Managing With the “Diverse”: A Gaming Perspective for the Promotion of a More Inclusive and Sustainability-Oriented Culture
This study explores the mechanisms involved in integrating and balancing individual and organizational interests, focusing on how to manage diversity, particularly the ‘diverse'. This chapter traces the elements that define and characterize the “diverse” and the organizational diversity. In particular, this chapter aims to analyze the potential of gaming as an innovative approach not only for greater integration of the diverse in organizations, but also to assess its perspective of integrating this goal in a context of promoting sustainability in the corporate environment. This discussion will then be articulated to the examination of the relationships between gaming and the promotion of the SDG agenda, gaming and the education for an effective communication, gaming to sensitize toward inequalities and disability on the job. Finally, conclusions and research agenda are proposed
Assessing the role of technological districts in regional innovation policies: a network analysis of collaborative R&D projects
As highlighted in systemic approaches to innovation, regions play an increasingly important role in designing and implementing place-based innovation policies. A wide debate has emerged on the limits and validity of different policy models, for example, between “platform” and “district-based” approaches or between a “corporatist” and an “evolutionary” Triple Helix. Within the EU Cohesion Policy framework, a number of technological districts (TDs) have been established since 2005 in the Italian “Convergence” regions to foster competitiveness, innovation, and research industry linkages. TDs have become critical actors in knowledge and technology transfer processes, and a significant amount of funding has been devoted to their development in the National Operational Programme for Research and Competitiveness (PON-R&C). In this work, we use methods drawn from social network analysis to locate TDs within the wider collaboration networks established through the PON-R&C programme. We highlight the specificity of TDs within the general policy and assess their ability to promote organisational and sectoral heterogeneity among project participants. We find that different network architectures coexist under the same policy umbrella and relate this variety to the ideal models identified in the literature
On the role of “tactile value” in cultural consumption: an empirical research in the live music industry
To what extent does the sense of touch matter in cultural consumption? After an extended period of limited social gathering due to COVID-19, it is vital to assess the importance of physical contacts in cultural events. Focused on the live music industry, our paper addresses the following question: How important is the perception and experience of tactile value amongst festival- and concertgoers? For this purpose, we conducted a survey between September and November 2021 and collected 142 exploitable questionnaires. Our goal was to detect structural relationships between latent variables related to touch through a Structural Equation Model. The latter reveals the relative pleasantness of tactile value experienced by our respondents, with effects on their live music experience. In view of the importance of tactile value in live music events, we formulate several recommendations to practitioners and cultural policy in order to further take into account this variable in decision making
Wearable Perovskite Films for On‐Line Monitoring of Radiotracers in Nuclear Medicine
On-line in situ monitoring of radiation emitted by radiotracers during intravenous injection is of crucial importance for the safety of patients and personnel involved in nuclear medicine treatments and analysis. The aim of this work is to assess wearable perovskite ionizing radiation detectors for such application. With this purpose pixelated direct detector based on thin films of 2D layered perovskite PEA2PbBr4 are tested for the monitoring of gamma-rays emitted by 18F radiopharmaceutical under different experimental conditions. The wearable detector is here demonstrated being able to detect in real-time the gamma-rays emitted by annihilation of 18F radiotracer. Its reliability is assessed by 18F half-life measurement with a maximum accuracy deviation within 8%. The detector also successes in its validation for the foreseen application, demonstrating able to monitor in real-time the whole injection process and extravasation event
LYING AND INSINCERITY
What is lying? This entry provides a general overview of scholarly attempts to define lying in terms of necessary and sufficient conditions. First, it addresses the distinction between lying and misleading, considering whether only explicit statements can be lies. The second topic is insincerity, and how it can vary in degrees under conditions of uncertainty. Its final part discusses whether lying requires an intent to deceive and genuine assertoric force
Testing liquidity: A statistical theory based on asset staleness
Using asset staleness as liquidity proxy, two novel test statistics that allow to make inference on the level of liquidity of an asset and on the difference in liquidity between two assets are proposed. The (in-fill) asymptotic properties of the tests are established, and correct procedures to use the tests in multiple testing are provided. A simulation study confirms that the newly defined tests show desirable finite sample properties. Two applications show how the tests can be used for the investor’s asset allocation problem in a high-dimensional setting
Difficulty score for the treatment of multiple gingival recessions with the Modified Coronally Advanced Tunnel technique: a preliminary reliability study
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to propose a new difficulty score for the treatment of multiple gingival recessions (GRs) with Modified Coronally Advanced Tunnel (MCAT), and to test the score's reliability.
Material and methods: A difficulty score was developed for the assessment and grading of 13 relevant anatomical parameters at baseline. Six experienced dental practitioners evaluated existing GRs in three patients. The scale was assessed at two levels: for each single tooth, and seven days later for whole quadrants. Accuracy was estimated using Fleiss' kappa statistics and intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC) to determine the inter- and intra-examiner agreement.
Results: During the evaluation of individual teeth, all parameters exhibited very good to excellent agreement, with Fleiss' kappa statistics ranging between 0.74 and 1. Only recession type, CEJ detectability, and cervical step displayed minor variations. The total MCAT score also produced a minor discrepancy (kappa = 0.78). During the evaluation of whole quadrants, excellent reproducibility was recorded for individual parameters (kappa 0.9-1). Minor variation was observed for recession type and CEJ detectability. Excellent reliability in the total MCAT scores was noted between examiners (kappa = 0.9). Overall intra-examiner agreement values were very high (0.75-1).
Conclusions: The reliability of the proposed difficulty score was assessed between very good and excellent. Some difficulties arose in the evaluation of recession type, CEJ detectability and cervical step
Supply of bioeconomy products
The main objective of this paper is to review key topics in production economics applied to the bioeconomy. First, we address the representation of harvesting of natural resources and illustrate the implications for their optimal use and sustainability. Second, we deal with the topic of increased separability in components of biomass and enlargement of options for products design, and discuss implications for supply and market organisation. We argue that in both cases further research is needed with a view at the new bioeconomy technologies and related organisational forms. Addressing the specificities of the bioeconomy through a practicable technology representation aimed at supporting economic conceptualisation is key for the “distinctivity” and usefulness of this field of research
