    Use of Ovitrap for The Spatial Mapping of Aedes spp. in The Endemic Area of Dengue Fever of Baitussalam District Aceh Besar

    The strategy for controlling dengue vector through periodic monitoring is an effective mitigation effort. Periodic monitoring of dengue vectors is generally more often conducted in the larval stage rather than the egg stage. Monitoring Aedes eggs periodically using ovitraps is more effective because it is not restricted by season. The objective of this study is to conduct spatial mapping of Aedes spp. distribution using ovitraps in Baitussalam Subdistrict, Aceh Besar. This study used observational methods and purposive sampling to determine the sample houses for ovitrap placement. A total of 50 houses in 5 gampong/village were observed. Analysis was conducted using the GPS Essentials application and Google Earth Pro software. The results showed that there were 4 gampong with Aedes spp. egg distribution in Baitussalam Subdistrict, Aceh Besar, namely Gampong Blang Krueng, Gampong Baet, Gampong Kajhu, and Gampong Cadek, while in Gampong Lam Ujong, no ovitraps positive for Aedes eggs. Ovitraps are an effective method for mapping Aedes spp. in efforts to control dengue. Keyword: Aedes spp; Dengue fever; ovitrap; spatial mapping

    Dry Preparation of Trichoderma Species Promotes Significant Decrease of Fusarium oxysporum in Shallot Cultivation (Allium ascalonicum)

    Shallot is a horticultural plant that is susceptible to pathogen attacks. The continuous use of non-biological fungicides has a negative impact on the environment, making it necessary to implement biological control using antagonistic microorganisms. This study aims to evaluate the differences in growth and yield of shallots treated with a dry formulation of Trichoderma sp. to control Fusarium wilt. The study was conducted using a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with four treatments and six replications. The concentrations used were 0 grams/liter, 7 grams/liter, 14 grams/liter, and 21 grams/liter. The data analysis results showed that the dry formulation of Trichoderma sp. at a concentration of 21 grams/liter was the most effective in controlling Fusarium wilt, with the lowest disease severity of 23.16 (F_1,24=47.61, pShallot is a horticultural plant that is susceptible to pathogen attacks.     Pocut Meurah Intan Forest Park, also referred to as Tahura Pocut Meurah Intan, is a protected region located in Aceh Province. The transformation of forested lands into single-crop plantations is leading to significant alterations in the ecological environment. The practice of wood gathering through logging in various sections of the Tahura Pocut Meurah Intan region is interfering with the natural habitats of numerous animal species. This research aimed to assess the habitat loss of the golden hornbill (Aceros undulatus) within Tahura Pocut Meurah Intan. The approach employed for this investigation was an exploratory survey. Data was gathered through a combination of techniques, including the line transect method, concentration count method, and quadrat method. Findings indicated that the habitat degradation affecting the golden hornbill (Aceros undulatus) in Tahura Pocut Meurah Intan was alarmingly severe. In 2021, the extent of habitat damage in the Tahura Pocut Meurah Intan area rose to 2 hectares of primary forest and 21 hectares of tree canopy loss

    Investigating madrasa students’ self-efficacy in English language learning: Survey research in a public madrasa in Bandung

    The researcher observed that most students at State Madrasa 2 Bandung lack confidence in learning English. This lack of confidence arises from anxiety about making mistakes when speaking English and concerns about failing to meet learning objectives. To address this issue, the present study evaluates the self-efficacy levels of a single class of twelfth graders at a State Madrasa in Bandung regarding English learning. The study adopted a quantitative approach, using descriptive surveys and a series of questionnaires as research instruments. The survey findings revealed that most students exhibited a moderate level of self-efficacy in learning English. According to the questionnaire responses, students’ self-efficacy levels varied from high to low across different topics. Based on these findings, students with high self-efficacy are encouraged to sustain it, while those with moderate or low self-efficacy require teacher support and engagement to improve. Therefore, it is recommended that teachers adopt appropriate strategies and approaches, along with providing motivation, to enhance students’ self-efficacy

    The effect of YouTube videos with immersive learning strategy on young learner speaking performances

    This study seeks to evaluate the impact of YouTube videos incorporating an immersive learning strategy on the speaking performance of young learners. It is designed as a quantitative research project. The participants consist of all fifth-grade students at Islamic Primary School 6 Banda Aceh during the 2023/2024 academic year, totaling 40 students—20 engaged in pair learning and 20 in individual learning. A random sampling method was implemented using Google Forms. Data collection involved an oral pre-test and post-test or interview as the primary instrument. The data were analyzed statistically with the Wilcoxon signed-rank test to determine the p-value for four speaking skills. The results revealed a sig 2-tailed value of 0.000 for all four items, falling below the 0.05 significance level. This indicates that YouTube videos with an immersive learning strategy significantly influenced the speaking performance of young learners, particularly in expressing personal needs. These findings carry pedagogical implications for EFL teachers, encouraging the use of YouTube videos to improve students’ speaking abilities. The results can guide teachers and curriculum designers in choosing and organizing learning activities to optimize language development outcomes through a student-centered approach

    Exploring the role of online machine translation in language classrooms: Indonesian EFL learners’ views and practices at Islamic university

    The integration of Online Machine Translation (OMT) into English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classrooms has ignited discussions about its practical use and ethical implications, particularly in Islamic universities where academic integrity is a core value. This study investigates the role of OMT in language instruction, explores Indonesian EFL learners’ perspectives on its use, and identifies strategies to address the challenges it presents. Employing a qualitative case study approach, data were gathered through classroom observations, semi-structured interviews with three students and two lecturers selected via purposive sampling, and document analysis. Thematic analysis was used to interpret the findings. Results reveal that OMT enhances students’ vocabulary, serves as a writing aid, and supports speaking practice in the language classroom. It offers benefits such as time efficiency, valuable features, and user convenience. However, challenges including inaccuracies, mistranslations, over-reliance, and excessive dependency were also evident. Both students and lecturers proposed strategies to mitigate these issues, such as fostering awareness of academic integrity among Islamic university students and restricting OMT use in classroom settings

    Dynamic EFL learning application through assemblr EDU for student’s creative writing

    Technological advancements hold immense potential for transforming teaching and learning, yet many students struggle to effectively harness digital tools, especially in creative writing. Assemblr EDU (edu.assemblrworld.com), an application that leverages 3D and Augmented Reality (AR) technology, enables users to craft interactive and engaging educational content. Despite its availability as a free resource, a persistent gap in students’ digital literacy prevents them from fully exploiting tools like assemblr EDU for academic purposes. This study explores how assemblr EDU can spark interest in EFL (English as a Foreign Language) learning and elevate learning outcomes. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, the research involved 38 university students and found that assemblr EDU significantly enhances the development of captivating, interactive learning materials. Students reported that visualizing characters and story elements through the platform made creative writing more enjoyable, effectively bridging the digital literacy divide while cultivating an immersive and motivating learning environment. Ultimately, this approach markedly improves students’ creative writing abilities and overall EFL proficiency

    Textual and linguistic characteristics in ELT research article abstracts: Insights from Indonesian novice writers

    In academic writing, particularly in research article abstracts, rhetorical moves and linguistic features are pivotal for effectively communicating findings to a broad audience. This study explores the rhetorical moves employed by Indonesian novice writers in their research article abstracts and their linguistic realization. Using a descriptive qualitative design, we analyzed 25 English Language Teaching (ELT) abstracts written by Indonesian novice writers, employing a checklist instrument for data collection. The results indicate that purpose and product moves are obligatory, method and conclusion moves are conventional, and introduction moves are optional. Rhetorical patterns predominantly follow a linear structure, with embedded and less frequent moves occurring less often. Linguistically, active voice prevails across all moves, surpassing passive voice usage. Present tense is the most common, followed by past, perfect, and future tenses. Key interactional metadiscourse devices, including hedges, boosters, and attitude markers, are evident, while engagement markers and self-mentions are notably absent. This study underscores variations in rhetorical structures and linguistic features among Indonesian novice writers, offering insights to enhance their academic writing practices

    THE INFLUENCE OF PROBLEM-BASED LEARNING ON INNOVATION DIGITAL ECOSYSTEM STUDENTS' PROBLEM-SOLVING SKILLS

    This study aims to examine the effect of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) on students' problem-solving skills. The study uses a quantitative approach with simple linear regression analysis. The respondents involved in this study were 72 students from the EID E class at ARS University, enrolled in the Digital Innovation Ecosystem course during the odd semester of the 2024/2025 academic year. The results of the regression analysis show that PBL has a significant impact on students' problem-solving skills, with an R value of 0.851 and an Adjusted R Square of 0.720. The ANOVA test indicates that the regression model is significant (F = 183.162, p < 0.01). Furthermore, the regression coefficient for the X variable (PBL) is 0.734, indicating that every one-unit increase in the implementation of PBL will improve students' problem-solving skills by 0.734 units. Based on these results, it can be concluded that PBL is effective in improving students' problem-solving skills, and it is recommended to implement this method more widely across various disciplines

    The Effect of Variations in Cocoa Shell Carbon on the Characteristics of Environmentally Friendly Stamp Ink

    Cocoa plants produce cocoa fruit that can be used to make chocolate. There is 75% cocoa shell waste, from 25% cocoa beans. The cellulose content of cocoa shells ranges from 23-54%. This study aims to utilize cocoa shells as carbon for making environmentally friendly stamp ink. The variations of cocoa shell carbon used are 30 grams, 35 grams, 40 grams and 45 grams. The making of stamp ink is done by cocoa shell carbon , then the carbon is ground and vacuumed with a 100 mesh sieve. The carbon powder is added with 15 ml of polyethyelene glycol, 35 ml of alcohol and 50 ml of distilled water in each variation. The characteristic of stamp ink include density, viscosity, drying time, rubbing resistence, pH and color pihment. The best result are in the 30 gram variation with a density value of 1,015 g/cm³, viscosity of 2,50 poise, drying time of 8 seconds, the ink rubbing resistance does not fade. A ph of 8.5 is alkaline and produces black pigments
