    From Students to Movers: Linking Internal and International Migration Trajectories Among Spanish Bachelor's and Advanced Vocational Training Graduates

    The relationship between internal and international migration has traditionally been overlooked in migration research. Seeking to bridge this divide, we examine the cumulative, socioeconomically selective and functionally differentiated nature of youth spatial mobility. Using harmonized microdata from two nationally representative surveys of bachelor's graduates and advanced vocational trainees from the 2013/2014 cohort, we examine the role of pre-graduation mobility, social origin and field of study in shaping postgraduation migration outcomes. Our findings show that any form of educational mobility is a strong predictor of subsequent migration. Migration trajectories are also stratified by parental education, with graduates from more privileged backgrounds more likely to engage in international or complex mobility paths. Additionally, migration motives and patterns vary by migration type and field of study, supporting a functional differentiation between internal and international mobility. These results highlight how different forms of mobility are embedded in cumulative life-course processes and socially structured opportunity regimes, underscoring the need for more integrated theoretical and policy approaches to youth migration

    Il numero che presentiamo costituisce parte dell’esito del I Convegno delle giovani sociologhe e dei giovani sociologi dell’Ambiente e del Territorio italiani, svoltosi a Bari il 30-31 maggio dell’anno appena trascorso presso l’Università degli Studi Aldo Moro. Il convegno ha rappresentato la prima occasione per la componente giovanile degli studiosi della sociologia dell’ambiente e del territorio italiani (Gruppo STAI - Sociologia del Territorio e dell’Ambiente Italia) di riunirsi a livello nazionale avendo come guida il tema “Crisi permanenti: la dimensione territoriale delle sfide socio-ambientali”. La multidimensionalità assunta dall’idea di “crisi” ha sfidato i partecipanti all’iniziativa, spingendo studiosi e studiose a riflettere sulle diverse forme attraverso cui il territorio italiano è attraversato dall’intrecciarsi di fattori sociali e fattori ambientali-materiali. La relazione tra sociale e ambientale non è certamente un tema inedito per le scienze sociali, ma, senz’ombra di dubbio, allo stato attuale rappresenta la più grande sfida che i governi, a tutti i livelli, si ritrovano a dover affrontare al fine di preservare il funzionamento stesso delle società moderne

    Constitutional jurisdiction and political decisions: which edges?-The purpose of this essay is to provide a few insights into the complex relationship between the political sphere and constitutional Courts and Tribunals, as the increasing involvement of courts for the resolution of inherently political disputes raises considerable questions about their ability to function as independent bodies that uphold the rule of law and the orderly and physiological development of democratic processes. The analysis is carried out from a comparative perspective, considering some significant experiences belonging to both the common law and civil law traditions. Despite their intrinsic differences, they demonstrate the existence of a fil rouge, represented by the attempt to identify interpretive techniques or approaches of self-restraint that allow the courts to deal with issues of different political tone

Her participation in the 13th edition in 1998, titled "Multimediale, molto singolare" ("Multimedia, Very Singular"), was particularly momentous.     Elucidating the BRCA2-RAD51 interaction through an integrated biophysical and structural biology approach

    The interaction of RAD51 and BRCA2, two proteins involved in the homologous recombination (HR) pathway for the repair of DNA double strand breaks (DSB) is a key-process for the integrity of our genome (1). BRCA2 recruits, transports and assist RAD51 to the sites where DNA damages are processed (2). BRCA2 interacts with RAD51 through eight short repeats with different affinities, and through an additional C-terminal BRCA2 domain (1). Nowadays, only the interaction of RAD51 with the fourth BRC repeat, has been structurally characterized while it is not completely clear the role of other BRC sequences (3, 4). Nevertheless, the interaction of RAD51 with multiple BRC repeats may imply a tight and fine regulation of RAD51 activity. Several reports highlighted that missense mutations within one BRC repeat can hamper BRCA2 activity (5). Considering the close homology between the BRC repeats, it is striking how these mutations cannot be counterbalanced by the other non-mutated repeats preserving the function and the interactions of BRCA2 with RAD51. To shed light on the close relationship between these two proteins we combined experimental and computational approaches. We first used AlphaFold simulations to predict peptide binding modes and rank their affinities. To further rationalize these insights, we performed residue scanning analyses and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. We then isolated a human monomeric RAD51 form to study the interaction of individual BRC repeat peptides using orthogonal biophysical experiments. The calculated affinities were correlated with the ability of isolated BRC repeats to interact with RAD51 WT, revealing that only the highest-affinity peptides could disassemble RAD51 fibrils. These findings guided the design of RAD51 complexes with the strongest binders, either alone or within BRCA2 truncations containing multiple peptides, which were subsequently used for integrative structural investigation, encompassing cross-linking mass spectrometry, small angle X-ray scattering and AlphaFold simulations. Our results shed light not only on the crucial role of BRC repeats interaction with RAD51’s N-terminal domains, but also on the dynamic and multifaceted behavior of the regions linking the first four BRC repeats

    Secondary sclerosing cholangitis in critically ill patients with febrile infection-related epilepsy syndrome (FIRES): a case series

    Objectives: To describe the occurrence of secondary sclerosing cholangitis in critically ill patients (SC-CIP) with febrile infection-related epilepsy syndrome (FIRES). Methods: Monocentric retrospective analysis of all adult patients with FIRES admitted from January 2020 to December 2024. Results: Four patients (3 males) with a mean age of 24 years (range: 18–40 years) and no significant medical history presented with cryptogenic FIRES. They required treatment with antiseizure medications (mean: 9; range: 8–10), anesthetics (propofol, midazolam and ketamine in all cases), and immunotherapies. The average duration of status epilepticus (SE) was 57 days (range: 34–90 days), while the mean duration of intensive care unit (ICU) stay was 82 days (range: 58–117 days). All patients developed cholestatic liver disease during their ICU stay, reversible in one case. In the three cases with persistent injury (75%), SC-CIP was diagnosed with MR-colangiography after a mean of 106 days from SE onset. Discussion: The high incidence of SC-CIP in our cohort of patients with FIRES suggests a link between these two rare conditions, likely related to prolonged intensive care, hyperinflammation and polytherapy, including ketamine use. Vigilant monitoring of liver disease progression in critically ill patients with FIRES and similar predisposing factors may allow early recognition of SC-CIP and improved patient outcomes

    Follicular fluid secretome enhances the meiotic competence of in vitro matured equine oocytes, but not the developmental competence of zygotes after intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI)

    : In vitro embryo production is widely used in equine clinical reproduction; however, its efficiency remains suboptimal due to the undermined developmental competence of in vitro-matured oocytes. In this work, we evaluated the effect of mare preovulatory follicular fluid (PFF) secretome supplementation during in vitro maturation (IVM) of equine oocytes recovered post-mortem. Secretome was isolated from PFF and was added to the IVM medium at concentrations of 20 μg/ml (S20) or 40 μg/ml (S40). The percentage of mature oocytes, as well as embryo cleavage, blastocyst development, and gene expression of embryos produced by intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) was analysed. Gene expression of embryos at day 7 post-ICSI was analysed by real-time quantitative PCR. We observed that the addition of PFF secretome at 40 μg/ml (S40) significantly increased oocyte maturation rates (Control vs. S40: 35.4 ± 3.6 % vs. 46.5 ± 2.7 %; mean % ± SEM; P < 0.05) and reduced the proportion of degenerated oocytes after maturation (Control vs. S40: 58.6 ± 4.2 % vs. 44.0 ± 4.8 %; P < 0.05) compared to the control group. However, no effects were observed on cleavage or blastocyst rates, nor on the expression of the candidate genes studied, namely BEX2, FABP3, ODC, MOBKL3, HSP90AA1, BAX and BCL2. In conclusion, supplementation of PFF secretome during IVM at 40 μg/ml, but not at 20 μg/ml, improves the meiotic competence of post-mortem retrieved equine oocytes but does not influence their developmental competence or the expression of the selected genes in the resulting embryos

    Bond Strength of Universal Adhesive/Resin Cement Combinations Relying on Touch-Cure Mechanisms

    New dual-curing resin cements are constantly launched into the market to improve the bond strength between dentine and indirect restorations when light irradiation is limited by the restoration material. The present study evaluated the microshear bond strength (μSBS) of two dual-cured resin cements, Estecem II Plus (EP) and Variolink Esthetic DC (VAR), when resin composite or dentine substrates were conditioned with their corresponding universal adhesives, Tokuyama Universal Bond II (TUB) and Adhese Universal DC (ADH). The experimental groups (n = 20) were (1) TUB/EP light-cured, (2) TUB/EP self-cured, (3) ADH/VAR light-cured, and (4) ADH/VAR self-cured. A μSBS test was performed after 24 h (T0) or after thermocycling (TC), and failure modes were assessed. Data analysis was performed using three-way ANOVA and Tukey tests (p < 0.05). In composite, TUB/EP self-cured demonstrated the highest μSBS at T0 and TC. After TC, TUB/EP self-cured and ADH/VAR light-cured remained stable (p > 0.05). In dentine, TUB/EP light-cured was statistically superior to TUB/EP self-cured and ADH/VAR self-cured at T0. Thermocycling decreased the μSBS of light-curing groups. TUB/EP achieved optimal μSBS when the manufacturer’s instructions were followed and the adhesive was self-cured, irrespective of the bonding substrate. However, ADH/VAR was more dependent on the type of bonding substrate than on the curing mode of the resin cement
