Metastatic leiomyosarcoma manifesting as a gastric erosion: an uncommon clinical presentation
No full textA 75-year-old man presented with profound fatigue, hypoxia, and life-threatening anemia (hemoglobin, 4 g/dL), requiring multiple red blood cell transfusions. Contrast-enhanced chest computed tomography demonstrated segmental pulmonary embolism, extensive left-leg deep vein thrombosis, and a 30×20-mm subpleural nodule with moderate enhancement (Fig. 1).
Esophagogastroduodenoscopy revealed a solitary, round, 4-mm-sized antral ulcer with sharply demarcated, mildly elevated margins, a shallow whitish-fibrinous floor, and a narrow erythematous rim that was atypical for simple erosion (Fig. 2). Given the morphology, severe unexplained anemia, and concomitant thoracic mass, we performed targeted biopsies. Histology revealed an atypical spindle-cell proliferation with a Ki-67 index of 10%, strong desmin and smooth-muscle-actin immunoreactivity (Fig. 3); hematoxylin and eosin staining at ×200 showed spindle cells with eosinophilic cytoplasm, marked pleomorphism, hyperchromasia, and irregular nuclear contours (Fig. 4). Endoscopic ultrasonography confirmed preserved wall stratification without perigastric adenopathy. Whole-body fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography demonstrated intense uptake in the subpleural nodule (SUVmax, 8.7) and additional hyper-metabolic foci in the mediastinal and right axillary lymph nodes, indicating systemic spread rather than isolated gastric involvement. Endobronchial ultrasound-guided needle biopsy of the pulmonary lesion confirmed high-grade leiomyosarcoma with smooth muscle differentiation (AML+++, desmin++; focal caldesmon positivity). Thus, the gastric ulcer was secondary to metastatic leiomyosarcoma; consequently, curative surgery was precluded, and systemic therapy was initiated.

Leiomyosarcomas are aggressive mesenchymal neoplasms that rarely seed in the gastrointestinal tract and may mimic primary gastric cancer.1 Autopsy series identify gastric deposits in only 1.7% to 5.4% of advanced cancers, predominantly breast, lung, or esophageal, with poor outcomes despite occasional palliative resection.2 Most reported gastric metastases appear as submucosal nodules or small plaques. Our case broadens this spectrum by showing that even a minute antral ulcer can conceal metastatic leiomyosarcoma, emphasizing the need for meticulous multimodal assessment, as apparently benign lesions may conceal highly aggressive disease

No full textThe “Adorno Studies Journal” (ASJ) was founded by Martin Shuster and Kathy Kiloh in 2011 to foster inquiry into Adorno’s thought and to make the results of this research available to the scholarly community. After having published three issues, the journal is now ready to resume operation with a different look and feel and new direction under the editorship (in alphabetical order) of Samir Gandesha, Johan F. Hartle, Antonia Hofstätter, Han-Gyeol Lie and Stefano Marino. The new “Journal of Adorno Studies” (JAS) explores the multifaceted work of Th. W. Adorno and its contemporary intellectual, cultural, and political potential. The journal facilitates exchanges between scholars, intellectuals, and artists who think with and against Adorno as much as about Adorno. Taking inspiration from the breadth of Adorno’s work, the Journal’s orientation is explicitly interdisciplinary. The editors encourage critical investigations of art, media, culture, society, politics, and philosophy
Euclid: Early Release Observations - Globular clusters in the Fornax galaxy cluster, from dwarf galaxies to the intracluster field
No full textWe present an analysis of Euclid observations of a 0.6 deg2 field in the central region of the Fornax galaxy cluster that were acquired during the performance verification phase. With these data, we investigated the potential of Euclid to identify globular clusters (GCs) at 20 Mpc and validated the search methods using artificial GCs and known GCs within the field from the literature. Our analysis of artificial GCs injected into the data shows that Euclid’s data in the IE band is 80% complete at about IE ∼ 26.0 mag (MV ∼ -5.0 mag), and it resolves GCs as small as rh = 2.5 pc. In the IE band, we detected more than 95% of the known GCs from previous spectroscopic surveys and GC candidates of the ACS Fornax Cluster Survey, of which more than 80% are resolved. We identify more than 5000 new GC candidates within the field of view down to IE = 25.0 mag, about 1.5 mag fainter than the typical GC luminosity function turn-over magnitude, and we investigated their spatial distribution within the intracluster field. We then focused on the GC candidates around dwarf galaxies and investigated their numbers, stacked luminosity distribution, and stacked radial distribution. While the overall GC properties are consistent with those in the literature, we found an interesting over-representation of relatively bright candidates within a small number of relatively GC-rich dwarf galaxies. Our work confirms the capabilities of Euclid data in detecting GCs and separating them from foreground and background contaminants at a distance of 20 Mpc, particularly for low GC-count systems such as dwarf galaxies

Romagna, 2021). La discussione è stata ampiamente estesa alla società civile
e agli istituti di istruzione superiore (HE), al settore privato, ai governi e alle
autorità locali (Paletta & Bonoli, 2019)

In some case, individuals who criticized their religious communities sought to reform them from within; in other cases, they joined other religious groups or searched for alternative types of religion, among which one should include ersatz-religions. The book illustrates how secularization and religiosity are by no means mutually exclusive but are interwoven in many ways, as it appears more evidently in individual perspectives. The volume also asks to what extent the moments of transition and border-crossing are to be understood as consequences or expressions of secularization, as transformations of the religious, or as manifestations of new religiosity
Il Tekniska Högskolans Studentkår a Stoccolma: una spinta corale verso la modernità
No full textLa sede dell’Unione degli Studenti (THS) presso l’Istituto Reale di Tecnologia (KTH) di Stoccolma, inaugurato nell’ottobre del 1930 poco dopo l’Esposizione di Stoccolma, rappresenta un’opera cruciale nello sviluppo della parabola moderna svedese. Progettata da Sven Markelius e Uno Åhrén a seguito della vittoria nel concorso del 1928, l’edificio incarna gli ideali del funkis e una nuova visione dell’architettura forgiata da impulsi culturali di matrice internazionale. Tuttavia, la storia di questo centro di aggregazione studentesca non si esaurisce con quella prima costruzione: essa attraversa quasi un secolo di trasformazioni, scandite da concorsi di architettura e incarichi diretti. Le estensioni di Markelius e Bengt Lindroos del 1952, e quella di Lindroos con Hans Borgström del 1977, riflettono l’evoluzione dei paradigmi della modernità: dal neoempirismo allo spontanitet. Questo contributo decostruisce le narrazioni che attribuiscono l’autorialità a figure singole, esaltandone l’aura individuale e oscurando tanto lo sviluppo complessivo del progetto THS quanto la sua genesi collettiva. Attraverso l’analisi di fonti d’archivio inedite, il saggio ricostruisce l’identità in evoluzione dell’edificio, interpretandolo come un’opera stratificata e interdisciplinare, plasmata dall’interazione di molteplici attori operanti tra architettura, interior design e pianificazione. L’esplorazione della sua complessa articolazione architettonica consente di cogliere come l’istituzione studentesca si sia costantemente adattata ai mutamenti sociali, alle dinamiche economiche e alle più ampie trasformazioni culturali.The Students’ Union Building (THS) at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm, inaugurated in October 1930 shortly after the Stockholm Exhibition, is a key work in Swedish modernism. Designed by Sven Markelius and Uno Åhrén after their 1928 competition win, it embodied funkis ideals, as a result of a new ar-chitectural vision shaped by foreign impulses. Yet the history of the students’ hub did not stop there: it spans nearly a century of transformation through architectural competitions and direct commissions. Extensions by Markelius and Bengt Lindroos in 1952, and by Lindroos with Hans Borgström in 1977, reflected evolving paradigms of modernity − from New Empiricism to spontanitet. This paper dismantles narratives that isolate authorship and amplify individual architects’ aura, overlooking the overall THS’s development and collabora-tive genesis. Drawing on unpublished archival sources, this paper examines the building’s evolving identity and repositions it as a layered, interdisciplinary project shaped by multiple actors across architecture, interi-ors, and planning. Unpacking its architectural stratification reveals how the institution continuously adapted to social change, economic shifts, and broader cultural transitions

No full textAlthough the COVID-19 pandemic has officially ended, outbreaks still occur, especially in immunocompromised patients, including those undergoing chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR T-cell) therapy, who have weakened immune systems due to prior treatments or CAR T-related effects such as severe and prolonged neutropenia, lymphopenia and hypogammaglobulinemia. This retrospective study analyzed relapsed/refractory (R/R) large B-cell lymphoma (LBCL) patients receiving CAR T-cell therapy, assessing the impact of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection on overall survival (OS), progression-free survival (PFS), and delays in leukapheresis and CAR T-cell infusion. Among 89 infused patients, 37 (41.6%) developed COVID-19. Compared to the COVID + cohort, COVID- patients had worse prognostic scores and higher LDH and ferritin levels before infusion. SARS-CoV-2 infection delayed leukapheresis (14–35 days) and CAR T-cell infusion (20–65 days). The best overall response rate (BRR) in the CAR T-cell population was 77.5% (69/89 patients), with a complete response (CR) rate of 67%. The BRR was 100% in COVID + patients vs. 61.5% in COVID−. Median PFS was 5.47 months in the COVID- cohort and not reached in the COVID + cohort (p = 0.007). Median OS was 19 months in COVID- patients and not reached in COVID+ (p < 0.0001). No significant survival differences were found between COVID + and COVID − patients. Improved outcomes likely resulted from widespread vaccination, prophylaxis, early antiviral treatments, and the emergence of less virulent SARS-CoV-2 variants, reducing disease severity and mortality, allowing for better management of these patients

lineare e unidimensionale. Parole, immagini, suoni e interazioni si intrec
ciano oggi in esperienze multimodali che infl uenzano la percezione, l’en
gagement e i comportamenti dei consumatori.
Questo volume esplora il ruolo crescente della comunicazione multimo
dale nel marketing e nei media digitali, proponendo una rifl essione teorica
e metodologica sull’integrazione sinergica di modi diversi. A partire da una
prospettiva interdisciplinare, l’opera analizza come le componenti visive,
verbali e sonore si combinino nei contenuti digitali – dai social media ai
formati audiovisivi – per generare risposte attitudinali e comportamentali.
Attraverso un approccio empirico fondato su dati sperimentali, il lavoro
mira a offrire strumenti analitici e progettuali per comprendere e valoriz
zare le logiche comunicative dell’era digitale. La multimodalità, intesa non
come mera somma di codici ma come orchestrazione strategica dei modi,
emerge così come una chiave interpretativa e operativa imprescindibile
per il marketing contemporaneo
