Virtual worlds and virtual reality. An analysis in the healthcare education
Get PDFIn the last six years Virtual Reality (VR) and Virtual Environment (VE) became more technologically advanced and accessible being cheaper. In Healthcare, VR is mainly used for students training, professionals training (simulators); rehabilitation/therapy; treatment/diagnosis and pain management. In this review we analyzed 2,252 articles published between 2012 and 2019 on PubMed and we organized them in sections: simulation for students; simulation for residents/novice; advanced simulation for professionals; application in the medical/dental/nursing field (soft skills); review and meta-analysis on simulations or VR and planning of presurgical/surgical or diagnostic cases. We have found that the greater use of VR is about: students/residents training and professionals skills improvement. A small part of VR is used to teach soft skills. This analysis demonstrates the versatility of these instruments. Mondi virtuali e realtà virtuale. Un’analisi del fenomeno nella formazione sanitariaNegli ultimi sei anni la realtà virtuale (VR) e i mondi virtuali (VE) sono diventati sempre più tecnologicamente avanzati e molto più accessibili per quel che riguarda l’accesso economico. In sanità essi vengono utilizzati principalmente per cinque scopi: formazione degli studenti; formazione dei professionisti (simulatori); riabilitazione/terapia; cura/diagnosi e gestione del dolore. In questa review abbiamo analizzato 2.252 articoli pubblicati tra il 2012 e il 2019 su PubMed ed abbiamo organizzato gli articoli nelle aree simulazione per studenti; simulazione per specializzandi; simulazione avanzata per professionisti; applicazioni nei campi medico/dentale/infermieristico (soft skills); review e meta-analisi sulle simulazioni o VR e la pianificazione di casi pre-chirurgici/chirurgici o diagnostici. L’utilizzo maggiore riguarda la formazione degli studenti/specializzandi ed il miglioramento delle abilità dei professionisti. Una piccola parte della VR si sta dedicando anche all’insegnamento delle soft skills. Questa analisi dimostra la versatilità di tali strumenti che potrebbero ben essere utilizzati in altre discipline universitarie

Educational robotics in the early childhood settings 0-6: a systematic review
Get PDFThe study presents a systematic literature review based on relevant articles at a national and international level and focused on the Educational Robotics activities proposed to children 0-6 years old. The systematic review was carried out following a defined process and the research identified 21 papers, 3 conceptual and 18 empirical. The study aims to encourage reflection on the role that Educational Robotics can play in the design of educational services, within a play-based learning perspective. La robotica educativa nei servizi educativi 0-6: un’analisi sistematica della letteraturaIl contributo presenta un’analisi sistematica della letteratura rintracciata a livello nazionale e internazionale con l’obiettivo di esplorare obiettivi e articolazione di attività/interventi di Robotica Educativa nei servizi educativi rivolti a bambini e bambine da 0 a 6 anni. I criteri di selezione adottati hanno condotto all’identificazione di 21 contributi, 3 concettuali e 18 empirici, la cui analisi si propone di incoraggiare la riflessione sul ruolo che la Robotica Educativa può rivestire nella progettazione educativa, in particolare entro una prospettiva di play-based learning
Educational Robotics and empowerment of executive cognitive processes: from typical development to special educational needs
Get PDFThis paper describes a new Educational Robotic (ER) approach aimed to empower higher cognitive functions in school-setting. As robot programming requires to mentally plan a complex sequence of actions before the motor act, ER may indeed promote several crucial cognitive processes underlying learning. The steps needed and the mental acts for robot programming may involve Executive Functions (EF), that are complex higher cognitive processes, particularly crucial in the early development, because they are the base for abstraction and logical reasoning, decision-making, sequential thinking, maintaining and updating information in memory and problem-solving. Recent studies attempting to attest with a scientific approach the effect of ER on executive functioning are described. They concern both classroom with typical development or special educational needs and rehabilitation environment for children with developmental disorder. Robotica Educativa e potenziamento dei processi cognitivi esecutivi: dallo sviluppo tipico ai bisogni educativi specialiIl presente lavoro descrive come la Robotica Educativa (RE) possa essere utilizzata per potenziare alcune funzioni cognitive di controllo. Le azioni necessarie e gli atti mentali per la programmazione di un robot implicano le Funzioni Esecutive (FE), processi cognitivi di alto ordine, particolarmente importanti durante lo sviluppo cognitivo perché coinvolti nel ragionamento logico e nell’astrazione, nel decision-making, nel pensiero sequenziale, nel problem-solving e nel mantenimento/ aggiornamento delle informazioni in memoria. Nell’articolo sono sintetizzati e discussi gli studi con cui abbiamo cercato di provare con metodi scientifici l’effetto della RE sulle FE, nel gruppo classe per bambini con sviluppo tipico o con bisogni educativi speciali, e in ambito riabilitativo per bambini con disturbo del neurosviluppo
The role of caregivers in children’s linguistic-conversational development: A review of Italian pedagogical studies
Get PDFThis paper contains a review of theoretical and empirical Italian pedagogical studies conducted from the Seventies to today on the topic of caregiver-child conversation, with particular reference to the role of adults in promoting the development of linguistic and communication skills, especially within Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) services for children aged zero-six years. The studies analysed here – considered a highly representative selection – show that research aimed at exploring the conversations between caregivers and children, conducted in Italy and especially over the last twenty years, has inspired reflection on linguistic interaction, also within Early Childhood Education and Care services. All in the belief that it is imperative to promote educators’ and teachers’ awareness of the key role that words play in children’s linguistic-communication and affective-emotional development, with a view to increasing the quality of ECEC. Il ruolo dei caregivers nello sviluppo linguistico-conversazionale dei bambini: una rassegna degli studi pedagogici italianiNel contributo è riportata una rassegna degli studi pedagogici italiani, sia di natura teorica che empirica, condotti dagli anni Settanta a oggi, incentrati sul tema della conversazione tra caregivers e bambini, con particolare riferimento al ruolo dell’adulto nel promuovere lo sviluppo delle competenze linguistiche e comunicative, in special modo all’interno dei servizi educativi zero-sei. Dagli studi, ritenuti maggiormente rappresentativi, selezionati in questa sede, emerge come le ricerche volte a esplorare le conversazioni tra caregivers e bambini, condotte in special modo negli ultimi vent’anni, abbiano stimolato, anche in Italia, la riflessione sulle interazioni linguistiche anche all’interno dei servizi per l’infanzia. Greek as Ottoman? Language, identity and mediation of Ottoman culture in the early modern period
Get PDFThe scope of the paper is to examine the role of Greek as a conduit for the flow of cultural models between the Ottoman centre and the Christian periphery of the empire. The Danubian principalities of Moldavia and Wallachia witnessed throughout the early modern period a number of linguistic shifts, including the replacement of Slavonic literature with the one written in vernacular. Modern Romanian historiography has portrayed cultural change was a teleological one, triggered by the monetization of economy and the rise of new social classes. What this model fails to explain, though, is the partial retrenchment of vernacular as a literary medium in the eighteenth century, as it faced the stiff competition of Greek. The aim of this paper is to look at the ascendancy of Greek in the Danubian principalities and corresponding socio-economic and political changes through Ottoman lens. Rather than a departure from the developments that facilitated the victory of Romanian over Slavonic, the proliferation of Greek can be interpreted as their continuation, reflecting the growing integration of Moldavian and Wallachian elites into the fabric of the Ottoman Empire at the time when a new socio-political consensus was reaching its maturity. By its association with Ottoman-Orthodox Phanariot elites, the Greek language became an important conduit by which the provincial elites were able to integrate themselves within the larger social fabric, while also importing new models from the imperial centre
25 years of Hyperschool and the need for a shared educational technologies lexicon
Get PDFThe article introduces a critical reflection upon the technological skills of training professionals. This is the starting point to reach the final aim consisting of arranging a simple but potentially radical operative proposal. The proposal is mainly based on the analysis of two single facts, quite different one from each other and yet attributable to the same year, 1994. We also came to a series of arguments that aim to correspond to some stimuli introduced by the Call, describing a vision that would be not only practicable but also immediately applicable. The concrete objective of the proposal is the following: to underline the urgency of developing a new, historically more informed and solidly rooted, technological awareness of the teaching professionals. This is needed both for the renewal of the processes aimed at defining objectives, application models and evaluation of the training professions, and due to the continuous evolution of digital technologies, that does not have border any more. Such perspective also aims to support innovative techno-humanistic approaches to the analysis of future profiles for the first degree study program (L19). 25 anni di Iperscuola e la necessità di un lessico tecno educativo condivisoL’articolo introduce una riflessione critica sullo stato attuale delle competenze tecnologiche dei professionisti della formazione, avanzando a partire da essa una proposta operativa semplice quanto potenzialmente radicale. Una proposta basata principalmente sull’analisi di due singoli fatti, del tutto differenti tra loro e tuttavia riconducibili allo stesso anno, il 1994. Una serie di argomentazioni che puntano a corrispondere ad alcuni stimoli introdotti dalla Call, indicando a tale indirizzo una visione che si vorrebbe non soltanto praticabile ma d’immediata applicabilità. Obiettivo concreto della proposta: evidenziare la necessità di una nuova, storicamente più informata e solidamente radicata, consapevolezza tecnologica della classe docente, ai fini sia di un rinnovamento dei processi di definizione di obiettivi, modelli applicativi e di valutazione delle professioni della formazione, sia alla luce dell’evolversi continuo, ormai difficilmente riconducibile a qualsivoglia confine, delle tecnologie digitali. Get PDFThe important role played by renewable energy plants (in particular wind and photovoltaics) and the conflicting relationship that they often establish with the landscape, has led Institutions and Territorial bodies to draft not mandatory tools to favor a quality design and, consequently, the landscape preservation. In the last twenty years, guidelines have been disseminated, both nationally and regionally, aimed at providing suggestions to promote a renewable energy landscape project, starting, first of all, from a fruitful comparison with the area of transformation. The paper offers a review of the contents of these tools; it reports, in particular, the case of the Province of Foggia whose guidelines stem from a research project that attempts to trace a method that goes from the consideration of the characteristics of the place to the delineation of design criteria that result from those characteristics. The comparison with some international practices makes it possible to reflect on ongoing critical issues and the potential of the process
