The corpus Flucht und Emigration nach GroẞBritannien (FEGB) in the Datenbank für Gesprochenes Deutsch
The corpus Flucht und Emigration nach Großbritannien (FEGB) was compiled by Eva-Maria Thüne (University of Bologna, Italy) as part of a research stay (fellowship in Cambridge) in the UK in 2017 and 2018. Most of the language-biographical interviews about the language and cultural identity of the predominantly Jewish emigrants were recorded in Cambridge and in the Greater London area 70 to 80 years after their immigration to the UK. In contrast to other corpora on the experiences of this migrant group (such as the Refugee Voices), these interviews were mainly conducted in German and thus represent one of the last authentic documents of these speakers and eyewitnesses. has grown significantly in recent decades. What is new, however, is the interest not only in translation as an object of philosophical reflection, but also in translated philosophy as a constituent part of the philosophical canon.
This contribution explores the way the topic of translated philosophy can allow us to reshape the narrative of the history of philosophy by identifying new criteria for reading and analysis
Harnessing probiotics and bacteriophages to fight Salmonella and limit the use of antibiotics in broilers: a study in commercial conditions
The poultry industry is facing the growing need to decrease the use of antibiotics to prevent increasing antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Toward this aim, probiotics and bacteriophages have been suggested as an alternative to antibiotics to reducing Salmonella in broilers, which poses risks to food safety and public health. Previous results showed that selected Bacillus probiotics can significantly limit broiler contamination, and anti-Salmonella phages are already available in the US and EU. However, a comprehensive evaluation of the impact of probiotics and phages on commercial poultry farms is still lacking. To this aim, a pre-post study was conducted in a poultry farm experiencing recurrent Salmonella outbreaks, to assess the anti-Salmonella effectiveness of a combined probiotic-phage approach. The study included two complete rearing cycles: T1, conducted in standard conditions and used as a control, and T2, when probiotics and phages were applied. Salmonella monitoring was performed in both the environment and broilers throughout the study periods, showing a significant 90 % decrease in Salmonella presence in T2 compared to T1 cycle (P ≤ 0.001). The decrease was observed at both the environmental and animal (caeca) levels. Notably, the whole broiler caecal microbiome was modified in T2 compared to T1 broilers, evidencing a significant increase in biodiversity accompanied by an earlier appearance of Ruminococcus, Clostridium, and Faecalibacterium genera. In parallel, broiler mortality was reduced by 72 % and broiler weight was increased by 6.4 % in T2 vs. T1 broilers (P ≤ 0.01). The findings indicate that a combined probiotic/phage approach could be a promising strategy to combat the Salmonella burden, while reducing the requirement for antibiotics and improving broiler health
On the Distribution of the Random Risk Under Alternative Loss Functions
In standard statistical decision theory the average performance of a decision is quantified by the risk function, that depends on the parameter of the model. The risk function may be summarized by the Bayes risk, its average with respect to a prior distribution assigned to the parameter. However, the expected value might not be a good representative of risk’s randomness. We here propose to study the whole distribution of the risk function and to report additional summaries such as the median and the mode. For the specific set up of point estimation of a normal variance, we provide closed-form expressions for expected value, cumulative distribution and density functions of the risk under quadratic loss. A simulation-based approach is proposed when closed-form expressions of the distribution and its summaries are not available, for instance when alternative loss functions are considered. Finally, the problem of sample size determination is considered
Black Soldier Fly Meal and Oil: effects of novel feed sources on growth traits and welfare in fattening pigs
Insect-derived products, such as Black Soldier Fly Larvae Meal (BSFLM) and Oil (BSFO), are gaining attention as sustainable alternatives to traditional feed ingredients like soybean meal and fats/oils for pigs. Beyond their nutritional role, these non-conventional feed sources have been attributed nutraceutical properties that might favourably influence the intestinal microbiota.
Due to the growing interest in the relationship between animal nutrition and behaviour through the gut-brain axis, this study aims to evaluate the effects of BSFLM and BSFO not only on growth performance but also on some welfare indicators, specifically behaviour and skin lesions, in finishing pigs. Seventy-two crossbred barrows (initial body weight, BW: 28 kg; 70 days old) were randomly assigned to three dietary treatments: BSFLM, BSFO, and control (CNTR). Diets were isonitrogenous and isoenergetic, with 5% of soybean meal replaced by BSFLM in the BSFLM group, and 2% of conventional fats substituted by BSFO in the BSFO group. Pigs were reared for 204 days, reaching a final BW of 160 kg at approximately nine months of age. Growth performance was evaluated, including average daily gain (ADG) and feed conversion ratio (FCR). Diurnal individual behaviour (7 AM-7 PM) was recorded over four days distributed throughout the trial and
analysed using the scan sampling technique (10 s of observation every 10 min of video). Body and tail lesions were assessed at the end of the trial according to the Welfare Quality® protocol. Growth and behavioural data were analysed using ANOVA, with Dunnett’s tests as a post-hoc, while lesion scores were evaluated using the chi-square test. Significance was set at p<0.05. The BSFLM group exhibited significantly lower BW and higher FCR compared to the control group (p = 0.03), while the BSFO group showed intermediate values. General behaviour was unaffected by dietary treatment, as were body and tail lesion scores. Further investigations will aim to explore the potential effects of BSFLM and BSFO on the intestinal microbiota to better clarify the underlying mechanisms behind the observed outcomes.

The traveling salesman problem with drone based on vehicle mobile parking for customer self-pickup
This paper introduces the traveling salesman problem with drone based on vehicle mobile parking for customer self-pickup (TSPD-VMPCP) in last-mile delivery. A set of vertices is considered, including a depot, parking spots, home delivery (HD) customers that must be visited directly within predefined time windows by truck or drone, and customers with self-pickup (CP) preference that must be served by designated parking spots. Specifically, we allow the drone to perform multi-loop, in which the drone launches and lands at the same location. CP customers are covered using a probability function based on their self-pickup behavior and the truck's stoppage duration. The TSPD-VMPCP aims to minimize the total operating cost. We model the TSPD-VMPCP as a mixed-integer linear program and develop an adaptive large neighborhood search (ALNS) metaheuristic, in addition to a two-phase local search (2P-LS) based on variable neighborhood descent (VND) and matheuristic. We assess the performance of ALNS by comparing it with the Gurobi solver on small instances. The numerical results for medium and large instances highlight the effectiveness of the various components of the ALNS. Furthermore, we provide some managerial insights
The interplay of eco-innovation and stakeholder engagement: Driving sustainability-oriented business practices
This study investigates the interplay between Eco-Innovation (EI) and Stakeholder Engagement (SE) as pivotal enablers of Sustainable Business Model Innovation (SBMI), ultimately gaining improved Sustainability-Oriented Practices (SOPs). Grounded in Stakeholder Theory, this research employs Structural Equation Modeling in LIS-REL, analyzing data from 1076 respondents. The findings reveal that organizations leveraging EI while engaging diverse stakeholder groups—customers, local communities, employees, and suppliers—effectively enhance the deployment of energy and plastic SOPs, with a statistically significant moderating effect for Manufacturing Organizations. The paper contributes to literature by showing that (i) EI precedes and enables SE, and together they underpin SOPs, (ii) clarifying the differentiated roles of stakeholders across types of SOPs – energy and plastic-, (iii) highlights how manufacturing organizational context moderates these dynamics, and (iv) ultimately reframes SBMI as the joint outcome of EI and SE

Imparare a programmare richiede di acquisire conoscenze di tipo sintattico, concettuale e strategico. La comprensione concettuale del comportamento dei programmi durante l’esecuzione è fondamentale per un apprendimento efficace. Questo tipo di conoscenza si basa sulla costruzione di modelli mentali adeguati. Gli insegnanti possono utilizzare una (o più) “notional machine”, strumenti pedagogici che in modo semplificato ma preciso spiegano il funzionamento della macchina che esegue un programma scritto in un certo linguaggio. In assenza di una formazione esplicita, gli studenti sviluppano spontaneamente tali modelli, rischiando però misconcezioni. Per favorire lo sviluppo di modelli mentali accurati, sono cruciali attività di visualizzazione dell’esecuzione del codice, che includono tecniche di tracciamento manuale e strumenti automatici, e attività di lettura e comprensione del codice. L’avvento di strumenti di intelligenza artificiale generativa capaci di scrivere codice rende ancor più urgente che gli studenti padroneggino una robusta conoscenza concettuale: solo così potranno valutare criticamente e comprendere i programmi generati automaticamente, individuandone limiti e potenzialità
