Enfermería de ciencia ficción: Hildegard Peplau en el cuento “Lastborn” de Isaac Asimov
T he nursing profession is concerned about its image within popular culture. Nightingale (1860), denounced, within the literary genre, the negative representations of the nursing work of that time. It is analyzed from Hildegard Peplau’s nurse model, the representation that Isaac Asimov had narrated in his science fiction tale “Lastborn”. Through the application of this model, an empathy relationship is observed between the nurse Edith and the young boy Timmie. The study of the science fiction tale”Lastborn” allows one to disclose the art of nursing care from Peplau’s Theory of Interpersonal Relationships. It values the nursing work, contributing to minimize the negative representations of nursing in the popular imaginary.La profesión enfermera se preocupa por su imagen dentro de la cultura popular. Nightingale (1860), denunció las representaciones negativas de la enfermería de la época dentro del género literario. Se analiza desde el modelo enfermero de Hildegard Peplau, la representación que Isaac Asimov narró en su cuento de ciencia ficción “Lastborn”. A través de la aplicación de este modelo, se observa una relación de empatía entre la enfermera Edith y el niño Timmie. El estudio del cuento de ciencia ficción “Lastborn” permite descubrir, desde la Teoría de las Relaciones Interpersonales de Peplau, el arte del cuidado enfermero. Pone en valor el trabajo de enfermería, contribuyendo a minimizar las representaciones negativas de enfermería en el imaginario popular
GOBERNAR EL TRABAJO DECENTE: RECUPERAR UNA CULTURA VIVA DEL TRABAJO
Frente al reto de pensar el horizonte del trabajo que queremos, en el marco de la iniciativa-aniversario de la Organización Internacional del Trabajo, parece imprescindible volver a nombrar la realidad del trabajo, contrastarla con el marco cultural (político, económico y jurídico) existente y hacer cuentas con el mismo para poder medir la eficacia de las garantías de vida digna que el trabajo ofrece para quienes trabajamos, es decir, para el común de la humanidad hombre y mujer en condiciones para poder hacerlo.
Este texto afronta la resignificación del trabajo en tiempos de cambio civilizatorio y de crisis socioecológica, en una época donde trabajar y ser hombre y ser mujer ya no es lo que la cultura dominante dice que es. Así, vivimos en el paradigma del no hay trabajo, que tiene que ser desplazado por ser una gran falacia que poco tiene que ver con la actividad original y fundamental que realiza cualquier ser humano (y no solo) para recrear la vida. Por otra parte, la revolución de las mujeres que está aconteciendo en el mundo entero ha puesto en jaque también el paradigma del contrato sexual patriarcal, lo que está afectando al mundo del trabajo no pudiendo ser de otra manera puesto que quienes trabajan son hombres y mujeres en relación consigo y con el otro sexo
Cross-sectional and prospective associations of sleep, sedentary and active behaviors with mental health in older people: a compositional data analysis from the Seniors-ENRICA-2 study
BackgroundMost studies on the effects of sleep, sedentary behavior (SB), and physical activity (PA) on mental health did not account for the intrinsically compositional nature of the time spent in several behaviors. Thus, we examined the cross-sectional and prospective associations of device-measured compositional time in sleep, SB, light PA (LPA) and moderate-to-vigorous PA (MVPA) with depression symptoms, loneliness, happiness, and global mental health in older people (= 65 years).MethodsData were taken from the Seniors-ENRICA-2 study, with assessments in 2015–2017 (wave 0) and 2018–2019 (wave 1). Time spent in sleep, SB, LPA and MVPA was assessed by wrist-worn accelerometers. Depression symptoms, loneliness, happiness, and global mental health were self-reported using validated questionnaires. Analyses were performed using a compositional data analysis (CoDA) paradigm and adjusted for potential confounders.ResultsIn cross-sectional analyses at wave 0 (n = 2489), time-use composition as a whole was associated with depression and happiness (all p < 0.01). The time spent in MVPA relative to other behaviors was beneficially associated with depression (? = -0.397, p < 0.001), loneliness (? = -0.124, p = 0.017) and happiness (? = 0.243, p < 0.001). Hypothetically, replacing 30-min of Sleep, SB or LPA with MVPA was beneficially cross-sectionally related with depression (effect size [ES] ranged -0.326 to -0.246), loneliness (ES ranged -0.118 to -0.073), and happiness (ES ranged 0.152 to 0.172). In prospective analyses (n = 1679), MVPA relative to other behaviors at baseline, was associated with favorable changes in global mental health (? = 0.892, p = 0.049). We observed a beneficial prospective effect on global mental health when 30-min of sleep (ES = 0.521), SB (ES = 0.479) or LPA (ES = 0.755) were theoretically replaced for MVPA.ConclusionsMVPA was cross-sectionally related with reduced depression symptoms and loneliness and elevated level of happiness, and prospectively related with enhanced global mental health. Compositional isotemporal analyses showed that hypothetically replacing sleep, SB or LPA with MVPA could result in modest but significantly improvements on mental health indicators. Our findings add evidence to the emerging body of research on 24-h time-use and health using CoDA and suggest an integrated role of daily behaviors on mental health in older people
Electrochemical systems equipped with 2D and 3D microwave-made anodes for the highly efficient degradation of antibiotics in urine
This work focuses on the importance of choosing a suitable electrochemical cell to remove antibiotics from urines. For this purpose, we investigate the use of two electrochemical cells for electrolysis and photo-electrolysis of urine polluted with a mixture of Penicillin G, Meropenem, and Chloramphenicol. The two reactors studied were a conventional flow pass electrochemical cell (E-cell) and a microfluidic flow-through reactor (MF-Reactor). Both reactors are equipped with a mixed metal oxide anode (MMO-RuO2IrO2) produced by hybrid heating using microwaves. The MMO coating was deposited on a Ti plate for the E-cell (2-D electrode) and on a Ti foam for the MF-Reactor (3-D electrode). Results demonstrate that the MF-Reactor stands out to reduce two important factors in electrochemical oxidation, the ohmic resistance associated with the microfluidic concept and the mass transfer limitations associated with the flow-through configuration. Moreover, it allows operating at a lower effective current density because of its larger active anodic surface area. Photo-electrolysis results in faster removal of all antibiotics studied in the MF-Reactor and E-cell, compared to the single electrolysis, thereby highlighting the significance of UV light-mediated electrochemical oxidation processes. This work highlights that despite the large number of papers focused on the selection of suitable electrodes for the electrochemical treatment of different types of wastes, the choice of the electrochemical cell can be even more important than the selection of those electrode materials, and it demonstrates that even using the same coating as the anode, highly different outcomes can be reached.Este trabajo se centra en la importancia de elegir una celda electroquímica adecuada para eliminar los antibióticos de las orinas. Para ello, investigamos el uso de dos celdas electroquímicas para la electrólisis y fotoelectrólisis de orina contaminada con una mezcla de Penicilina G, Meropenem y Cloranfenicol. Los dos reactores estudiados fueron una celda electroquímica de paso de flujo convencional (celda E) y un reactor de flujo continuo microfluídico (reactor MF). Ambos reactores están equipados con un ánodo de óxido metálico mixto (MMO-RuO 2 IrO 2) producido por calentamiento híbrido usando microondas. El recubrimiento de MMO se depositó en una placa de Ti para la celda E (electrodo 2D) y en una espuma de Ti para el reactor MF (electrodo 3D). Los resultados demuestran que el MF-Reactor se destaca por reducir dos factores importantes en la oxidación electroquímica, la resistencia óhmica asociada con el concepto de microfluidos y las limitaciones de transferencia de masa asociadas con la configuración de flujo continuo. Además, permite operar a una menor densidad de corriente efectiva debido a su mayor área de superficie anódica activa. La fotoelectrólisis da como resultado una eliminación más rápida de todos los antibióticos estudiados en el reactor MF y la celda E, en comparación con la electrólisis única, lo que destaca la importancia de los procesos de oxidación electroquímica mediados por luz ultravioleta
Fire in Mediterranean Pine Forests, Past, Present and Future
Pines are a major component of forests and other wooded lands in the Mediterranean region. Pine woodlands have increased during recent decades due to abandonment and afforestation. Fires are widespread throughout the region. Understanding the historical (Holocene) interactions between pines and fires is important for anticipating how ongoing climate change will affect future fires. Fire activity has increased during the Holocene alongside human activities, leading to the disappearance of many pinewoods. Fire frequency was low until the mid-twentieth century, when it began to increase, particularly in the southern European Union countries, reaching maximum values towards the late 1980s. Thereafter, the burnt area decreased despite regional warming, probably due to fire suppression policies and increased firefighting capacity. Pine woodlands are the second most burned vegetation after shrublands. Climate change will reduce the suitable habitat of primarily mountain pines. Rising emissions of greenhouse gases will increase the seasonal severity of fire weather, and, likely, the area burned. The extent of increase will depend on whether fires are limited by temperature or water. Extreme weather events are projected to increase in frequency and severity, meaning that despite growing firefighting capacity the potential for very large fires is very likely to continue increasing

04 Perspectivas teóricas en el estudio del desarrollo humano: la escuela y la familia como oportunidad para el desarrollo
El estudio del desarrollo humano comprende el análisis de los cambios de comportamiento dentro de las personas a lo largo de su vida (i.e., cambios intraindividuales) así como de las diferencias y similitudes entre las personas en la naturaleza de dichos cambios (i.e., diferencias interindividuales). En el presente trabajo, en primer lugar, se examina el desarrollo humano desde el enfoque teórico del ciclo vital y desde la aproximación ecológica de Bronfenbrenner. En la segunda parte, aplicando los principios teóricos de los dos enfoques arriba mencionados, se analiza el papel de la escuela y la familia como una oportunidad –aprovechada o perdida– para el desarrollo psicosocial de niños y adolescentes./The study of human development involves the analysis of changes in behaviour within individuals throughout their lives (i.e., intra-individual changes) as well as differences and similarities between individuals in the nature of those changes (i.e., inter-individual differences). In this paper, first, human development is examined from the theoretical life span approach and from the ecological approach of Bronfenbrenner. In the second part, applying the theoretical principles of the two approaches mentioned above, the role of school and family as an opportunity -used or lost- for the psychosocial development of children and adolescents is analysed

Emotion elicitation during music listening: Subjective self-reports, facial expression, and autonomic reactivity
The use of music as emotional stimuli in experimental studies has grown in recent years. However, prior studies have mainly focused on self-reports and central measures, with a few works exploring the time course of psychophysiological correlates. Moreover, most of the previous research has been carried out either from the dimensional or categorical model but not combining both approaches to emotions. This study aimed to investigate subjective and physiological correlates of emotion elicitation through music, following the three-dimensional and the discrete emotion model. A sample of 50 healthy volunteers (25 women) took part in this experiment by listening to 42 film music excerpts (14 pleasant, 14 unpleasant, 14 neutral) presented during 8 s, while peripheral measures were continuously recorded. After music offset, affective dimensions (valence, energy arousal, and tension arousal) as well as discrete emotions (happiness, sadness, tenderness, fear, and anger) were collected using a 9-point scale. Results showed an effect of the music category on subjective and psychophysiological measures. In peripheral physiology, greater electrodermal activity, heart rate acceleration, and zygomatic responses, besides lower corrugator amplitude, were observed for pleasant excerpts in comparison to neutral and unpleasant music, from 2 s after stimulus onset until the end of its duration. Overall, our results add evidence for the efficacy of standardized film music excerpts to evoke powerful emotions in laboratory settings; thus, opening a path to explore interventions based on music in pathologies with underlying emotion deregulatory processes
