    Understanding climate risk in Europe: Are transition and physical risk priced in equity and fixed-income markets?

    This study explores how climate-related risk factors influence the European equity and fixed-income markets. We examine the effect of specific physical risk drivers, including temperature fluctuations, drought, floods, wind, and wildfire risk, on both stocks and bonds. Additionally, we assess the impact of transition risk using two potential indicators: the log-returns of futures on European Carbon Allowances and a Transition Risk Index derived from credit default spreads. We also compare them to see if they carry the same information. Our findings reveal that climate risk variables have different effects on stocks and bonds, with stock returns appearing mostly unaffected by climate-related variables. In contrast, bond z-spreads show significant statistical relationships with both physical and transition climate risks. Physical risk, on average, rewards the green bonds in the sample, and penalizes the traditional bonds. As for transition risk, the two proxies are shown to capture different types of information and to affect different bonds. This suggests that credit default swaps are pricing a transition risk that goes beyond carbon emissions

Il volume percorre, almeno nei suoi snodi principali, l’evoluzione di un capolavoro coreutico romantico, Giselle, cercando di capire cosa sia cambiato e quando, in quali passaggi della trasmissione da un artista all’altro. La coreografia e il senso sotteso al balletto si sono modificati al punto che nel 1841 si era di fronte ad un manifesto di poetica travestito, in cui il personaggio eponimo, incarnazione dell’Ideale, era la sintesi perfetta di materia e spirito di cui Gautier era il sostenitore, mentre oggi si assiste alla spiritualizzazione di Giselle a totale discapito dell’elemento terreno, fisico, bacchico. Quando si attui questa svolta e quando e per opera di chi si introducano altri radicali rovesciamenti prova a raccontarlo questo volume, che passa dalla Francia alla Russia all’Italia, dall’Inghilterra agli Stati Uniti, dalla Danimarca a Cuba

    Basinio da Parma (1425-57) stands out as one of the most distinguished intellectuals at the court of Sigismondo Malatesta (1417-68). Celebrated for his elegant Latin verse and exceptional erudition, Basinio was not only a sophisticated writer of elegiac, epic, and didactic poetry, but also a passionate advocate for Greek language and literature in Renaissance Rimini. His work embodies the humanist ideals of his age and became a crucial element of Malatesta’s policies. As a cornerstone of Sigismondo’s courtly propaganda, Basinio’s poetry left an enduring mark on the artistic and literary life of fifteenth-century Italy.     This study explores the significance of hand-drawn life drawing in architectural education within a context increasingly dominated by digital tools. It aims to emphasize the cognitive and transcendental potential of drawing as an immersive and analytical learning practice. The research is based on the course Methods for the Representation and Modelling of the City and Territory at the University of Bologna. Students engage in on-site hand-drawing exercises across urban spaces, focusing on public areas and natural elements. The methodology prioritizes direct observation and includes exercises in proportionality, light and shadow, and the depiction of figures, architecture, and landscapes. Students demonstrated improved technical and perceptual skills. Their drawings showed greater accuracy in representing spatial relationships, proportions, and natural and human forms. They developed stronger visual analysis capabilities, learning to balance detail with thematic hierarchy and improving their overall architectural representation. As a case study based on a single academic course, findings may not be universally generalizable. However, they offer valuable insights into pedagogical approaches combining analog and digital tools. The findings support integrating hand-drawing practices into curricula to cultivate spatial awareness, observational accuracy, and critical thinking. Encouraging on-site drawing fosters a deeper connection between students and the urban environments they study, enhancing sensitivity to social and spatial dynamics. The study reinforces the value of hand-drawing as an irreplaceable tool for critical analysis and spatial understanding. It argues that the manual act of drawing nurtures a deeper connection between observer and subject, making it essential to architectural education even in the digital age

    Disparities in High-Level Reading Skills Between Chinese Migrant and Urban Children: The Roles of Migrant Status, Home Literacy Environment, and Parental Expectations

    How to bridge the gap between reading skills of rural-to-urban migrant children and children with urban permanent residence has long been a big challenge in the field of language and family education research. However, very few studies have focused on high-level reading skills and their association with home literacy environment and parental expectations. To address this issue, using a battery of reading comprehension and meta-comprehension tasks, parental expectation and home literacy environment surveys, this study aimed to explore the potential high-level reading disparities between these two cohorts. Additionally, it examined the influence of migrant status on high-level reading skills, and the potential mediating roles of home literacy environment and parental expectations. A total of 163 rural-to-urban migrant children and 148 urban permanent resident children, along with their parents, were recruited as participants. Data analysis was conducted using independent samples t-tests and Structural Equation Modelling. The results revealed that urban permanent resident children significantly outperformed rural-to-urban migrant group on reading comprehension and comprehension control tasks. In addition, parental expectations and home literacy environment played a mediating role between migrant status and high-level reading skills. Crucially, parental expectations proved detrimental to high-level reading skills if high expectations were held without a supportive home literacy environment. The findings indicate that the association between migrant status and children’s high-level reading skills was fully mediated by home literacy environment and parental expectations. These results yield valuable theoretical and practical implications for language and family education for migrant populations globally

    Cities are one of the frontiers of the ecological transition, not only because they are responsible for the majority of GHG emissions and pollution more generally, but also because they are highly exposed to the effects of climate change, e.g., when it comes to heat waves or floods. Furthermore, in an international context in which several States seem less committed to climate action, cities turn out to be key actors to meeting the goals of the Paris Agreement. The article delves into the topic from the perspective of labour law, exploring three different questions: the balance between the right to health, the right to work, and the protection of the environment in the case of large polluting companies located close to cities; the use of remote working as a climate mitigation and adaptation actions; the use of mayors’ contingent and emergency acts to prevent certain work activities being carried out during extreme climate event

    Este dossiê reúne um conjunto de reflexões semióticas, discursivas e estéticas sobre os modos de enunciação da crise ecológica contemporânea, tentando interpretá-la como uma crise das categorias que medeiam nosso relacionamento com o meio ambiente, colocando-nos em uma profunda incerteza que é, também e sobretudo, uma crise de sentido. A partir de diferentes perspectivas teóricas – da semiótica à análise do discurso, da semiótica plástica aos estudos decoloniais –, os textos aqui apresentados interrogam-se sobre como o Antropoceno, mais do que uma era geológica, constitui-se como um campo de disputas simbólicas, políticas e comunicacionais. O dossiê propõe compreender as formas de sentido, de afeto e de representação que emergem diante das transformações ambientais e de suas reverberações culturais e sociais, apresentando ao leitor e à leitora dos CASA trabalhos que se inserem em cinco importantes eixos temáticos

    Viviamo in un’epoca in cui il progresso tecnologico non è solo una leva per l’innovazione, ma il fulcro della competizione economica e geopolitica. Il calcolo avanzato – nelle sue componenti fondamentali di High Performance Computing (Hpc), big data e la rivoluzione emergente del computer quantistico – non è più soltanto uno strumento per la ricerca, ma un asset strategico che determina il vantaggio competitivo tecnologico, economico e scientifico delle nazioni, dei sistemi industriali e delle imprese. La capacità di generare, analizzare e interpretare grandi volumi di dati con efficienza è ormai un elemento strategico cruciale, così come simulare fenomeni complessi con livelli di precisione senza precedenti sta ridefinendo gli equilibri globali in ambiti chiave quali la salute, l’energia, l’ambiente, la manifattura e la sicurezza. In questo scenario, l’accesso e il controllo su infrastrutture di calcolo avanzato diventano elementi centrali per garantire sovranità tecnologica e autonomia strategica. Chi padroneggia queste tecnologie guida il progresso; chi resta indietro rischia di esserne travolto. Per l’Italia, il rafforzamento della propria posizione in questi settori rappresenta un passaggio cruciale: non solo per ridurre la dipendenza da tecnologie estere, ma anche per valorizzare il proprio capitale scientifico, industriale e umano. Il Piano nazionale di ripresa e resilienza (Pnrr), promosso nel 2021 dal governo Draghi, riconosce esplicitamente il digitale e il supercalcolo come ambiti strategici per la competitività del Paese e prevede investimenti significativi nella creazione di ecosistemi dell’innovazione e infrastrutture digitali avanzate. È in questo contesto che nasce il Centro nazionale di ricerca in High Performance Computing, Big Data e Quantum Computing (Icsc), con l’obiettivo di rafforzare l’autonomia tecnologica dell’Italia, favorire la ricerca di frontiera e sviluppare soluzioni digitali all’avanguardia

    Dipteran parasitoids as biocontrol agents

    Parasitoid flies (Diptera) are often overlooked or considered secondary to parasitoid wasps (Hymenoptera) in biological control programs. This disparity is partly due to the relatively lower number of dipteran parasitoids, as they represent about 20% of all parasitoids, the major- ity of which are hymenopterans. However, numerous studies conducted across various temporal and spatial scales worldwide show that dipteran parasitoids can effectively control certain insect pests. We provide an overview of major examples of successful classical and augmentative bio- logical control initiatives, organized by major dipteran families which include parasitoid species (i.e., Tachinidae, Phoridae and Sarcophagidae) and according to different global regions. In ad- dition, examples of unsuccessful attempts are discussed, along with potential reasons for these failures. These include insufficient number of parasitoids released, unfavorable host transfer, and the absence of alternative hosts, which could sustain parasitoid populations when regular hosts are unavailable in certain seasons. A notable drawback found in our literature review is the frequent misidentification of both parasitoid and host species, along with a general scarcity of laboratory and field studies. Further research is needed to better understand the reproductive strategies of dipteran parasitoids and their host-parasitoid interactions. Challenges associated with the production of dipteran parasitoids have also limited their exploitation as biocontrol agents. Expanding the knowledge of these parasitoids is crucial for improving biocontrol strate- gies, particularly against pests for which dipterans play a key role as natural enemies
