As literary onomastics is a science that is on the border of linguistics and literary studies, it is quite obvious that the onym of a literary work has been the subject of analysis of both linguistics and literary studies. Ukrainian scholars are still debating whether literary onomastics is a subdiscipline of onomastics, a branch of stylistics or whether it is a component of poetry. Therefore, the article describes how linguists and literary critics analyzed the literary onyms, which algorithm they suggest for the study of proper names

Full text linkThe peculiarities of the correlation between the notions of “language image” and “linguistic means of expression of the image” are analyzed in the article. Conception of the language image is improved. Analyzed notion is considered as a complex dynamic category providing four consistent forms of the image transformation: psychological, cognitive thesaurus, verbal sign, discursive corresponding to four levels of imagery (sensory, mental, verbal and communicative-pragmatic). The correlation between the notions of “language image” and “linguistic means of expression of the image” is found out in two aspects: traditional (formal) and modern (cognitive). Two main aspects of the interpretation of the notion of the language imagery are considered: as a way of image creating and as a means of image reproducing. It is found out that the category of linguistic imagery includes two concepts: language image and linguistic means of expression of the image. The notion of the language image is considered as a way, a model of the imagery creation, and the notion of the linguistic means of expression of the image is considered as a means of image reproduction. In the first case, the language image is interpreted as a mental-lingual unity, a text-making category. According to this approach the concept of “language image” is considered also as a process of sequential conceptualization, a dynamic category forming at the different levels of imagery, each of which has the features of the lingual representation. And the notion of the linguistic means of expression of the image is interpreted as a complex of the lexical units that reproduce imagery verbally. The main precondition for the distinction between the terms of “language image” and “linguistic means of expression of the image” is considered in the distinction between the notions of cognitive and linguistic metaphors. Accordingly, the concept of language image includes cognitive and linguistic metaphors, and the concept of linguistic means of expression of the image includes linguistic metaphor only

Full text linkIn the article was considered the feature of the reproach as a speech genre which based on the materials of the works of I. Franko "For the Home Fire" and "Cross Trails". The reproach in Russian was explored by T. Buligin, pointing to the presence of an evaluative component in its semantics, as well as its purpose for describing a speech act. In English, the socio-situational feature of the verb reproach is also indicated in the works of V. Karasik, P. Schonbach, B. Benoit. A. Vezhbytska considers the semantics of the verb reproach as the predicate of a sentence, distinguishing the semantic components given by its actants. T. Davydov studies reproach in the framework of pragmalinguistics as a speech act that does not have a standard performative formula of explication. In the Ukrainian linguistics, “reproach” is genre that has not received a proper linguistic explanation yet, so the study of its types, structure, functions in an artistic text is relevant in Ukrainian linguistics. Its interpretation in the outlined direction opens new possibilities for the deeper understanding of the genre as a representative of communicative strategies, tactics and an artistic text as a pragmatic and communicative value
