The paper deals with the portraying of the regional toponymicon from the viewpoint of the linguoecological approach, which allows studying the set of local geographical names taking into account the possibility of creating a comfortable language environment for the native speaker. The scale of signs of ecology of a geographical name is determined, the influence of intralinguistic and extralinguistic factors on the formation and development of a regional toponymicon is justified. One of the most important criteria for environmental friendliness is the conformity of the name of a geographical object to the requirements of the language system, in particular, the adaptation of word-building elements to existing top-forms. The ecological character of the regional toponymicon is manifested in the presence of nominations reflecting local features and features of the national character of the inhabitants. The notion 'the degree of uniqueness of the name within the region' is characterized, and the scale of features of the named concept is represented. The possibility of forming corresponding toponymic derivatives, which meets the requirements of the language system, is substantiated. Based on the analysis of the linguistic material, the linguoecological portrait of the regional toponymicon is interpreted from the viewpoint of names that meet the criteria of ecological compatibility, and names that can be designated as linguotoxic

The paper investigates the nature and identity of the “demoniacs” mentioned in Niketas Choniates’ “History” as instrumental in bringing about the anti-Byzantine revolt in Bulgaria, 1185–1186. Until recently, researchers from Bulgaria, Russia, Western Europe and America approached the issue basically along two lines. According to the first, the “demoniacs” were a special group of people differing from everyone else by physical appearance and/or behaviour, obsessed by ecstatic feelings or just simulating it. The second viewed them as first-hand participants of the revolt, indignant over and profoundly disturbed by foreign rule and, at the same time, encouraged by the perspectives of the future independence from Byzantine power. In this opinion, Niketas Choniates intentionally portrays the rebels’ actions in the form of a caricature and substitutes it for the heroic picture of the liberation struggle of the Bulgarians and Vlachs. However, trying to reconstruct historical truth researchers read the complex text of Niketas Choniates, full of numerous quotations, allusions, and reminiscences, too literally. Textual research of Choniates’ work shows that the description of persons urging the Bulgarians and Vlachs to fight against Byzantium was stylized to look like they were Erinyes and Maenads from the ancient poetry and drama. Obviously, this description is of a literary nature and may hardly be used for an exact reconstruction of historical reality

The paper deals with lexical, morphological and stylistic features of the texts of Orthodox print publications of the Volgograd diocese. It is revealed that along with the neutral book lexicon, the stylistically marked lexemes of the thematic group "Orthodox sacred and liturgical lexicon" are used in the texts. They are divided into four subgroups of words: 1) words denoting the basic notions of religion and theological terms; 2) words related to ritual and naming of the elements of worship; 3) words denoting the names of the Church hierarchy; 4) words denoting the names of the God and the Holy Virgin. The Orthodox sacred and liturgical vocabulary is represented by nouns, adjectives, verbs and adverbs. Church Slavonic words are used to create a solemn tone and to effect the reader. The morphological structure of the texts of Orthodox publications is predominantly nominal. The specificity of the studied texts is manifested in the use of present tense verbs of theological generalization, as well as imperative verbs. The syntactic peculiarity consists in the use of interrogative constructions, question-and-answer unities, positional-lexical repetitions, homogeneous elements of the sentence, inversions. The wide use of stylistic figures (anadiplosis, antithesis, gradation) in the texts is conditioned by the urge to focus attention on semantically meaningful fragments, as well as to enhance an expressive effect

The article deals with the strategy types used for delivering incentive modality in political slogans and advertising slogans. The slogans of the revolutionary period and the USSR era are compared with the advertising slogans that have been operating in the Russian media since the early 90-ies of the 20th century. The analysis of language means specificity in expressing incentive modality in sub-genres of persuasive discourse is based on the inference about their main structural and content constituents – purpose, functions, object, addressee and addressee (subject and object of influence). It is stated that the impact target firmly determines a deliberate effect on the content, relations and differences between the textual constituents, which is seen in the choice of specific means for expressing incentive modality in the speech sub-genres under study. Political slogans are characterized by the inclusive calls types that are supported with directive-and-komissive speech acts, non-verbal patterns with a high degree of incentive modal assertion. Advertising slogans are mostly built of directive speech acts with the verbs in the imperative mood forms of a second person singular, which helps to create the effect of trust between the addresser and the addressee. A common feature of discursive strategies in the types of persuasive discourse under consideration is the use of constatives, speech acts, aimed at arranging the system of moral standards and values required

The article is devoted to the comparative analysis of the objects of hatred in Polish and Russian journalistic texts. The model X ненавидит У with all its modifications remains in the centre of our interest. Y is understood here as the object of the subject’s negative emotional state. Journalistic texts discuss important public problems, and the range of the objects of negative emotions is wide and diverse, just to mention politics and politicians; war; all kinds of systems; interpersonal relations (family, work, schools); countries; cities; nations; fictional characters; well known people etc. It seems that there are no significant differences in the sphere of the objects of hatred between Polish and Russian journalistic texts
