Ambiguous effects of regional regulations on zero land consumption and on verticality in architecture

    Get PDF
The aim of this paper is to highlight that the primary goal of certain regional planning laws – i.e., to limit land consumption – is contradicted by the legislative provisions they contain, which state that the maximum acceptable land consumption should comply with the previous General Regulatory Plan. Moreover, the paper is intended to suggest what innovative regional planning strategies should be adopted. The goal to promote “vertical” development, through strategies of densification and volumetric replacements fostered by reward policies, is not commonly found in regional laws, which, instead of reducing “horizontality”, confirm the surfaces established by the previous General Regulatory Plan stating that they “may be confirmed and/or adapted as urbanized areas and as areas intended for residential purposes, in the new preliminary document” (own translation) (Regional Planning Law 19/02 – Region Calabria)

The high rise building in the development of the chinese city. A research experience

    Get PDF
The research activity started with the project for an international two step competition in China and was developed into an experimental research funded by the competition promoter. It has defined sustainable models, typologies and technologies for high-rise residential settlements in Chinese cities. The high-rise building and the technological implications, which affect the morphological structures, are the subject of study of influential research centres in the perspective of reducing energy consumption, through morphological control solutions and at the envelope scale. In this specific he definition of some technological systems, replicable in other application contexts, was a decisive element for the development of the research following the competition project

Foliar applicaton of asparagine and casein on biochemical and morphological attributes of garden cress (Lepidium sativum L.) plants under greenhouse conditions

    Get PDF
In this study, the effect of foliar application of Asparagine (ASN) and Casein (CSN) during the vegetative stage at four rates (0, 50, 100 and 150 mg l-1) was investigated on garden cress (Lepidium sativum L.). The results showed that asparagine application, especially at a high level, could significantly increase the morpho-physiological traits such as plant height, leaf and stem fresh weights and leaf and stem dry weights, leaf pigments (chlorophyll a and chlorophyll b) and leaf nutrients content (Nitrogen and Phosphorus). Also, the results indicated that casein application at 50 mg l-1 rate had the best performance through in stem and root fresh weights, stem dry weight and diameter of main stem traits. Casein application at rate 100 mg l-1 had the highest leaf nitrogen and phosphorus content. Generally, our findings suggest that the use of asparagine and casein can be considered as an appropriate growth regulator in garden cress cultivation

From the Extended Mind to the Digitally Extended Self: A Phenomenological Critique

    Get PDF
In this paper, I will critically consider Clark and Chalmers’ hypothesis of the «extended mind» in order to sketch a possible phenomenological account of active externalism, by following three steps: (i) I will consider Clark and Chalmers’ hypothesis within the broader context of the so-called «physical symbol system hypothesis» theorized by Herbert A. Simon; (ii) I will connect the problem of the «extended mind» to that of the «extended self», with particular regard to the context of digitalization; (iii) I will take into account an explanatory dimension that has been fundamentally underrated by externalist theories: the dimension of the human body and its relationship to mind, which I understand from a phenomenological perspective. My ultimate goal is to show how phenomenology could provide the missing theoretical framework to develop a more complex and comprehensive theory of the (digitally) extended self

    Lisia 2.59 e la cronologia dell’Epitafio

In this article, I examine the exegetical issues of Lys. 2.59, recently analyzed by Bearzot and Todd. I argue that there is no problem in identifying in the Persians the subject of the phraseἐνίκησαν μὲν ναυμαχοῦντες τοὺς Ἕλληνας οἱ πρότερον εἰς τὴν θάλατταν οὐκ ἐμβαίνοντες,and that the expression μετὰ τὴν νίκην τῶν βαρβάρωνundoubtedly alludes, paceBearzot, to the battle of Cnidus. Finally, I propose to reconsider the question concerning the chronology of Lysias’ funeral oration, generally dated to 392/1 BC
