Water retention of substrates potentiates the quality of lettuce seedlings
A difficulty in the production of lettuce seedlings in containers is to assure the production of shoot biomass with limited portion of roots, restricted to a small volume of substrate. Therefore, we investigate if substrates associated to lettuce cultivars interfere in the seedling quality. The treatments, outlined in a two-factorial scheme, were two cultivars of lettuce and four substrates, arranged in a randomized complete block design, with three replications. The results showed that seedlings produced in the substrate with higher water retention capacity had higher performance in relation to shoot morphology and root system morphology. In conclusion, the data show that the seedlings quality of lettuce cultivars associate with the types of substrates studied and that seedlings produced in substrate with higher water retention have better quality
Star of the Sea: Resistance and Adapted Homelands
Joseph O’Connor’s Star of the Sea (2002) offers a nuanced depiction of the lifelong patterns of resistance of the Irish governess and Famine survivor, Mary Duane. Following Gayatri Spivak’s notions of the Other and of ‘wordling’ - the practice of the more powerful who seize their impressions of the experiences of those perceived as weaker to elevate themselves to “Sovereign Selves” – this essay charts the intersections of power and the production of meaning and knowledge and argues that Star of the Sea is a feminist excavation of strategies of diasporic strength. O’Connor’s heroine is not a victimized female Other who can merely report; she is not permanently elusive and powerless, rather she is gradually revealed as a resourceful and inspirational character who relies on the idea of a noble Irish homeland which she adapts to navigate moral dilemmas, trauma and chaotic borders
Nuovi frammenti greci di Severo di Antiochia dai mano¬scritti delle catene dei profeti
The paper contains the first critical edition of six Greek fragments of Severus of Antioch, from the exegetical catenae to the prophets Isaiah, Ezechiel, and Daniel. These fragments were indicated by Michael von Faulhaber at the end of 20thcentury, but were still unpublished. The author tries to contextualize these fragments in the extant production of Severus, which is mainly preserved in Syriac translation

Memorie dal sottosuolo. Strategie di riciclo nei paesaggi minerari del Sulcis-Iglesiente
Brownfields, greyfields and greenfields — as wastelands are today commonly catalogued — have grown exponentially in the last half-century, almost as much as urban sprawl. Since the early 1990s most thoughtful landscape architects, urban planners and architects have acknowledged the transformative potential of those territories. The paper addresses this theme from a theoretical and experimental point of view, focusing in the legacy left by a long history of mining exploitation in the Sulcis-Iglesiente area in Sardinia
Arrègulas: Oral Poetry and Minority Language Standardisation
Arrègulas is a proposal for the standardisation of Campidanese Sardinian approved by the Province of Cagliari, in 2009. It began as a reaction to the promotion by the Autonomous Region of Sardinia of one Logudorese-based standard language (Limba Sarda Comuna) to be used across the whole of Sardinia. What is peculiar about Arrègulas is that it is modelled after the koiné language employed by cantadoris, who are extemporaneous poets with a strong following in the Campidanese area. This koiné can be described as a form of Southern Campidanese deprived of its most marked features. The Arrègulas proposal gives this oral language a standard orthography with a comparatively straightforward phoneme-grapheme correspondence. All things considered, the standard has potential for a higher degree of acceptability with respect to Limba Sarda Comuna in the Campidanese area, both among proficient native speakers and among the many heritage speakers of Sardinian
The paper intends to investigate to what extent the attention of the ancient commentators to the antiquarian and theological erudition of Virgil can provide an accessus useful to penetrate some fundamental strands of meaning of the Virgilian poem. Theanalysis deals mostly with the scholia of Servius and Servius Danielis concerning the Penates of Troy. Starting with the exegesis of the expression Penatibus et magnis dis (Aen. 3.12 and 8.679), we discuss the various antiquarian interpretations witnessed in the stratified Virgilian exegesis, in relation to the relevance of the ‘theme of greatness’ in the overall design of the Aeneid
Supersymmetric Quantum Field Theories in the Non-perturbative Regime
This workshop focused on the study of non-perturbative aspects and exact results in Supersymmetric Field Theories. It was attended by 101 participants and included a focus week and a final conference. The outcome was successful due to a considerable amount of interaction among the participants, leading to fruitful discussions and actual collaborations, with many papers being started or even completed in this stimulating environment. This workshop focused on the study of non-perturbative aspects and exact results in Supersymmetric Field Theories.
