Robotica educativa e cultura dell’innovazione: percorsi scolastici per le aree interne
No full textIl saggio analizza come robotica educativa e coding possano diventare leve di innovazione didattica e coesione sociale nelle aree interne. Dopo aver inquadrato il tema nel percorso normativo (PNSD, SNAI, PNRR) e nel dibattito sulle competenze per il XXI secolo, viene proposta una cornice pedagogica costruttivista/costruzionista e modelli di progettazione iterativa (Spiral Model, Engineering Design Process, Kindergarten Approach di Resnick), con focus sul ruolo del debugging e sul valore formativo dell’errore. Sono presentate pratiche “plugged” e “unplugged” e tre approcci metodologici: IDeAL (Iterative Design for Active Learning), tinkering e Novel Engineering, che integrano artefatti materiali, programmazione a blocchi e narrazioni letterarie per sviluppare pensiero computazionale, problem solving, creatività e collaborazione. Due sperimentazioni, una in scuola primaria (Novel Engineering con LEGO® WeDo, prototipazione e riscrittura creativa) e una in secondaria di I grado (tinkering e robotica LEGO® Mindstorms, sfide progressive e valutazione autentica), evidenziano miglioramenti nelle competenze digitali e trasversali, nell’inclusione e nella motivazione. Il contributo conclude che robotica e coding, se sostenuti da formazione docenti, risorse e infrastrutture adeguate, possono trasformare la scuola delle aree interne in presidio culturale e laboratorio di innovazione sociale, contribuendo a ridurre i divari territoriali
Vita scolastica e riflessione sull’istruzione nell’opera di Piero Calamandrei
No full textThe essay explores several snapshots of school life, which emerge from the correspondence between Piero Calamandrei and his future wife, Ada Cocci, dating from 1908 to 1915, as well as from a few short stories later included in La burla di Primavera con altre fiabe, e prose sparse, edited by Giorgio Luti (Palermo, Sellerio, 1987). Particular attention is also paid to recollections of fragments of parental education provided by Calamandrei’s grandfather, Agostino, in Piero’s Inventario della casa di campagna, published in 1941 by Le Monnier. The second part of the essay analyzes some of Calamandrei’s speeches concerning political interference in scholastic life and the role of the school as a “organo costituzionale.” Palumbo focuses in particular on the speech Difendiamo la scuola democratica, delivered at the Third Congress of the Association for the Defense of the National School, held in Rome on February 11, 1950.

republished in the volume Per la scuola (Sellerio, 2008), which brings together
three speeches by Calamandrei, with an introduction by Tullio De Mauro and a historical-bibliographic note by Silvia Calamandre
Bicaval TricValve Implantation in Patients With Severe Tricuspid Regurgitation
No full textBackground: Caval valve implantation is currently the only alternative for patients with severe tricuspid regurgitation (TR) who are deemed unsuitable candidates for transcatheter orthotopic therapies. Objectives: The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy and safety of TricValve system at 1-year follow-up. Methods: TricBicaval registry is a multicenter registry that retrospectively enrolled all consecutive patients with severe TR treated with TricValve system. Results: Of 204 patients included, 71.1% had renal insufficiency, 87.3% had massive or torrential TR, and 82.4% had TRI-SCOREs of ≥4 points. Intraprocedural success was 96.1%, and clinical success at 30 days was 83%. Functional class significantly improved with 19.8% of patients in NYHA functional class I or II at baseline vs 81.5% (P < 0.001) after a median follow-up period of 8.8 months (Q1-Q3: 1.5-12.3 months). A significant pressure reduction in the inferior vena cava was observed, alongside a marked decrease in signs of right heart failure. Heart failure hospitalizations significantly decreased during follow-up compared with the year preimplantation (60.8 [95% CI: 50.5-73.1] vs 26.9 [95% CI: 19.1-37.8] events per 100 patient-years; P < 0.001). At 1 year, the major adverse event rate was 19.1%, and mortality increased with increasing TRI-SCORE (0-3 points, 6.7% [95% CI: 1.7%-24.6%]; 4 or 5 points, 23.4% [95% CI: 14.4%-36.7%]; ≥6 points, 28.8% [95% CI: 19.8%-40.8%], log-rank P = 0.020). Conclusions: In this highly comorbid population with severe TR, caval valve implantation using the TricValve system led to significant 1-year clinical improvement, with mortality rates aligned with baseline TRI-SCORE
Unsupervised machine learning to explore inflammation following cardiopulmonary bypass
No full text: IntroductionCardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) often induces systemic inflammatory reaction syndrome (SIRS), affecting postoperative outcome. We aimed to explore adaptive/maladaptive inflammation using unsupervised machine learning.MethodsWe conducted a post hoc analysis of 1908 adult patients who underwent elective cardiac surgery with CPB between June 2016 and June 2020 at a single institution. Patients were assessed for SIRS 12 hours post-surgery and clustered using the partitioning around medoids (PAM) algorithm based on Gower distance. The influence of SIRS on a composite outcome comprising death, stroke/TIA, renal replacement therapy, reoperation for bleeding, mechanical circulatory support, and ICU stay >96 hours was analyzed via multivariable logistic regression.ResultsSIRS occurred in 28.7% of patients (median age 69 years; 68.7% male). Clustering revealed two subgroups: maladaptive SIRS (52.9%) with higher preoperative risk and worse outcomes, and adaptive SIRS (47.1%) with favorable outcomes. Maladaptive SIRS patients had higher 30-day mortality (21.7% vs 1.6%, p < .001). Adaptive SIRS patients had outcomes similar to SIRS-negative controls. In selected clusters, SIRS was independently associated with a lower risk of the composite outcome (OR 0.44; 95% CI 0.26-0.74, p = .002).ConclusionUnsupervised machine learning effectively identifies adaptive and maladaptive SIRS in cardiac surgery patients, providing a basis for personalized postoperative care. Several clinical and procedural factors associated with maladaptive SIRS may be modifiable, supporting future precision strategies to reduce harmful inflammation after cardiac surgery
Low Phosphatidylserine+ Cells Within the CD34+/CD45dim/CD117(c-kit)+ Subpopulation Are Associated with Poor Outcomes in Metastatic Colorectal Cancer
No full textBackground: Colorectal cancer is among the most prevalent causes of tumor-related deaths worldwide. Antiangiogenic therapy represents a cornerstone of metastatic CRC treatment, and biomarkers are advocated for the optimization of this therapeutic strategy. Methods: In this observational prospective study, we employed an optimized flow cytometry protocol to investigate the prognostic and predictive potential of blood circulating endothelial cells (CECs), circulating endothelial progenitor cells (CEPCs), and related subsets in a cohort of patients with metastatic colorectal cancer (n = 40). Results: Computational FC analysis revealed a differential enrichment of blood cell clusters with a CD34+/CD45dim/CD117(c-kit)+ phenotype between responders and non-responders both to antiangiogenic and non-antiangiogenic treatments. Intriguingly, our results show that a high percentage of annexin V-negative cells in a putative circulating progenitor population with a CD34+/CD45dim/CD117+ phenotype was correlated with a reduced response to systemic anticancer treatments (p = 0.015) and worse overall survival (log-rank p = 0.03). In addition, we observed increased blood concentrations of CD34+/CD45dim/CD117+/annexin V- cells in patients with a higher number of metastatic sites (p = 0.03). Conclusions: Overall, these findings hold promise for the identification of novel circulating biomarkers to develop more personalized treatment approaches in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer

No full textIl saggio spiega la funzione delle emozioni nell’apprendimento prescolastico e scolastico, esaminando il racconto della fanciullezza nel libro I delle Confessioni di Agostino (1, 8, 13-1, 20, 31). Le pagine iniziali ripercorrono la storia degli studi, per poi soffermarsi sui dati oggettivi che emergono dalla narrazione, in particolare sui realia del mondo scolastico e sulle fasi del percorso di istruzione. Nella sezione centrale l’analisi della struttura testuale mostra gli elementi di continuità e di discontinuità nell’apprendimento, considerando il rapporto che c’è tra la libera curiositas e la meticulosa necessitas e in questo modo operando un graduale passaggio dagli aspetti oggettivi a quelli soggettivi. Le pagine seguenti approfondiscono il tema delle emozioni, ponendo a confronto due situazioni antitetiche: per un verso la letizia che contraddistingue l’apprendimento della parola; per altro verso la paura che caratterizza invece l’istruzione nelle lettere.The essay explains the role of emotions in preschool and school education, by analyzing the childhood story in book I of Augustine’s Confessions (1, 8, 13-1, 20, 31). The opening pages retrace the history of studies and then focus on the objective data that emerge from the narrative, particularly the reality of school life and the stages of education. In the central section, the analysis of the textual structure shows the aspects of continuity and discontinuity in learning, considering the relationship between libera curiositas and meticulosa necessitas, thus gradually moving from objective to subjective features. The following pages explore the topic of emotions by comparing two opposing situations: on the one hand the joy that is characteristic of word learning; on the other hand the fear that is characteristic of education in letters
