Evaluating the Inflammatory Protein Ratio (IPR) as an Inflammation-Based Biomarker for Cancer Diagnosis
Chronic inflammation is increasingly recognized as a key driver of tumorigenesis, affecting both the tumor microenvironment and host response. In this context, circulating inflammatory proteins may provide valuable insights into cancer activity. This study evaluated the diagnostic performance of the inflammatory protein ratio (IPR), a composite index derived from serum protein electrophoresis, in detecting active cancer among hospitalized patients. We retrospectively analyzed clinical and laboratory data from 312 adult patients admitted to the Internal Medicine and Aging Department at Policlinico Foggia, Italy, between November 2023 and July 2024. Patients were stratified according to the presence of active cancer, defined by NICE criteria. The diagnostic accuracy of the IPR was compared with that of conventional inflammatory markers, including C-reactive protein (CRP) and the neutrophil–lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet–lymphocyte ratio (PLR), monocyte–lymphocyte ratio (MLR), and systemic immune–inflammation index (SII). The IPR showed the highest diagnostic performance, with a sensitivity of 88.1%, a specificity of 75.2%, and an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) of 0.868. Its negative predictive value reached 97.6%, underscoring its potential as a rule-out tool for malignancy in hospitalized patients. These findings support the IPR as a promising and cost-effective inflammation-based biomarker for cancer detection, warranting further validation in prospective and molecularly characterized cohorts
Come applicazione
This thesis analyzes the incorporation of memorialization processes as a fifth
autonomous pillar within the transitional justice model. The central hypothesis holds
that these processes, when deliberately promoted by the State in response to
serious human rights violations, constitute a legally formalizable dimension, distinct
from the traditional pillars of truth, justice, reparation, and guarantees of non-
repetition. Using a theoretical and normative methodology, the research conceptually
distinguishes between memory, memorialization, memorialization processes, and
sites of memory, and identifies the legal foundations that support the integration of
these processes as a stable component of the transitional model. The analysis is
based on normative sources of international law and specialized legal scholarship.
As an application of the proposed framework, the study examines the case of Italy’s
Years of Lead to assess how disputes over the past have been managed and to what
extent this experience offers a basis for formalizing public memory policies in
democratic contexts without a political transition. The thesis concludes that the
integration of memorialization processes as an autonomous pillar reinforces the
structural dimension of transitional justice and contributes to the consolidation of a
theoretical framework for the institutional management of memory in societies
dealing with legacies of violence.

When Silence Speaks. Negotiating Memory and Inter-generational Relationships in Leftist Families in Turkey
Drawing on fieldwork in Istanbul, this article explores the practices of silencing characterizing relationships between parents and children in Turkish leftist families affected by state violence in the wake of the 1980 coup. It shows how silence and secrecy can be understood as a set of embodied experiences and reflective actions that are intersubjective and which convey emotions, values, and a tacit knowledge of the state. Moving beyond the trauma paradigm, such practices are interpreted as a field of meaning-making through which political cultures, generational boundaries, and collective representations are produced and negotiated. Likewise, former revolutionaries’ habit of silencing personal memories in favor of we-centered narratives is seen not as a sign of traumatic unspeakability or political oppression, but as a collective process of intimate selving through which they reconstruct their revolutionary moral economy in the present
Hyperspectral Imaging Techniques on Optical Sorter for Pea Gluten-free
Celiac disease (CD) is a very widespread chronic autoimmune disease that causes the body's immune reaction to the intake of gluten: a protein complex present in many cereals, such as barley, wheat and rye. Gluten free products are increasingly in demand on the market, developing more and more interest. The main problem encountered for the certification of a gluten free product is the sorting of the product in order to guarantee the elimination of 100% of cereal contaminants. The present study has developed and perfected the use of optical systems based on the hyperspectral image analysis technique in order to be able to uniquely identify some spectral characteristics of the products to be analysed, statistically classifying them and separating them from contaminating products. The hyperspectral images were created with VIS (Visible) and NIR (Neari infrared) cameras in opposite positions to acquire the reflected radiation on both side of the product.A statistical classifier was created in order to obtain 100% classification of contaminants and the tests carried out with an industrial plant on pea confirmed the result of having eliminated 100% of contaminants with a non-influential product waste (less than 20%)

Preliminary Study on the Antifungal Potential of Selected Plants as Botanical Fungicides Against Main Fungal Phytopathogens
Fungal diseases represent relevant constraints on global agricultural productivity, causing severe yield losses and deterioration of crop quality. The extensive use of chemical fungicides has produced environmental and health concerns due to their persistence, bioaccumulation, toxicity, and the increasing development of resistant fungal strains. To promote sustainable plant protection strategies, this study aimed to evaluate natural alternative products derived from botanical sources and agro-industrial wastes. Eighteen putative inhibiting products (PIPs), selected based on their availability as spontaneous plants or agro-industrial wastes, together with a commercial resistance inducer, were screened in in vitro assays against a collection of 31 phytopathogenic fungi. The inhibitory activity (IA) from the PIPs was evaluated, and statistical analyses were performed to identify the best performer. Several PIPs showed significant inhibitory activity against several fungal species, while others promoted fungal growth, highlighting the dual nature of the tested PIPs as potential bio-fungicides and growth-promoting agents for beneficial fungi. These findings highlight the value of plant-derived metabolites and agricultural waste valorization as promising sources for the development of sustainable botanical fungicides as well as support the transition toward eco-friendly crop protection strategies aligned with the European Green Deal objectives
MCMC Approach for Stock Price Forecasting Using an Italian-BERT Model
Sentiment Analysis is a task of Natural Language Processing (NLP) whose main goal is to classify sentences (or entire texts) to obtain a score about their polarity: positive, negative, or neutral. Recently, a Transformer-based architecture, AlBERTino [5], has been introduced to determine a sentiment score in the financial sector through a specialized corpus of sentences. Here, the AlBERTino model can be used to improve stock forecasting, determining the sentiment score associated with events in the market and using a Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) method to determine a new series of bounded drift and volatility values based on this score. With these new values obtained through Bayesian inference, generating a series of paths through a Monte Carlo method to predict a polarity-driven future price is possible
