Crisis communication on LinkedIn: how CEO contents on COVID-19 affect SME market outcomes.
This paper investigates how CEO communication on LinkedIn related to COVID-19 content
influenced the stock market performance during the pandemic period. Prior research highlights the
importance of executive visibility and media presence in enhancing firm recognition, investor
interest, and financial outcomes. Building on this foundation, this paper analyses the contents
published on LinkedIn by CEOs from 142 listed small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs),
focusing on the content they shared during the crisis period. Our results indicate that firms led by
CEOs with higher posting activity on pandemic-related contents, tend to perform better in the
market. More in dept, the study provides a qualitative text analysis of LinkedIn posts, emphasizing
content explicitly related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The contribution and the novelty of this
research lie in this focus: by analysing crisis-related keywords and themes, the paper offers insights
into how CEOs addressed uncertainty, demonstrated leadership, and engaged investors during a
period of systemic disruption by sharing specific content types. These findings position executive
communication, particularly during negative events, as a strategic tool with potential market
impact. The study offers theoretical and practical implications for understanding CEO behaviour,
digital identity management, and investor relations in times of crisis
Locating large-scale energy storage: spillover effects, carbon emissions, and balancing costs across Italy
Reaching net zero requires substantial large-scale energy storage systems (LESS) deployment. This strategy poses key challenges, including understanding how different LESS technologies compare in terms of both economic benefits and environmental impact, as well as analysing the complex interactions within and between markets when storage is deployed. To help shed light on these aspects, we investigate how LESS location, rated power, duration, and technology can affect welfare and carbon emissions in the Italian electricity system by modelling the day-ahead and the ancillary services markets. We considered lithium-ion batteries, pumped-storage hydro, and vanadium redox flow batteries. The results show that deploying LESS is always beneficial in the day-ahead market, but ancillary services costs can increase due to spillover effects because these markets run sequentially. Lithium-ion is the technology that yields the best social welfare increase. Location, rated power, and duration significantly impact carbon emissions, with changes ranging from −260 kgCO2 to 190 kgCO2 per MWh traded. These results suggest that LESS can help increase welfare and induce unintended consequences, such as spillovers across markets with a mixed effect on emissions
The conundrum of judicial accountability and independence in military courts from a comparative perspective
This work analyzes independence and accountability in the specific context of military jurisdiction. It takes Italy as a case-study and places it in the comparative scenario, elaborating some models through the study of how the same issue is regulated in other countries belonging to both the civil law and the common law tradition. In its conclusion, the chapter examines whether and how independence, impartiality and accountability are guaranteed in practice in the jurisdictions at stake as far as military courts are concerned
I droni umanitari nei contesti di emergenza: un’analisi comparata a partire dal caso ucraino
Humanitarian drones in emergency contexts: the Ukrainian case from a comparative perspective – The article explores the use of new technologies in current war contexts, focusing on the so-called humanitarian drones in the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Through the analysis of this recent case study from a comparative perspective, the paper highlights not only the opportunities offered by humanitarian drones in terms of the protection of rights, but also the potential risks in terms of data protection and privacy, compliance with the principles of transparency and accountability in decision-making processes characterised by a close public-private partnership
Prevention of incisional hernia with biosynthetic mesh at the site of temporary ileostomy closure (PRINCESS Study): preliminary results
Purpose Incisional hernia after ileostomy closure is a complication that adversely affects patient outcomes, quality of life
(QoL), healthcare resources, and related costs. Prophylactic mesh reinforcement, both biological and synthetic, has been
shown to be safe and effective in preventing stoma site incisional hernia (SSIH). This study aimed to evaluate the use of a
slowly absorbable biosynthetic mesh at the site of temporary ileostomy closure to prevent SSIH.
Methods This prospective, single-arm observational study was conducted across 14 Italian hospitals. Patients undergoing
ileostomy reversal with retromuscular placement of a poly-4-hydroxybutyrate (PhasixTM) mesh were enrolled. Endpoints
included the incidence of radiologically and clinically detected SSIH at 1-year, postoperative morbidity, wound complications, and QoL assessed using the EuroQoL 5D-5 L and Carolinas Comfort Scale (CCS) questionnaires.
Results A total of 115 patients completed at least 1 year of follow-up and were included in the analysis. Seromas was the
most frequent complication (8.6%). Superficial and deep SSIs occurred in 6% and 1.7% of patients, respectively. Three
complications required intervention (2.6%), including one mesh removal. The 1-year SSIH rate was 1.7%, with a median
follow-up of 477 d (range: 263–880). Considering the 55 patients (47.8%) who completed 2-year follow-up, the cumulative
SSIH rate was 4.3%. EuroQoL 5D-5 L and CCS scores demonstrated progressive improvement in QoL and symptom reduction over time (p<0.0001).
Conclusion These preliminary findings suggest that prophylactic placement of a slowly absorbable biosynthetic mesh (PhasixTM) is safe and effective for SSIH prevention following ileostomy closure, without negatively impacting the patient’s
QoL. The use of biosynthetic meshes may be considered a valid alternative to biological or synthetic meshes in this setting
Crisi dell’ordine economico mondiale: problemi e prospettive
Migrant deaths at borders and immigration attitudes: evidence from the 2013 Lampedusa shipwreck
Does exposure to migrant death alter immigration-related public opinion? Scholarship has extensively demonstrated the impact of events on attitudes toward immigrants and immigration. In doing so, however, focus has almost exclusively been placed on events that pose a direct threat to ingroup members. The authors extend this line of research to further comprehend the formative basis of the said attitudes by focusing on events that uncover the threats outgroup members are subjected to, such as migrant shipwrecks. The authors examine one of the deadliest migrant shipwrecks that have occurred in the Mediterranean Sea in recent history, the so-called 2013 Lampedusa shipwreck, in which at least 368 migrants lost their lives. Using Italian data from the European Social Survey (round 6), the authors show that in the aftermath of the event, attitudes toward immigration changed, and Italians became more willing to adopt a less restrictive immigration policy. However, attitudes toward immigrants remained unchanged: the levels of perceived ethnic threat were not altered. These findings not only expand on the prevailing understanding of the effect of salient migration events on immigration-related attitudes but also highlight the divergent formative basis of these attitudes
Securing venture capital for sustainability-driven ventures: an analysis of funding delay
This study explores the funding delays faced by Sustainability-Driven (SD) ventures when seeking investment from Venture Capitalists (VCs). SD ventures have a dual mission, targeting both economic returns and non-economic sustainability-oriented goals. We argue that this dual mission complicates VCs’ evaluation of these ventures’ and sets the stage for possible agency conflicts. Therefore, VCs might postpone investment in SD ventures to reduce uncertainty and mitigate these conflicts. Utilizing the global PitchBook dataset for empirical analysis, we find evidence that SD ventures experience delays in obtaining Venture Capital (VC) funding. Nevertheless, our research identifies specific investor- and market-level factors that can lessen these delays. Our results provide insights for SD ventures aiming to expedite VC funding during crucial early stages of their development
