Enlarging Satellite Images based on Fractal Techniques
In this work, a very brief definition and history of Fractals were presented. Fractals are commonly found in nature; which implies that they should be good candidates for modeling different types of real world signals. Fractal-based techniques have found many applications in the field of Remote Sensing by using special computer algorithms. This paper describes the usage of fractal techniques in the enlargement of satellite imageries in order to get more information from them with approximately no distortion (zooming into the image many times). In order to have a practical experience, this research has also analyzed successful implementation of Fractal techniques on a satellite image
The Role of Passion in Effective Teaching and Learning
Passion has a motivating factor; therefore, it is a significant need for high quality learning and teaching. Passion is seeking for the new, and experiencing new ideas. Passion is on the basis of effective teaching. Passion which is indispensable for learning and teaching facilitates learning thorough desire and enthusiasm it creates. Passionate teachers via creating effective learning environments endeavor to increase learning potentials of their students. This study focuses on differences passionate teachers make, and points out the effects of passion on effective learning and teaching
University Quality Assurance in Zimbabwe: A Case of Solusi University
Holistic education molds the head, the hand and the heart of a learner at all levels of education.Quality assurance has become an essential part of these academic core-value systems in institutions of higher learning, particularly, universities. This research focused on general quality; quality control, quality assurance and academic standards at Solusi University. The research took a library and computer based approach where information was gathered mainly from official documents. The researcher also got some information through observation. Collected data was analyzed qualitatively and the following themes emerged: assuring quality requires effort from all university workers and Solusi University has managed it; Solusi University controls quality through assessing the following: students entry requirements, programs, facilities, activities, faculty and feedback from stake holders; Quality is assured by Zimbabwe Council for Higher Education (ZIMCHE) and Adventist Accrediting Association (AAA). The study concluded that Solusi University has high academic standard that are abreast with global university expectations; although Solusi University has high quality, it has a number of areas that can still be improved
Professional Development of Teachers in a Global World
It has been a mojor concern of teachers to meet the needs of their students. In the global world
teachers need to develop their skills to help their students more to sustain their motivation and achieve
better. Working abroad is a good opportunity for teachers to develop personally and professionally.
International experience allows teachers to make differences in the lives of their stduents. This paper
describes the benefits of international experience on the personal and professional development of teachers.
What changes teachers who work abroad bring home is another issue the paper deals with
Impact of Cement Replacement Partially by Mosaic powder on Compressive Strength of Concrete
Mosaic tile is considered as one of the most popular tiles used as finishing material in different parts of the buildings, especially, for floor finishing. During the process of the manufactured mosaic tile, a huge volume of sludge waste has been produced in the stage of polishing and has the effect towards the environment, so it can be reused as a partial replacement of cement for economical purpose. The mosaic sludge can be improved to the mosaic powder through the process of normally drying and sieving. In this paper, an experiment has been conducted to investigate the behavior of compression strength of the concrete by replacing cement with the mosaic tile dust (MTD) by the rate of 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 25% and 30%. For this purpose, an experimental program was carried out in which fourteen mixes with different combinations of mosaic tile dust in two different groups of different w/c ratio of 0.45 and 0.55 respectively. The samples are tested and compared with the conventional concrete to find out whether the compressive strength increases or decreases with increasing the rate of replacing the cement by mosaic tile dust (MTD) by the above ratios
Application of Electrochemical Process as Inner Holes Cleaner
Electrochemical process is a relatively important method for removing unwanted scales by anodic dissolution. In this work an Electrochemical process was used to remove the corrosion from the inner holes of the work pieces (medium carbon steel 0.35% C) by immersing it in electrolyte sodium carbonate, Na2CO3. The tool used was made from brass. This work focuses on surface roughness of the work pipes
Islamic Banking in Nigeria: Prospects and Challenges
Islamic banking is consistent with the principles of Sharia which prohibits acceptance of interest on loans. Islamic finance has increasingly become a significant source of finance in the Western world, especially in the United Kingdom, despite the regulatory hurdles presented before it non-Muslim financial environment. The Nigerian state has also joined the other nations to establish Islamic banking against all hurdles, misconstrued and initial misconception of what Islamic bank stand for. The objective of this study is to ascertain the benefits and challenges facing the growth of Islamic banking in the Nigeria. Nigeria is said not to the hub of Islamic banking and does not naturally have the inbuilt instruments needed for Islamic finance due to its multi-religious nature. This study employed primary data via administering of questionnaire. Two hundred copies of questionnaire were distributed to prospective customers of Islamic banking and non-customers of Islamic banking residing in four geo-political zones in Nigeria. Our data were analyzed by employing Z-test statistical technique and chi-square statistical technique. The result showed that lack of awareness and customers’ preference for conventional banks and traditional money lenders are the major challenges facing the growth of Islamic banking in Nigeria. Our result further showed that poverty alleviation and job creation are the major benefits that will be derived from Islamic in Nigeria. Finally, the study reveals that there are greater opportunities for Nigeria the development and growth of Islamic financial system because most commercial bank customers are eager to switch from the convention banking (exhortative system) to take financial products that are interest free. The study recommended both Muslim and non- Muslim communities should be educated on the mission statement of Islamic bank and what they stand to gain from Islamic bank. The study also recommended that Islamic banking institutions in Nigeria should map out strategies that will enable them to compete favourably with conventional banks and the traditional money lenders
Deformation and visual pollution in the commercial streets of the old city of Mosul
The ancient city of Mosul suffers from several problems on the level of urban and architectural situation which causes them in the first degree to enter the modern techniques wildly illconsidered, and this in turn led to the so-called phenomenon of visual distortion, as well as the phenomenon of Urban Treating which is the other led to a lack of care residents Molder this phenomenon in the digging and the loss of a lot of residential and other service installations, as well as the neglect of the competent official authorities to put the preservation of what remains of the old city, and determine the preservation and restoration mechanisms laws. All this has led to the transformation of the old city to the visually distorted city and a mixture of ancient architecture and heritage, which only ruins left of them, and modern architecture, which entered its technologies to solve the structural
Problems of intimidation. And the emergence of high buildings that do not fit with the buildings of the
old city, particularly through the rise and inconsistencies of these buildings and the use of modern architectural styles that do not fit in with the old city and its ancient history, so the appearance of high buildings has led to the disappearance or block optical elements in the city and in particular that are on the movement axes
Prediction of Shear Strength of Ultra High Performance Reinforced Concrete Deep Beams without Stirrups by Neural Network
Shear strength of ultra high performance reinforced concrete deep beams without stirrups predicted by neural network models. The neural network model based on 233 beams from literatures considering different parameters such as span to depth ratio, shear span to depth ratio, concrete compressive strength, amount of longitudinal reinforcement,…etc. Neural network can be used as an effective tool for predicting the shear capacity of normal & high strength concrete deep beams. Prediction shear strength by neural network very close to the experimental results with correlation coefficient of 0.836, while for ACIdesign eq., proposed eq. by Aziz & Zsutty where 0.394, 0.5624, and 0.488 respectively. The predicted shear strength model by neural network compared with ACI Code, Aziz and Zsutty equations, the results show that the Neural Network approach adequately captured the influence of concrete compressive strength on the shear capacity of reinforced concrete deep beams without shear reinforcement
Pragmatic Competence as an Integral Part of EFL Teaching
In many recent studies teachers and other professional educators in EFL circles highlight the
importance of teaching pragmatic competence as a vital part of language teaching curriculum. This
probably was the result of generations of learners of English language who completed their studies in the
foreign language with a relatively good general language proficiency but weaker skills to interpret the
messages and intentions that are conveyed in conversations, correctly. This particular competence is
referred to as pragmatic competence. This paper aims to overview most widely used techniques to teach
pragmatic competence in an EFL classroom as well as provide theoretical background for the concept and
closely related notions such as speech acts and politeness strategies
