Attachment styles epistemic trust and mentalized affectivity in love addiction among emerging adult women
Background: Love addiction (LA) is a maladaptive pattern of romantic involvement, marked by excessive partner preoccupation, loss of control, and relationship persistence despite negative consequences. While insecure attachment styles, epistemic stances (trust, mistrust, and credulity), and mentalized affectivity (identifying, processing, and expressing emotions) have been independently linked to maladaptive relational patterns, their interplay in LA remains underexplored. Methods: This study examined the relationships between LA, attachment styles, epistemic stances, and mentalized affectivity among 590 Italian emerging adult women. Network analysis was used to assess the structure and interconnections among these variables. Results: Attachment anxiety emerged as the most central node, reinforcing its primary role in LA. Epistemic credulity was strongly associated with LA, bridging attachment anxiety and compulsive relational behaviors. Epistemic mistrust showed a moderate association with LA, indicating a conflicting dynamic of dependency and skepticism. Difficulties in emotional processing and identifying emotions were negatively linked to LA, emphasizing the role of mentalized affectivity. Expressing emotions emerged as a key bridging factor integrating attachment, epistemic stances, and mentalized affectivity. Conclusions: Findings highlight the complex interplay among insecure attachment styles, epistemic stances, and mentalized affectivity in shaping LA risk. Addressing maladaptive epistemic stances and enhancing emotional expression could reduce relational dependency and instability, providing valuable directions for clinical interventions targeting young women
Age- and sex-patterns of suicide trends in Europe: 1990–2022 comparative analysis of official WHO mortality data
Background. Understanding how suicide rates vary across age, sex, and geography is essential to designing effective prevention strategies. We examined long-term trends in suicide mortality across European countries over three decades, with a focus on age-specific trajectories. Methods. Using the WHO mortality database, we computed annual sex- and age-specific suicide rates (10–14 to 85+ age groups) from 1990 to 2022, for the most populous European countries, and aggregated rates for the EU-27 and four geographical areas (North, West, South, and Centre-East Europe). We also calculated percentage differences across four time periods (1990–1994, 2000–2004, 2010–2014, and 2020–2022), according to data availability. Results. Suicide rates increased with age, peaking in older individuals (85+) in most countries (e.g., 82.0/100,000 in France in 2020–2022, 77.1/100,000 in Germany among males, in 2020), except in the UK and Northern Europe, where rates peaked at middle age (~22/100,000 at 45–49, in 2020). EU-27 suicide rates in 2020 ranged from 5.5/100,000 (age 15–19) to 58.2/100,000 (85+) among males, and from 2.6 (15–19) to 8.6/100,000 (85+) among females. Male suicide rates were 3 to 8 times higher than female rates across all ages. While overall rates declined since 1990 in most countries, youth suicide increased after 2010 in Western (e.g., +12%, girls 15–19), Southern (+24.5%, girls 15–19), and Northern (+44%, girls 15–19 and 20–24) Europe. Rates among young and middle-aged adults recently rose in Spain, the UK, and Northern Europe, while they declined in Eastern Europe after the 1990s. Conclusions. Despite overall declines, our findings highlight marked heterogeneity in sex- and age-specific trends in suicide mortality across Europe. These patterns call for age-tailored prevention strategies that address evolving psychosocial stressors and structural determinants across the lifespan
Towards the Semi-Automated Population of the Ancient Greek WordNet
This paper explores the employment of LLMs, specifically of Mistral-Nemo, in the semi-automatic population of the Ancient Greek WordNet synsets. Several approaches are investigated: zero-shot, few-shots, and fine-tuning. The results are compared against an English baseline. Zero-shot approach yields the highest accuracy, while fine-tuning leads to the highest number of potential synonyms. Our analysis also reveals that polysemy and PoS play a role in the model’s performance, as the highest scores are registered for polysemous words and for verbs and nouns. The results are encouraging for the application of such approaches in a human-in-the-loop scenario, since human validation still proves crucial in ensuring the accuracy of the results

Unlocking resilience in the face of user aggression: Preliminary psychometric evaluation of the Italian Trauma-related Coping Self-Efficacy Scale among hospital health care professionals
Objective: Aggression toward health care workers is a growing global concern, contributing to psychological distress and posttraumatic stress symptoms. Trauma-related coping self-efficacy (CSE) is critical in mitigating such effects and promoting psychological resilience after traumatic events. However, Italian health care settings lack a validated tool to measure CSE. This study aimed to preliminarily validate an Italian version of the Trauma-Related CSE Scale, adapted to measure health care workers’ responses to verbal and physical aggression from patients or clients. Method: The study involved 1,999 health care professionals who faced verbal aggression (92.6%) or physical aggression (7.4%) from patients or clients. The sample was primarily consisting of female nurses, with an average age of 46.95 years and a mean job tenure of 20 years. Participants were randomly divided into two groups: one for exploratory factor analysis (EFA; n = 996) and another for confirmatory factor analysis (CFA; n = 1,003). The scale’s factorial structure was evaluated through EFA and CFA, with additional analyses for reliability, measurement invariance, and both nomological and concurrent validity. Results: EFA supported a unidimensional six-item structure, which was confirmed by CFA and demonstrated strong reliability. Full residual invariance was observed across health care professionals aged below and above 50 years. Higher CSE was negatively correlated with burnout and posttraumatic stress symptoms while positively associated with job satisfaction and emotional regulatory self-efficacy. Nurses reported lower CSE than doctors. Conclusions: This study offers a context-specific tool for assessing CSE in hospital health care settings, which can aid organizations in implementing practices to strengthen workers’ resilience. Glycemic Control and Implant Stability in Patients with Type II Diabetes: Narrative Review
Advancements in implant design, surface characteristics, and surgical protocols have made implant restorations safe and highly predictable procedures. Bone metabolism plays a central role in the success of implant therapy. Diabetes mellitus is a significant disease impacting bone metabolism, particularly during the initial stages of osseointegration and in long-term survival. Moreover, aging is linked to various systemic conditions, such as diabetes, which increase the susceptibility of the periodontium and teeth to disease, often resulting in tooth loss. Studies on the impact of glycemic control on the success and longevity of implant–prosthetic rehabilitation in diabetic patients highlight a significant association between hyperglycemia and complications in implant therapy. This review identified 18 relevant publications through Medline, and studies were screened against the aim and objectives of the review. A total of five articles were excluded because of lack of focus on the effect of glycemic control on dental implants. Diabetic patients with poorly controlled blood glucose levels may face a heightened risk of developing implant complications. Effective glycemic control plays a critical role in the long-term success of dental implants in these individuals. Marginal bone loss (MBL) is a critical indicator of implant health and success. Clinical studies generally show greater MBL in diabetic patients compared to non-diabetic individuals. Higher Gaussian maps for special classes of curves
The main task of the thesis is the computation of the rank of higher Gaussian maps for special classes of smooth projective curves.
First, we study even order higher Gaussian maps of the canonical bundle on hyperelliptic curves and we determine their rank, giving explicit descriptions of their kernels. Then we use this descriptions to investigate the hyperelliptic Torelli map and its second fundamental form. We study isotropic subspaces of the tangent space to the moduli space of hyperelliptic curves of genus g at a point [C], with respect to its second fundamental form. In particular, for any Weierstrass point p of the curve C, we construct a space generated by higher Schiffer variations at p, such that the only isotropic tangent direction is the standard Schiffer variation at the Weierstrass point p.
In a similar way as in the hyperelliptic case, we study even order Gaussian maps on particular trigonal curves, namely some specific 3:1 cyclic covers of the projective line. We manage to compute a lower bound for the rank of the even order Gaussian maps on these curves, and hence on the general trigonal curve. Then we use this computations to show the non existence of extra asymptotic direction for these kinds of trigonal curves in suitable spaces.
We mention that in both hyperelliptic and trigonal case, the techniques that we use are based on explicit computations.
Using very different techniques, such as cohomological tools, we then study higher Gaussian (or Wahl) maps for the canonical bundle of certain smooth projective curves. More precisely, we determine the rank of higher Gaussian maps of the canonical bundle for plane curves and for curves contained in a sufficiently ample line bundle on an Enriques surface. For plane curves, we find out that these maps are never surjective, and that the corank is independent of the degree of the curve. For curves on Enriques surfaces we find sufficient conditions for their surjectivity
Operation and performance of the CMS silicon strip tracker with proton-proton collisions at the CERN LHC
Salient aspects of the commissioning, calibration, and performance of the CMS silicon strip tracker are discussed, drawing on experience during operation with proton-proton collisions delivered by the CERN LHC. The data were obtained with a variety of luminosities. The operating temperature of the strip tracker was changed several times during this period and results are shown as a function of temperature in several cases. Details of the system performance are presented, including occupancy, signal-to-noise ratio, Lorentz angle, and single-hit spatial resolution. Saturation effects in the APV25 readout chip preamplifier observed during early Run 2 are presented, showing the effect on various observables and the subsequent remedy. Studies of radiation effects on the strip tracker are presented both for the optical readout links and the silicon sensors. The observed effects are compared to simulation, where available, and they generally agree well with expectations
