Innovation Drivers; (3) Model Structure and Visualization; (4) Flow of Activities, Flexibility and Adaptability; (5) Core FEI Activities and Granularity; and (6) Toolkit (Tools and Techniques), offering a range of recommendations for each. It aims to provide scholars and practitioners (entrepreneurs, teams, or companies) with a systematic approach to creating usable FEI models that make the Front End of Innovation more structured and predictable
Sustainable Project Management Practices and the Performance of Construction Companies
Sustainability and project management are interconnected concepts that are crucial in today's world. The Nigerian construction industry faces sustainability challenges such as poor project performance, low quality, high costs, waste generation, environmental degradation, and social conflicts. These issues compromise the industry's ability to support sustainable development. This research investigates the prospects, challenges, and benefits of adopting sustainable project management techniques in Lagos State, Nigeria, using resource optimization and rework reduction measures. The research involved a cross-sectional survey of 232 staff members from selected companies, with a sample size of 172. The study used covariance-based structural equation modelling (CB-SEM) to evaluate complex relationships among variables. Path analysis was conducted and revealed a strong positive relationship between the variables tested. The study reveals that resource optimisation and rework reduction are positively related to economic, social, and environmental sustainability, suggesting that optimizing resources and reducing reworks can lead to better social and environmental outcomes for construction companies. This study reveals that sustainable project management practices positively impact the performance of construction companies in Lagos State, Nigeria, in terms of social and environmental outcomes. The study suggests that these practices are interrelated and mutually reinforcing. The study recommended, among others, that the government should promote sustainable construction by providing incentives, regulations, and guidelines and fostering collaboration among stakeholders to exchange knowledge and best practices
