Accurate frequency estimation through iterative parabolic interpolations
Extracting the frequency from a complex signal is a common task in many applications, and multiple methods exist for accurate frequency estimation under different noise conditions. Iterative algorithms based on the interpolation of the discrete Fourier transform (DFT) are known to achieve high accuracy, and methods that employ auxiliary coefficients around the peak of the DFT are recurrent in the literature. This paper presents a novel iterative algorithm for frequency estimation based on successive parabolic interpolations of three DFT coefficients. Unlike other similar methods, which typically require auxiliary fine estimators for bias reduction, the proposed method refines the frequency estimate by progressively decreasing the offset of the DFT coefficients employed at each iteration. This approach eliminates the need for external correction steps and enhances estimation accuracy as the interpolation narrows around the true frequency. The algorithm achieves performance very close to the Cramér-Rao lower bound while maintaining computational efficiency, and the fine estimation step implemented can be flexibly applied to signals with or without zero-padding, making its use suitable for a wide range of signal processing applications. Simulations confirm the high accuracy and robustness to noise of the proposed estimator, showing comparable or better performance than existing iterative techniques

Electrodes Coordination in Suppressing Metal Particle in DC Gas-insulated Asset: Fundamental Research
Under the direct current electric field, the metal particles inside GIS/GIL exhibit reciprocating bouncing and firefly movements, which pose a relatively large hazard to the insulation system. This paper explores the roles slope electrode and ground electrode coating play on restraining the of metal particle motion. The results show that in the case of the slope electrode, the movement of metal particles is affected by the reflection angle and the electric field gradient force. Among them, the electrode reflection angle drive is dominant when the spherical metal particles move through the insulating gas gap, while the electric field gradient force drive is dominant when the linear metal particles fly; the coating has a significant effect on increasing the take-off voltage of spherical metal particles, but the effect of increasing the take-off voltage of linear metal particles depends on the contact mode between the particles and the coated electrode when they are stationary. Approximately 30% of the linear metal particles can be suppressed. The research results can provide a reference for the comprehensive suppression of metal particles in DC GIS/GIL

Fostering lithium-ion battery remanufacturing through Industry 5.0
The rise of electric vehicles (EVs) has resulted in notable environmental benefits, yet challenges persist regarding battery disposal and recovery. The increasing demand for EVs heightens concerns about the environmental impact of lithium-ion battery (LIB) waste, which threatens both ecosystems and public health. Although remanufacturing is seen as a sustainable solution to these issues, current research does not thoroughly examine the role of Industry 5.0 technologies in optimising this process. This study aims to compare and assess the potential of various Industry 5.0 technologies and approaches to enhance the remanufacturing of lithium-ion batteries. Using the AHP-PROMETHEE method, we identify the most critical and influential Industry 5.0 prospects that should be prioritised for addressing key challenges such as diagnostic accuracy, safe disassembly, and high-quality reassembly. The multi-criteria analysis highlights key Industry 5.0 imperatives that can facilitate efficient and effective remanufacturing processes. The study identifies Digital Product Passport (DPP), Digital Twin (DT), and the Internet of Everything (IoE) as critical enablers in optimizing the LIB remanufacturing process. The analysis reveals that DPP stands out as the top enabler, significantly enhancing transparency, traceability, and lifecycle management for LIBs. DT and IoE follow closely, contributing to real-time monitoring, predictive maintenance, and seamless data integration across the supply chain. This paper delves in the emerging concept of the Digital Battery Passport (DBP), a DPP mandated by recent European regulations aimed at improving battery management and circularity. The DBP facilitates access to critical data throughout the battery's lifecycle, including its origin, composition, and state of health. This information is crucial for optimising remanufacturing processes, ensuring compliance with sustainability standards, and extending battery life. The paper highlights the potential of DBP to transform the EV battery value chain by enhancing transparency and enabling more informed decision-making across stakeholders. Our findings offer significant insights for policymakers, battery manufacturers, and remanufacturing firms
Carbon prices and green bond markets: Global insights from quantile connectedness
Carbon pricing mechanisms and green bond markets are pivotal in addressing climate change and
transitioning to sustainable finance. This study examines the interconnectedness between four
global carbon price indices and the three largest green bond markets. We use daily data from July
2019 to April 2024, employing quantile-based connectedness analysis to investigate the return
and volatility spillovers under normal, bullish, and bearish market conditions. The results reveal
that carbon price indices act as net transmitters of shocks, whereas green bond markets are net
receivers. Connectedness intensifies during extreme market movements, underscoring the influence of global events. These findings highlight the critical role of carbon prices and green bonds in
navigating financial risks and opportunities within the sustainable finance ecosystem
Pembrolizumab-axitinib versus nivolumab-cabozantinib as first-line therapy in patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma: a retrospective real-world comparison (ARON-1)
Background: The optimal first-line therapy for metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC) remains uncertain, despite recent advancements in immune-based combinations. This retrospective study compares the effectiveness of pembrolizumab plus axitinib (PA) and nivolumab plus cabozantinib (NC) as first-line treatments for mRCC in a real-world setting. Methods: Patient data were collected from 55 centers across 16 countries, encompassing individuals diagnosed with mRCC receiving first-line treatment with PA or NC between January 2016 and October 2023. Clinical and tumor features and treatment responses were recorded. The primary endpoints were overall response rate (ORR), overall survival (OS), progression-free survival (PFS), and time to second progression. Statistical analyses included Kaplan-Meier survival estimates, Cox proportional hazard models, and chi-square tests. Results: A total of 760 patients with a median age of 64 years (range, 29-88) were included. Of them, 607 received PA, and only 153 NC. In the overall study population, ORR was 59% for and 49% for PA. Median OS was 55.7 months and not reached (NR) for PA and NC, respectively (P = .51), while median PFS was longer with NC (27.6 months) than for PA (16.2 months, P = .003). Subgroup analysis suggested a PFS benefits for NC in male, younger patients, intermediate risk group, clear cell histology, and lung involvement, as well as ORR favored NC in good risk patients. Multivariate analysis identified first-line therapy as a significant factor associated with PFS. Conclusions: In this certainly biased retrospective comparison, NC demonstrated superior ORR and longer PFS compared to PA in mRCC. These findings underscore the importance of considering individual patient characteristics and risk profiles when selecting first-line therapy for mRCC
In search of human protoparvovirus acute infections
: Three protoparvoviruses (PPV)-bufavirus, cutavirus, and tusavirus-are the most recent members of the Parvoviridae virus family discovered in humans. All were initially found in stool but have since then been associated with gastroenteritis or cutaneous T-cell lymphoma, or found to be of zoonotic origin, respectively. In the current study, we developed novel PPV IgM enzyme immunoassays (EIA) and aimed to search for and characterize human protoparvovirus acute infections. We also provide a more comprehensive analysis of PPV seroprevalences. We screened, with in-house IgG, IgM, and PCR assays, a total of 1444 serum samples from ten different cohorts from six countries (Finland, Italy, Kenya, Latvia, Iran, and Iraq), with subjects varying in age and health status (e.g., unexplained fever, gastroenteritis, respiratory tract infections, chronic conditions, or constitutionally healthy). The geographic distributions of bufavirus seroprevalences were similar to previous findings, with a high (68 %) bufavirus seroprevalence found in Iran adult and low (<16 %) in Finnish elderly and Italy adult cohorts; the Iran child bufavirus seroprevalence was also significantly higher (16.5 %) than that of the Italy child cohort (4.5 %). Interestingly, we found surprisingly high (>10 %) cutavirus IgG seroprevalences among adults with chronic diseases and the elderly. We did not find any TuV IgG in any cohort. We also discovered some elevated human protoparvovirus IgM reactivity, but upon confirmatory competition EIA and PCR, none were true acute infections. These results suggest that acute human protoparvovirus infections are mild, local, rare, or not seen in respiratory tract infections or gastroenteritis

The partnership demonstrates how translingual authors reflect on and influence literary and societal transformations. It addresses key questions regarding the position of translingual literature in the German-speaking literary landscape, the narrative potential of literary multilingualism, and the role of linguistic biographies in examining language ideologies and cultural belonging. The article highlights how interdisciplinary collaborations can foster new methodological approaches in German studies and contribute to contemporary societal debates

This article presents an analysis of children’s nonfiction: its definition, its evolution, the question of whether it can be considered part of children’s literature altogether, or rather a corpus of books that are different from the narrative, poetic, imaginative, ‘artistic’ children’s titles. In the attempt to understand which elements can contribute to the creation of a quality nonfiction, special attention is paid to the so-called ‘pictorial turn’, and more specifically to the nonfiction picturebook, a publishing phenomenon that started during the 2000s at an international level. The nonfiction picturebook is especially interesting, as a medium, because, both content- and form-wise, it is characterized by a strong experimental and innovative drive, and this inevitably affects the way knowledge is communicated and shared with children
