La Monarquía Hispánica y las minorías. Una visión comparada de las estrategias de negociación política
En el tránsito del siglo xvi al xvii, las dos minorías socio-religiosas de la península ibérica eran la de los moriscos, tanto castellanos como de la Corona de Aragón, y la de los cristianos nuevos portugueses1. Ello no quiere decir que hubiese desaparecido totalmente el criptojudaísmo castellano autóctono2. Sin embargo, los conversos castellanos habían dejado de constituir un grupo social diferenciado, salvo en algunos casos aislados. Como ha puesto de manifiesto Enrique Soria, en tiempos de Felipe II personas con sangre conversa se habían integrado, con mayores o menores problemas en función de los casos y las circunstancias, en las instituciones de la Monarquía, la nobleza, la Iglesia y los ayuntamientos3
Hábitos y comportamientos relacionados con la salud de los adolescentes en su tiempo de ocio
This research attempts to determine which are the common practices related to the participation in sport and physical activities within the consumption of harmful substances in adolescents. A descriptive, correlational and transversal design was performed. A total of 1,140 subjects participated in the study (Mean age: 18.75 ± 6.35 years old; gender: male 46.7%, female 53.3%), of wich 790 were undergraduates and 350 nonundergraduates from the autonomous community of Castilla-La Mancha (Spain). It was used the Evaluation Questionnaire of the Habits related to the Health (Gil-Madrona, González-Víllora, Pastor-Vicedo, & Fernández Bustos, 2010). Descriptive analysis revealed that a high percentage of adolescents do not practice sport regularly. The differential analysis showed .significant statistical values which relates the sport habit with the tobacco, alcohol and/or drugs consumption. It was concluded that the design and development of programmes which foster physical activity are a need.Este estudio trata de determinar cuáles son las prácticas habituales en relación a la participación en actividades físicas y deportivas junto con el consumo de sustancias nocivas en adolescentes. Se realizó un diseño descriptivo correlacional transversal. Participaron en el estudio 1140 sujetos (edad: 18.75 ± 6.35 años; género: masculino 46.7%, femenino 53.3%), de los cuales 790 eran universitarios y 350 no universitarios en la comunidad de Castilla-La Mancha (España). Se utilizó el Cuestionario de Evaluación de los Hábitos relacionados con la Salud (Gil Madrona, González Villora, Pastor Vicedo, y Fernández Bustos, 2010). El análisis descriptivo reveló que un alto porcentaje no practica actividad física de forma regular. El análisis inferencial marcó valores estadísticamente significativos en la relación entre los hábitos de práctica de actividad física y aquellos relacionados con el consumo de tabaco, alcohol y/o drogas. Se concluye por tanto la necesidad de programas que fomenten la práctica de actividad física
Prescribed fire effects on early recruitment of Mediterranean pine species depend on fire exposure and seed provenance
Prescribed fires are becoming more widely used forest management tool to reduce both fuel load for fire prevention and high-severity wildfires. However, alterations to site conditions and influence on the natural regeneration of these fires in Mediterranean pine forests are still poorly known. Our study investigates how using prescribed fires before or after natural pine seed release could influence changes in germination and individuals’ early survival by altering the composition and structure of these Mediterranean habitats. We ran a seed-sowing experiment to analyse the recruitment patterns of three Mediterranean pine species (Pinus halepensis, Pinus pinaster and Pinus nigra) in three sites where prescribed fires were carried out. In each site, we sowed one representative pine species according to natural habitats. Three treatments (control: sowing without intervention; pre-fire: sowing before prescribed fires; and post-fire: sowing after prescribed fires) were established. In the sown experiment, we tested two biogeographical seed provenances (wetter and drier regions) per species to observe different capabilities of adaptation. Germination and survival of individuals were monitored during one year. We observed that the provenances from drier areas had higher germination and survival rates than those from the wetter ones. The three species seemed to undergo a negative effect in the burned plots. Within the burned area, the pre-fire seeds presented higher germination and early survival rates than post-fire. These outcomes could be useful in fire management planning as a tool to influence forest regeneration
Diseño de nuevos materiales orgánicos derivados de esqueletos multifuncionales de 4hH1,2,4- Triazol y 2h-Benzo [d]1,2,3- Triazol
En la presente Tesis Doctoral, se han sintetizado derivados de 4H-1,2,4-triazol y 2H-benzo[d]1,2,3-triazol con potencial aplicación como nuevos materiales. Además, los procedimientos realizados para estas síntesis pueden enmarcarse como medioambientalmente benignos ya que se han utilizado catalizadores reutilizables, se ha minimizado el empleo de disolventes y se ha empleado la irradiación microondas como fuente de energía.
Los derivados sintetizados se han aplicado en diversos campos: guías de onda óptica, transistores de efecto campo orgánicos (OFETs), biomarcadores, cristales líquidos y organogeles, cumpliendo el objetivo principal de la Tesis Doctoral: el diseño de materiales multifuncionales.
Además, el estudio teórico realizado ha permitido diseñar los productos finales. En base a estos estudios se han podido seleccionar los mejores candidatos y descartar otros que no presentaban “a priori” las propiedades deseadas. Además, los estudios mecanocuánticos han permitido establecer relaciones estructura-propiedad, necesarias para el diseño de futuros materiales. Todo ello, contribuye indudablemente, al desarrollo de métodos más sostenibles, minimizando las reacciones a realizar y disminuyendo así, el impacto medioambiental

Optimal-robust selection of a fuel surrogate for homogeneous charge compression ignition modeling
Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition (HCCI) combustion is a potential candidate for dealing with the stringent regulations on vehicle emissions while still providing very good energy efficiency. Despite the promising results obtained in preliminary studies, the lack of autoignition control has delayed its launch in the engine industry. In the development of the HCCI concept, the availability of reliable computer models has proved extremely valuable, due to their flexibility and lower cost compared with experiments using real engines. In order to obtain the best formulation of a fuel surrogate formulated with n heptane, toluene and cyclohexane that efficiently estimate the autoignition behaviour, regression adjustments are made to the Root Mean Square Errors (RMSE) of experimental Starts of Combustion (SOC) from the modeled SOC. The canonical form of the Scheffé polynomials is widely used to fit the data from mixture experiments, however the experimenter might have only partial knowledge. In this paper we present the adaptation of the robust methodology for possibly misspecified blending model and an algorithm to obtain tailor made optimal designs for mixture experiments, instead of using standard designs which are indiscriminately employed, to make good estimations of the parameters blending model. We maximize the determinant of the mean squared error matrix of the least square estimator over a realistic neighbourhood of the fitted regression mixture model. The maximized determinant is then minimized over the class of possible designs, yielding an optimal design. Thus, the computed desings are robust to the exact form of the true blending model. Standard mixture designs, as the simplex lattice, are around 25 efficient for estimation purposes compared with the designs obtained in this work when deviances from the considered model occur during the experiments. Once an optimal robust design was selected (based on the level of certainty about model adequacy), we computed the optimal mixture that best reproduces the combustion property to be imitated. Optimal mixtures obtained when the considered model is inadequate agree with the results achieved in empirical studies, which validates the methodology proposed in this work

The carbon footprint of the U.S. multinationals’ foreign affiliates
Multinational enterprises (MNE) need to be a part of the solution in the fight against climate change, as claimed by investors and consumers, reducing emissions within their operations and supply chains. This paper measures the carbon footprint of U.S. MNE foreign affiliates (US-MNE) operating beyond the U.S. borders. Using a multiregional input-output model and information about US-MNE activities, the US-MNE carbon footprint ranks US-MNE as the 12th top emitter of the world. In relative terms, one dollar of value added generated by US-MNE affiliates operating abroad requires higher emissions than the domestic average and the ratio increases when only developing host countries are considered. Only 8% of total carbon footprint returns to the U.S. as virtual carbon embodied in the U.S. final consumption. Potential technology transfers between the U.S. parent company and affiliates to reduce US-MNE carbon footprint have been performed to evaluate potential rippled effects of mitigation actions
