An explainable-by-design ensemble learning system to detect unknown network attacks
Security analysts have to deal with a large volume of network traffic to identify and prevent cyber attacks daily. To assist them in this task, network intrusion detection systems (NIDSs) monitor the network and raise alarms when they identify suspicious events or anomalies. We investigate unsupervised learning techniques to analyze network traffic captures because they are more likely to detect unknown attacks. There is a wide variety of unsupervised learning algorithms, whose results seem complementary, but their lack of explainability makes it difficult to find out which one of their results is right. Our system intends to reconstruct attack patterns from a set of unsupervised anomaly detectors outputs, and show them to security analysts. Therefore, we introduce an explainable-by-design system to detect attacks on networks, and evaluated its accuracy on the CSE-CIC-IDS2018 dataset [17]
Basic lambdas for C: proposal for C23
We propose the inclusion of simple lambda expressions into the C standard. We build on a slightly restricted syntax of that feature in C++. In particular, they only have immutable value captures, fully specified parameter types, and, based on N2891, the return type is inferred from return statements. This is part of a series of papers for the improvement of type-generic programming in C for which the rationale is given in N2890. Follow-up papers N2894 and N2893 extend this feature with auto parameter types and default capture strategies, respectively

Search of a Vector-Like Quark tH in the di-photon final state
A search for the production of a Vector-Like Quark, is presented. The search is based on proton-proton collision events collected at by the CMS detector at the CERN LHC. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminonsity of , collected between 2016 and 2018. The search looks specifically for the production of a quark which then decays to a top quark and a Higgs boson (); with the Higgs boson subsequently decaying into a pair of photons (). The top quark can decay either hadronically () or leptonically (). This search presents an upper limit on the production cross section for the mass range . No significant excess over the standard model background is observed, accordingly masses up to are excluded at confidence level. This search is the first to use the reconstruction of the invariant mass, leveraging an experimental resolution of . This technique leads to an increased sensitivity to mass values up to with respect to the previous searches

In 2021, the EpiPOM project – funded by the GIS CollEx-Persée and co-partnered with BULAC and CeRMI (UMR 8041/CNRS, Paris) – was set up as a pilot project to study part of the iconographic materials stored in the Viollet Archives. These archives consist of more than 4,500 written documents and photographs on Islamic architectural heritage collected by the architect Henry Viollet during his travels from the Middle East to Central Asia between 1904 and 1913. The project brought together a network of researchers into a collaborative research action on the archival documentation. The researchers worked on the identification and analysis of the recorded monuments, whose state of conservation is today strongly altered. The project was conceived as the first step towards a broader research programme which seeks to exploit the French scholarly archives for the study of Islamic archaeology in the Middle East regions. This report will review the objectives set during the preparation of the project and the main steps that led to their achievement one year later. We will mention the main documentary operations and research work carried out on the archives, as well as the enhancement actions that have been developed. We will conclude with an overview of the research perspectives opened by this residency.
