This is due to the sectors reliance on fossil fuels for fuel and the emissions of greenhouse gases. There has been huge concern in the latter years for sustainability in the industry. This dissertation presents an in-depth analysis of the viability of sustainability in the shipping industry with a concentration on three keys areas. I will delve into innovations, policy initiatives and operational practices with the aim to reduce the impact this industry has on sustainability environmentally, socially, and economically. Various sustainability measures will be discussed that have been implemented in the shipping industry to date. These will include the proposal of technological advancements such as alternative fuels and improved vessel designs. Furthermore, international regulations will be assessed. These include the International Maritime Organisations Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI), the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL), Monitoring Reporting and Verification (MRV) and International Maritime Organisation Data Collection System (IMO DCS). Such operational practices such as slow steaming will be examined in reducing fuel consumption. Secondly, this analysis will address the importance of seafarer sustainability. The crew work under demanding conditions to ensure smooth operations of vessels across the globe. However, the well-being and rights of the men and women onboard have been overlooked in the past. This research will highlight the significance of the introduction of the Maritime Labour Convention in 2006. This further highlights the importance of fair and ethical employment practices, mental health and demanding physically challenges. Not to mention the impact of being so far away from home for prolonged periods of time. Lastly, this research will highlight potential economic challenges and barriers of implementing sustainability into the shipping industry. It acknowledges the high costs companies must invest with adopting new technologies with limited infrastructure. It shows the need for collaboration of stakeholders alike. Can companies truly be sustainable and profitable with today’s regulatory pressures to do so? Overall, this research aims to provide a comprehensive review of the viability of sustainability in the shipping industry. (2017, p. 86-91). emphasize the weak state of pharmaceutical regulation in Nigeria, characterized by irregular inspections, inadequate enforcement, widespread violations, and resultant negative health outcomes. To structure the research process, the study adopts the Research Onion framework proposed by Saunders, Lewis, and Thornhill in 2009. The interpretivist research philosophy plays a central role in this dissertation's context. Employing a deductive research approach, the study aims to collect data and formulate a theory based on the obtained results Saunders et al. (2019, p. 207). A case study strategy is employed to gain in-depth understanding of the challenges, particularly in the regulatory and quality aspects, faced by the two selected medical device manufacturing firms and the regulatory authorities that restrict their performance. The research design involves a mono-method approach for data collection. The gathered data is then analyzed thematically, contributing to the overall research findings. The study reveals significant weaknesses in the current regulatory framework for medical devices, including poor implementation of guidelines, lengthy processing times, and inadequate post-marketing surveillance. Regarding challenges related to the manufacturing of high-quality medical devices, the study identifies the lack of raw materials and the unavailability of custom-made machine parts as key factors affecting the production capabilities of medical device manufacturing firms in Nigeria. Insufficient funding, policy inconsistencies, regulatory duplication, and high inspection costs are identified as factors contributing to the ineffectiveness of medical device regulation and registration. The integration of Electronic Prescription Services (EPS) represents a significant advancement in the healthcare sector, designed to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of prescription management. By enabling the electronic transmission of prescriptions from healthcare providers to pharmacies, EPS aims to reduce the errors associated with traditional paper-based prescriptions and streamline pharmacy operations. Despite its potential benefits, the implementation of EPS presents various challenges, including technical integration and the need for comprehensive staff training. This research investigates the impact of Electronic Prescription Services (EPS) on community pharmacies in Dublin, Ireland, examining areas such as prescription accuracy, workflow efficiency, pharmacist satisfaction, and implementation challenges. EPS, an advancement in healthcare, facilitates the electronic transmission of prescriptions from healthcare providers to pharmacies, aiming to enhance patient safety, streamline operations, and reduce errors compared to traditional paper prescriptions. Despite EPS’s potential benefits, including improved prescription accuracy and operational efficiency, community pharmacies face challenges such as technical integration issues and the need for effective staff training. This study employs a quantitative methodology, using surveys distributed to pharmacists and pharmacy staff, to evaluate these impacts comprehensively. Adopting a pragmatic research philosophy and an inductive approach, the study collects and analyzes primary data to understand the operational changes brought about by EPS. Data analysis, performed using JASP software, involved descriptive and inferential statistical techniques, including Chi-square and Kendall’s Tau tests, to assess relationships between EPS implementation and various performance metrics. The findings reveal significant associations: improved communication with prescribers correlates moderately with reduced prescription errors, and overall pharmacist satisfaction is strongly associated with the ease of EPS use and improvements in medication inventory management. Workflow efficiency showed notable improvements in prescription processing time, daily volume, patient waiting time, and counselling ability, though increased processing time was linked to reduced efficiency. Confidence in EPS is high, particularly regarding its role in identifying potential medication interactions. The study concludes that EPS positively impacts several facets of pharmacy operations, enhancing prescription accuracy, workflow efficiency, and pharmacist satisfaction, while increasing confidence in the system. Nonetheless, further attention is needed to address training and technical challenges associated with EPS implementation
