The use of Social Media in Healthcare. An experience in nursing

    Get PDF
Social media have found a broad acceptance in the healthcare sector because of the numerous advantages on a communicative level, in particular the rapidity and the diffusion of information. Social media are involved in a wide range of applications, in different contexts, in the communication between both professionals and assisted persons. However, since health issues may require the exchange of sensitive information, the use of social media requires a good knowledge and responsibility on the side of professionals. This article describes an explorative research in which the use of social media by the nurses has been analysed in order to contextualise the use of good practices.

Learning in adulthood: training for transitions and job skills

    Get PDF
Globalization and the social crisis have accelerated the changes and adaption in economies, primarily when it comes to work and its implications. Participation in training can help adults preserve their employability but also their active participation in society. In the knowledge society the link between education, work and social inclusion is fundamental: for this reason, training for transitions and job skills is the future perspective to design formal and non-formal lifelong learning paths for adults.

From system evaluation to teaching. A case study

    Get PDF
Starting from the decrease of Italian students’ average reading score (Invalsi, 2015b) and from the priority highlighted by the Marostica School (Vicenza) to reduce the variance in the standardized tests results Invalsi, a case study was carried out in a primary school (fourth and fifth grade). This case study aimed at investigating the link between system evaluation and teaching through the development of educational modules that meet the students’ needs (Castoldi & Chiosso, 2017; Galliani, 2015; Roncaglia, 2018). Findings showed that it is possible to go beyond the "teach to test" approach by designing interventions promoting human growth and pupils’ well-being, while taking into account the skills assessed in the tests, adopting a context-oriented perspective (De Rossi, 2017). The RAV should therefore be a mutual contract, respectful for the children, to promote and develop citizenship skills.

God, Eternal Truths and the Rationality of the World in Descartes

    Get PDF
In this paper I examine Descartes’s thesis of the free creation of eternal truths in conjunction with what he claims to be the divine attributes known by us. Considering the Cartesian claims of God’s simplicity and that eternal truths freely created by God include logical principles as the structure of finite minds, I argue that the Cartesian thesis of the free creation of eternal truths involves: a) God necessarily establishes (and thus creates) within/as himself all essences and truths, including those that to the finite intellect seem impossible; b) While establishing essences and truths, God instantiates (and thus creates) some of what to the finite intellect seems to be non-contradictory essences and truths as innate ideas in actual finite minds, and instantiates at least some of what seems to be non-contradictory essences and truths in the actual physical world and c) While establishing essences and truths, God may have instantiated in the actual world many (or all) of the essences and truths that the finite mind perceives to be contradictory, that is, those whose existence cannot be clearly and distinctly conceived by the finite mind and seem, therefore, impossible

Managing Knowledge Standards at the Periphery of Professional Knowledge Development: The Case of the Philippine Accountancy Profession and International Accounting Standards Harmonisation

    Get PDF
This article is a case study of how a peripheral professional group, the Philippine accountancy profession, managed its knowledge standards to strengthen its occupational authority despite lack of control on standards development. It focuses on explaining the decision to harmonise the Philippine Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) with the International Accounting Standards (IAS), which overturned postcolonial dependence on the US GAAP as a model for standards development. The harmonisation of the Philippine GAAP with the IAS is the outcome of a complex mix of structural changes in the core of the accounting standards development field, resource constraints on domestic accounting standard-setters, and the local professional group’s efforts to advance its professional project. Local conditions that favour adoption of a model and the active pursuit of occupational authority by local actors are just as crucial as pressures from the external global environment in decisions leading to harmonisation with international standards

Anglo-Italian interdisciplinary networks 1765-1767. Frisi, Beccaria, the Verris and the Fellows of the Royal Society

    Get PDF
The aim of this paper is to shed light on an under-researched area of study: that of the relations that the leading members of the «Caffé» – Paolo Frisi, Cesare Beccaria and the Verri – established with the Royal Society’s Anglo-Italian circles in 1765-1767. These were generally men of science, even though it is also possible to detect the signs of their interest in the socio-legal topics underlying the iconic Dei delitti e delle pene. Building upon a complex epistolary network, as well as a series of unpublished materials, we shall try to show that Father Frisi was at the heart of the creation of a transnational cultural bridge between Milan and London, and that despite their stronger ties with Paris and its philosophes, Beccaria and the Verris benefited from these exceptional contacts. The picture that we shall draw will clarify the role of learned academies in eighteenth-century Europe, on the interdisciplinary nature of intellectual exchanges, particularly on the international milieu where the «book of crimes» was translated into English

Street-Level Workers’ Discretion in the Changing Welfare

    Get PDF
A crisis and deep re-organisation of European welfare systems started in the 1970s. Both the demand for and supply of welfare intervention are involved in relevant transformations, and the street-level workers are placed right at the crucial point where which they meet. They have to accomplish their complex mandate in a changing context and cope with multiple pressures. In order to carry out this task, they manage a certain degree of discretion (Lipsky 1980) that is shaped by the legal, organisational, cultural, social and economic context in which they are embedded. These conditions’ change tends to modify the “spaces” and the use of discretion. Usually, the street-level perspective studies the effects of discretion on policy implementation, services and users. This article focuses on how discretion produces feedback on the same street-level workers, modifying their role, work conditions and risks
