Promover un turismo sostenible reducirá el impacto ambiental y fortalecerá la competitividad empresarial al alinearse con un modelo de desarrollo que respete los límites planetarios y garantice la viabilidad del sector a largo plazo.[eng] Sustainability is based on the principle of meeting the needs of the present generation without compromising those of future generations. This concept is crucial to address the ecological challenges identified as «Planetary Boundaries». Tourism is an important global economic driver and has a key role to play in the transition towards sustainable models, aligned with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda. The sector contributes approximately 8.8% of global carbon emissions. However, it has a high potential to reduce its emissions through sustainable practices. Growing environmental awareness has generated demand from tourists who value responsible behaviour, although a gap persists between their intentions and actual actions, influenced by factors such as price and lack of information. The research results indicate a low willingness to pay an additional cost and a perceived lack of information on sustainability issues, which is a challenge for the sector. Promoting sustainable tourism will reduce environmental impacts and strengthen business competitiveness by aligning with a development model that respects planetary boundaries and ensures the long-term viability of the sector
