An integrated approach to environmental performance mapping and optimisation in the motorcycle industry

    No full text
Environmental sustainability and climate impact mitigation are increasingly central to industrial strategy, especially in sectors with complex value chains. However, existing approaches to environmental performance are often limited to static reporting, lacking integration with operational and management systems. This research addresses this gap by proposing and validating a structured framework that enables the mapping, quantification, and strategic management of greenhouse gas emissions, particularly Scope 3, along the entire industrial value chain. The framework, developed and piloted in the motorcycle industry, is grounded in international standards (GHG Protocol, ISO 14064) and Life Cycle Thinking principles. It consists of six operational phases and integrates emissions data into Environmental Management Control Systems (EMCS), supported by digital infrastructures. The main contributions of this study include: (i) a replicable and scalable operational tool for environmental performance governance; (ii) integration of Scope 3 emissions into actionable decision-making; and (iii) validation through an industrial case study that demonstrates both critical emission hotspots and quick-win areas for intervention

    No full text
This book adopts a critical, engaged, and interdisciplinary perspective. It seeks to illuminate not only the tensions and resistance encountered, but also the potential levers for transforming the City of Education into a genuine space of shared responsibility, mutual learning, and social justice. Society as a whole is called upon to rethink its notions of success, normality, and the intrinsic value of every individual. True educational inclusion requires a profound cultural shift-one that embraces diversity as a strength rather than a barrier to be overcome. This calls for collective mobilisation and sustained dialogue among institutions, citizens, and educational stakeholders, to build a city where everyone can find their place and thrive. By bringing together the voices of families, experts, practitioners, and field actors, this book advocates for an ethic of coeducation rooted in recognition, equity, and participation. Through this work, we aim to open pathways for reflection and action, so that inclusive emancipation can finally become a shared reality knowing that nothing can be achieved without a collective passion for sharing resources and fostering truly emancipatory education.

    No full text
This chapter explores how multilevel governance frameworks shape the way energy poverty is addressed in climate and energy transition policies across Europe. It highlights the structural nature of energy poverty as a social vulnerability that risks undermining the fairness of the transition, and examines how EU-level strategies, such as the Green Deal and the Clean Energy for All Europeans package, cascade down through national and local plans. Particular attention is paid to the role of Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plans (SECAPs) and the Covenant of Mayors initiative in promoting equity and inclusion. The chapter discusses how the principle of a just transition is translated into planning instruments, funding mechanisms such as the Social Climate Fund, and concrete actions at the municipal level. It critically reflects on the potential and limits of integrating energy poverty considerations into local climate strategies, and offers insights into how participatory approaches, dedicated resources and targeted interventions can contribute to a more inclusive and effective energy transition

    No full text

Exploring sleep quality, depressive symptoms, and quality of life in adults with spinal muscular atrophy

    No full text
Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) is a genetic neuromuscular disorder caused by the mutation of the survival motor neuron 1 (SMN1) gene. Sleep disturbances and their impact on mental health and quality of life in patients with SMA are being understudied, and most of the evidence comes from pediatric SMA patients. We conducted a cross-sectional survey of adult patients with SMA. The participants underwent questionnaires exploring sleep quality with the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), depressive symptoms with the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), and quality of life with the Short-Form Health Survey 36 (SF-36). Fifty patients with SMA were enrolled in the study: 66 % were females with a median age of 41 years. Of them, 60 % had poor sleep quality, and 72 % had depressive symptoms. SMA 2 patients showed higher PSQI and PHQ-9 scores than SMA 3 patients (8 ± 3 vs 6 ± 1, p < 0.001 and 13±5 vs 7 ± 5, p < 0.001). PSQI total score correlated with the PHQ-9 (r = 0.32, p = 0.02), which was higher in patients with respiratory symptoms. Poor sleep is associated with depressive symptoms and respiratory dysfunction in adult SMA patients. Clinicians should consider sleep quality in SMA patients for optimal care; future studies are needed to understand this aspect better

Uncertainty Analysis of Fiber Optic Shape Sensing Under Core Failure

    No full text
Shape sensing with optical fiber sensors is an emerging technology with broad applications across various fields. This study evaluates the metrological performance of shape sensing cables in the presence of fiber core failures, a critical issue in scenarios where cable replacement is impractical due to technological and economic constraints. The impact of core failure is quantified by comparing the uncertainty in key parameters, such as curvature and bending angle, between pristine and damaged cables through Monte Carlo simulations. Results indicate that while core failure degrades performance, shape reconstruction remains achievable. However, the reconstruction becomes sensitive to bending direction due to the loss of core symmetry. Additionally, simulations of how measurement noise propagates into uncertainty in the 3D shape reconstruction are carried out. Analysis of specific shapes, including a circle and a right-handed helix, shows that increasing the number of sensing cores significantly mitigates the adverse effects of core failure. The most notable improvement occurs when the number of cores is increased from four to five. These findings show how shape reconstruction is still possible even in the presence of core damage, and how this changes the behavior of the sensing process

Il Museo di Santo Stefano a Bologna. Catalogo ragionato

    No full text

Cohesion Policy and Institutional Quality Impact: Does Urban–Rural Classification Matter?

    No full text
This study examines the impact of Cohesion Policy, and institutional quality, on regional economic performance across NUTS2 regions in 27 EU member states from 2007 to 2022. Average per capita Cohesion Policy payments are much higher in less developed regions, showing the policy focus on supporting lagging areas. Furthermore, the analysis groups regions as urban, rural and intermediate at the NUTS2 level to reflect key territorial differences and better assess how Cohesion Policy impacts vary across distinct development challenges. However, very low institutional quality in these regions may limit the effectiveness of this financial support. Using a two-step system generalised method of moments approach, the analysis finds that Cohesion Policy transfers have a positive impact on regional economic performance, with notable variation across regional types. The interaction between regional typologies and funding indicates that the policy is particularly effective in less developed, rural and intermediate regions, where structural disadvantages are more pronounced. Institutional quality plays a moderating role in this relationship and emerges as a key factor in enhancing Cohesion Policy effectiveness. To increase the impact of Cohesion Policy in lagging and rural regions, financial support should be complemented with efforts to improve institutional quality
